Drinking Coke after a Workout

The nutrient timing of whey is the same as fast acting carbs. The two most optimal times are breakfast, and peri-workout. The goal of breakfast, is to break-the-fast and whey and simple carbs will give you a nice shot of insulin to get this done.

k, my point here is getting a bit overlooked by trying to prove whos right and who is wrong… we went from skim milk sucks and whole milk is way better to now whey in the morning sucks and eggs are better… i like havin a whey shake in the morning along with a large breakfast… i dont like eating too many eggs and since i eat about 2 hours later i choose a whey shake over other forms of protein shakes… the reason i choose the whey shake is because i havnt had anything for at least the past 8 hours while i was sleeping… hense, thats why i choose a fast acting form of protein… am i really the only one that finds this logical?? Wooops actually read this post after having posted the translation one just above. Ah well…

Bicep_craze, I got entranced by your avatar. Simply amazing.

Back to the OP’s question. I dont think drinking coke after a workout is an issue. Sure there is HFCS in it, and sugar or waxy maize might be a better option, but its not going to hurt, especially if you are trying to gain weight. If you are cutting, then a soda after your workout is the best time of day to have it, but you shouldn’t be having soda while cutting. Caffeine, (especially the amount in a soda) will not have any negative effects on building muscle recovery from a workout.

Having said that, there are much better options than a soda, and that is why almost nobody drinks sodas after workouts. 20-30g of whey with 60-90 grams of fast acting carbs will do the trick. If you find a protein that tastes good with soda, then go for it.

dankid, bicep_craze: THANK YOU! finally someone sees my side…!

Nothing to do with logic, but your posts came across that ALL you have for breakfast is a shake. Or that the protein shake was more important than getting in a big breakfast in the morning.

May teh force of teh majestic jumping boobies be with you.

PS: Bicep_craze and his avatar aren’t in anyway supporting this fella argument against the ‘Big black guy’ nutrition argument. As a matter of fact Bicep_craze is being a coward to avoid an encounter with said ‘Big black massive guy’. Bicep_craze is hoping any flames to be attenuated by means of mesmerizing jumping boobies.

in the morning perhaps… havin a whey shake when u wake up instead of havin eggs or somethin…

I want you to give a good reason for avoiding eggs in the morning for a whey protein shake other than “it gets absorbed fast”. Fast absorption is a NON-ISSUE if you are eating several times a day. Do you avoid steaks because they don’t “absorb” as fast?

Using your logic, why not just drink protein shakes all day and forget about real food?
So it was you who invented the V-Diet! I knew it!

Who gives a shit as long as your getting something I don’t see what the big problem is.
I prefer a shake I don’t like eating much in the morning.

i drink a quick carb + whey upon waking, then i do my am tasks shit shower shave type of thing WHILE MY REAL BREAKFAST IS COOKING!

The dosage of caffeine in the study I posted on here re: glycogen restoration was 400-600 mg.

Try taking in some Fenugreek and 400 mg of caffeine at the start of your last exercise, then go home and chug down a C+P drink (about 20 min later).

At least, that is how I’d use it.

Its not that people don’t see your side, its that you’ve obviously read too many Weider magazines (I know, I’ve been there). Whey protein is an excellent tool to have in your belt, but is by no means the be all end all of muscle building that some will have you believe.

I know drinking a protein shake after a work out is a must, but a mate has told me to also drink some coke due to the fast acting carbs just wondering your thoughts and if it is dependant on whether you are bulking/cutting cheers for any help…
if youre someone whose on the go most of the time, coke+whey+bcaa’s would fit the bill nicely. not to mention the caffeine rush. cheers!

While we are on the soda topic, was wonderin what everyone’s take on diet soda is. Drinking water with every meal gets a bit boring and I need something with flavor. Anyone got any advice on healthy flavored drinks? Ice Tea, diet soda? What do yall drink?

Whole Milk.

I stay away from any kind soda. I dont like aspartame.

I always wonder why most insist on whole milk. the skim milk in my grocery store has more protein than the whole milk… is there somethin im missin?

Calories.

Ok, but isnt protein more important than calories? Wouldnt the one with more protein benefit u more (muscle growth wise) than less protein and more calories?

Calories are the most important aspect when it comes to gaining lean body mass. It doesn’t matter how much protein you are eating if you aren’t eating enough calories overall to grow.

Isn’t there a beginner’s section?

Sorry, didn’t know I couldn’t ask questions here… I guess I should have asked in the “beginners” section… However, I doubt I would get very accurate answers… Didn’t know this forum was for pros and experts only… but thanks for the tip, il try switchin to whole milk…

This isn’t about simply asking questions. This is about being in the dark so much that you thought your protein intake alone was going to magically put muscle on you. It shows complete inexperience and while some of that is tolerated, if someone tells you that calories are most important, should your response really be that you thought protein was more important than calories?

Why would you think that?

Why would you assume that the big guy telling you something is so wrong on an issue that basic?

wasnt questioning whether calories or protein intake is more important. i usually drink skim milk throughout the day for better and faster protein since it drinking whey makes more sense with skim as there is less fat and the muscle receives the protein faster than with whole. whole i might start drinking before bedime with my slow release protein now that i think about it, and i guess the extra calories are good for me before bed anyway… i think there are benefits for whole and skim, and i was just askin y everyone seems to be so pro whole, u can get calories in other ways as well… wasnt doubting calorie intake. and yes, calorie intake is very important but u do need calories made up of meaningful components, otherwise i would just eat mcdonalds all day long and gain muscle…
your actually better off with whole milk; its less processed and has more nutrition in it overall. dont worry about gaining weight; remember, most of it is being consumed during the first half of the day, so your good to go. before bedtime, skim.

i do that at times when im in a rush to get to work. whey plus some fruit or a slice or two of bran bread.

Now I’m confused… I always heard whole before bed because it contains more fat than skim so the protein release is slower than with skim…
