Drinking Coke after a Workout

I know drinking a protein shake after a work out is a must, but a mate has told me to also drink some coke due to the fast acting carbs just wondering your thoughts and if it is dependant on whether you are bulking/cutting cheers for any help…

avoid carbonated drinks since they slow digestion, and you don’t want that after a workout. Why not buy some maltodextrine? or at least 25 G of simple sugras and then some oatmeal?

I eat a banana (25G carbs+potassium), 25G simple sugars (common white sugar) and some oatmeal (around 50G carbs) and a protein shake. Thats a wooping 100G carbs, 25g are fast acting, 25G are slower, and 50G of longer absorbing carbs plus around 50G of protein, where 40G is a complete source of protein (whey protein isolate).

Then an hour after I eat some meat and veggies, with some more carbs (not more then 10G carbs…a loaf of white bread). By this time the insulin spike by the simple sugars should be enough to shuttle those nutrients in the muscle. That’s what I do at least.

Or buy a bottle of Surge Workout Fuel. Or buy some chocolate milk which has a close chemical profile to Surge. If you need some quick calories after a workout drink a couple of cups of chocolate milk, then eat your simple carbs etc…that’s what I do.

You don’t want caffeine after work out. The body is trying to rest, give it some rest.

Drinking a coke after your work out is pointless. The best thing to do is when you finish have your shake, and when you get home eat a meal (all within your 30min anabolic window). Like Bicep_craze said, have some oatmeal, its perfect for after your workout.

caffiene in some random ass studies shows that it can help with glucose re-absorption or some b.s. so it’s not all that bad.

This is like the 3rd or 4th time I’ve talked about this and I’m trying to find out what dumbass in a magazine or online article wrote it…that way I can find them and kill them so they don’t spread any more bad advice…it seems to be like the plague spreading from person to person these days.

no offense OP if I had heard this a while back I’d be curious too…I’ve just had a lot of discussions on this topic already lol

Part of what you saying is true…like DG said, caffeine increases the amount of sugar present in the blood. That’s why caffeine is good to take as a pre workout supplement (some coffee maybe).

I think it came from it being reported that Cutler’s PWO meal for a while was ice cream and soda

This is where I heard it first. Cutler used to drink flat soda with whey protein after his workouts. There are probably easier ways.

Back in highschool a boy of mine used to always drink a soda PWO just cause he liked soda and he wanted to drink one he had no idea what PWO nutrition was about and neither did I, I didn’t eat anything for a while after I worked out, He grew faster than me. Point being I was a dumbass and also a coke is better then nothing.

crazy ass kid at my school got a barrel chest (and nothing else) by taking lsd before workouts and doing nothing but benching.

I don’t know what kind of postworkout nutrition he got, but I would guess it involved an ihop or similar palce.

lately I’ve just been taking in 90-100 grams waxymaize. Then a bowl of kids cereal+whey like 15-minutes to half hour after. Works good, love me bloat.
