Drinking on the weekend, preparations?

Ok guys, heres the deal. I’ve got something called a nomikai on the weekend, which basically translates to huge drinking party from Japanese. I have these every once in a while, but now that Im on a bulking phase, Im literally frightened of it, and I think that Im gonna store a helluva lot of fat from this one night (saturday). I will get plastered no matter what, thats a given, I have to…it has to do with acceptance, and Japanese culture.

My question is, since I eat about 4500-5000 calories a day, should I drop my cals to about 2500 before the party…and then drink away, or is there something I can do do get wasted by not drinking that much and hurting my gains? Im very lost and very scrared here…please help me out, as Im on week 6 of my 12 week program, and I seem to be holding on to about a 14% bf, and I dont wanna see that go up by that much. BTW, I lift on Mon-Wed-Fri every week, if that helps.

Is there something I can do saturday night before bed, or sunday morning to get back to normal for monday afternoons workout? Please help guys…I dont drink much here, but this is one of those times that I have to, the Track and Field club requires it.

(If this sounds completely insane, thats because I live in Japan, and Japan is insane…so please, give me all that youve got as far as advice goes.)

I think you should lighten up a bit and go have some fun. What’s the point of getting into great shape if you can’t enjoy yourself occasionally? Not that I’m saying you need alcohol to enjoy yourself.

Anyway, you’re on a bulking phase so what’s the problem? You should be much more worried if you were cutting.

Whatever you decide to do in terms of calories, make sure you eat a lot right before the festivities. You will get royally wasted and horribly hungover if you go on a drinking binge on an empty stomach. Also if you are full, and drink plenty of water during and after, you will tend to drink less.

By the way, can I come?

Yeah, it’s a one day thing. It might throw you out of whack for a short while, but just be consistent before and after it.

I’d say cut back on the calories a little the day of and the next day and possibly expect a light first workout as well if you were really trashed and hung over.

In all honesty, I wouldn’t be HALF as worried about “gaining a lot of fat” from one night of drinking as i would be about losing muscle from not eating the next day and not working out with proper intensity. I never workout the day after i drink and i never drink if i have workout planned the next day. if i were in your situation and knew it was coming, i’d probbaly do an am/pm split on saturday just so that sunday consists of nothing more than lying on the couch and shovelling food into my upset stomach. And as far as gaining fat … come on dude, its a bulking stage! youre gonna gain a little…

You could always boot and rally. Less booze stays in you that way. Also drink a ton of water before bed.

Totoroski-san, daijoobu desu yo. If you are eating clean, but heavy most of the time one weekend of drinking is not going to totally destroy all of your hard work. Plus like several other have said, you are in bulking phase so a certain amount of BF gain is to be expected. Have fun, drink a bunch meet a girl, sleep all day on Sunday.

I’ve seen it suggested numerous times on this site that if you drink you should consider supplementing with M since it will fight the E promoting/T dumping effect of alcohol.

I don’t claim to know much about it myself, just that I’ve read it, from TT and others.

At the end of the night go into the bathroom and stick your finger down your throat and throw up, it may not be appealing but it will lessen the damage.

well guys, thanks for all the advice so far. First of all, Ive been in a run-in with the sticking the finger down the throat, and Im not a fan. I cant say I’ll be doing that.

Thanks for all the support on this one. The good news is that i work out on a mon-wed-fri schedule, so that drinking on sat night is probably the best time I could do it. from friday night 'til monday afternoon, its all rest.

I was more worried about this on bulking though because it would mess up my gains. However, i dont worry about it that much on fat loss, since I can just compensate with less calories, and more cardio throughout the week.

Oh well, I guess Im just gonna go tear some stuff up. I wanna get wasted off as little as possible though, so should i really eat a bunch before I go out? And what is this M stuff that was talked about earlier?

yeah it seemed a bit much to me. No offense, but eating disorders dont seem very T-Man to me. But then again, neither does worrying about one night of drinking…

This topic has been discussed in a new post probably at least every 3-4 weeks, so you could look for the info on those threads.

From experience, I would say you should eat some clean P+F meals for the day prior to the binge drinking. I wouldn’t say you need to cut your caloric intake much at all, especially if you are bulking. If possible I would drink clear alcohols such as vodka and rum, shots, or if you can’t handle that, then mix with a zero calorie drink. I like sugar free red bull. Eat beef jerky or some other form of lean protein while you drink. If you want to feel better in the morning, I would suggest quitting drinking alcohol about 3 hours before bed, and switch to drinking gatorade in a 50% mix. Keep eating lean protein if you can. Immediately before bed, take 2 multivitamins with 8 oz. water.

If you are going to stop drinking 3 hours before bed, you might have to drink pretty fast in the first hours of the party or whatever to get a good buzz on, but trust me, it will be worth it in the morning.

This post gets under my skin. Lighten up! Stop whining and go have a good time.

Oh, and 1 more thing: you make this sound like its not your fault you’re going to drink. Accept the fact that no one can make you drink, just like no one can make you take drugs. If you don’t want to drink, don’t. If you don’t want to get drunk, don’t. Why am i even responding to this post? Oh yeah, because it got udner my skin.

Go get ripped! Having fun is what its all about anyway provided its in moderation. I’d stick with the previous advice of vodka, rum, etc mixed with zero calorie mixers. Rum and diet coke for instance. Before bed drink lots and lots of water with possibly a little gatorade with a multi-v. The next day go bust some light cardio out if you can hang otherwise smoke a bong hit and play some video games. Train the day after.

I got invited to a party over the weekend and I hadn’t drank in months. Needlessly to say, it ruined my fire to work out for the next 4 days. Couldnt get back in routine of eating right either till today which I worked out for the first time this week. I had skipped 2 workouts already. Shit happens but had a blast at the party.

missing 4days because of a little drinking? You must have been seriously hammered…

alright thankns a million guys, even those of you that basically called me a pussy. Thats alright. I know I dont have to drink, but A) I want to because its fun, and B) You are expected to to fit into the group here. I really cant explain it, but its Japan for ya. Always about fitting in with the group.
