Alcohol

For the guys who like to have a few beers on the weekend.

While training for size, do you drink on the weekend? How much?
Does it drastically effect your gains?

I realize alcohol is bad, I realize most people make the smart choice of not drinking. However, I like to have a little fun on Saturdays and have some drinks.

Any thoughts…

As long as you’re not getting wrecked, don’t worry about it.

I have 4-5 drinks on a weekend, sometimes more but I don’t get drunk all that often.

Yeah that’s kind of where I’m at. Although it’s been 7 weeks of NO drinks and frankly hanging out with my friends is starting to make me want to bend the rules a bit.

Have a couple of drinks.

I can’t handle heavy drinking anymore. I get so hung over now it’s not even funny.

That being said, I’ve probably drank more this weekend than I have in the 6 months. My birthday was on Friday and I was drinking Caiparinias from about 2pm to 2am. Training on Monday might be a little…ugly.

As long as you aren’t getting hammered, I don’t see a problem with casual drinking on the weekends. It’s probably not ideal, but keeping away from having fun isn’t really ideal either.

I avoided alcohol in the past because of my physique dreams. But I am still in my teens and realize these are the times of my life. I hate going to a party and being the only one sober. That doesn’t mean I still don’t take my diet and training seriously, it just means that I’m balancing fun with my goals.

Oh and also I down some food and BCAA’s before bed…and maybe some water.

Why is that? being the sober one out just lets you have more fun at other people’s expense.

I feel ashamed to say that for the past 6 months I have gotten trashed two nights a week. This summer I have been drinking on the verge of 9-10 beers four times a week.

I have also had the greatest size and strength gains ever this year, but I’m sure if I put a halt on my drinking I’d be further along. Social pressures women, and ultimately myself are at fault.

6 months progress

arms
16.25" up to 17"
waist
38 now 36.5
chest
43 now 45
weight
211 peak 221 now 216 as i’m cutting
height
6’2"

To each his own.

You say you are cutting so don’t touch it.

Since you likely have made your mind up, drink vodka.

Avoid fat and carbs when you have alcohol in your system because the body will use the alcohol for energy and store what it doesn’t need.

I see nothing wrong with taking BCAA’s or a protein shake before you go to sleep. But dring more water than you normally would.

I also drink two nights a week (one night being a complete shit show) and the other more moderate. It’s my last year in college and its the summer, so it’s hard not to.

Since drinks in the city are relatively expensive ($15~) I pregame on the train with liquor, so it’s not as bad as drinking 6 beers or so. I am trying to cut right now and my diet throughout the week is solid, minus the nights I drink, but I can clearly see it slows down my progress.

I’ve went 2 weeks without drinking and I saw drastic changes to my physique but honestly, I’d rather have my fun at 21. I feel that it’s possible to balance both out, you just need to stay on a strict diet and not deviate from it, even when drunk (which can be kinda tricky).

Usually before bed cottage cheese and a protein shake with some BCAA’s will do the job (not to mention a multivitamin and two ibuprofins

I’m glad other people are in the same boat as me.

Oh I’m definitely not drinking for about a month. This is my 7th week cutting and my goal is a 33" waist. I’m at a 34.5 right now. So…once I hit my goals it’s all about maintaining. I plan on bulking all winter expecting to put about 1/8 to 1/2 inch every 4 weeks on waist(being realistic it’s gonna happen) while gaining mass, then I’ll cut again next Feb.

Who know’s I may be afraid of alcohol at that point! ha

I have a few.

Would people buy them if McDonalds called them “sad” meals?

Why do the hottest chicks do porn? If I were that hot, I would just find a sugar daddy.

What is the best way to introduce myself to the girl in the apartment complex next door? I rarely see her, and when I do it is usually a glimpse of her walking to her apartment from my window. I mean, I can’t just sit outside her apartment and wait for her can I? It is frustrating, if only I could bump into her somewhere.

Spike TV sucks.

If you really wanted to you can go to a party and not drink, I do it all the time, I still have fun there and dont end up with a hangover the next morning when I have to train.

  • No headaches has been nice. And it certainly has been good having mornings back. Waking up at 6a.m feeling refreshed and ready to go.

Not wishing I were dead or wondering why my GF is so pissed off

And I think they should call them “Sad Meals”

This year i’ve pretty much dropped drinking, progressing from getting trashed once a week with a the odd beer every couple of days(no more than 2 beers)…

I had to stop drinking for about a month because i was having issues with my stomach, then i had a few weeks where i went out but struggled to stomach more than a couple of beers, then a proceeded to have the previous 5 weeks without any alcohol up until last saturday night…i had 7 beers all up, woke up yesterday with a headache and was pretty much a slug all day…i started my cut today so no alcohol until i reach my physique goals.

my experience with not drinking and going to parties(seems like everyone is turning 21 at the moment) most people seem to think by me choosing not to drink that i think im too good for alcohol and better than others…

Now I don’t knock others for drinking generally when asked why i’m not drinking i usually just reply with ‘i cant be bothered dealing with a hangover tomorrow and refer to my stomach issues’…

I have realized if i didn’t drink as much as i did i probably wouldn’t be friends that im friends with now, as when they’re drinking the majority of them are boring and is also an explanation why i always seek out girls to hang with when out

live life, i’ve had some of my best times while out drinking, more opportunities…just dont make it a habit to get hammered every night

Im 25 years old and have been training for 8 years seriously. I have gone through phases that I have drank a good deal, and I have gone through phases where I have drank no alc. at all.

I have gone through times where I have planned out all of my meals and workouts, and times when I eat when I feel like it, and go into the gym and just work out whatever is not sore.

For the past year and a half, I have drank between 1/2 and 1 bottle of red wine pretty much every night, sometimes a bit more on the weekends. I go into the gym with no specific plan. I try new exercises and train what is not sore that day.

I can honestly say with no doubt, I have become much leaner and stronger, and made more progress in the past year than ever before.

I am not saying to drink a bottle of wine every night, but I do find that drinking a bit takes my mind off the stress of life and helps me to relax.

Eat well, train hard, but take time to enjoy life. Do not let workouts and diets consume your life. If you are not enjoying your life, your body will suffer.

That’s food for thought. I’ve been toying with the idea of having a glass or 2 of red wine every evening for relaxation.

Red wine is great, but honestly just using your head with alcohol is the best bet. Getting trashed should not be the goal, limit yourself to moderation and don’t forget to hydrate after every alkai drink you take in.

For those who don’t drink, your already ahead of the game!!!

That’s another thing I was thinking about. If one were to compeltely disregard the antioxidants (which you can get plenty of elsewhere) then is there really any point in avoiding a shot or half a shot of hard liquor in favor of a couple cups of wine?
