Drinker with a Gym Problem

Go over and help Freckle Face with her wine issue. I read her lament about being unable to lay off the grape and thought of you. Is it possible to be a lean, hard, six-pack-sporting oenophile? [/quote]

I was laying off the grape just fine this weekend, Kimba, really! I did however ingest six - I mean seis Dos Equis with 1/4 of a lime in each … cold, foaming, sweet, pulpy brew. Never considered a different kind of six pack a real possibility.

knowing that my biggest challenge for this program will be the bench and MP, i’m looking forward to seeing what kind of improvements i can make since i’ve done very little of both. hence, the semi-jacked up day today with the start of 5/3/1 MP today. because my numbers will be so low for those 2, i must accept that i will be working with the ‘chips.’ (thanx Bobbi, didn’t know 2.5’s were called such!) also due to rounding up or down with these puny weights makes it a little harder to figure what is best. trial and error i spose.

good warm up. went in thinking i would do 45, 50 then 55 after doing calculations. pushing the bar and stopping at five seemed absurdly light… uh, don’t curse me i know i need to check the ego at the door.

MP:
5 x 55,60, 65+1. <<<<this is where i know i should have started at 45 or maybe 50. need to get those reps out

i like assistance option 4, Dave Tate 5 sets x 20 reps stuff

standing MP bar x 15 (wanted to push the bar again but next time will do 5 sets of one thing)
went to seated MP 15 DBs x20,17,17,15

lat pull 75 lbs x20,20,17,15,20 (got 20 on last due to longer rest chatting with monkey butt squat guy)

tricep straight bar pushdown 50 lbs 20,20,20,17,15

2 x 25 hypers, holy crap back burning today. decent stretching, been tennis ball and foam rolling tonight.

recall that yesterday i had a PR on deads, my back feeling nice and mildly sore. and chest is tad sore still from chest wrkout other day. not sure how bench would be tomorrow and i can’t do squats or deads 531 so not sure, might have to wait til tuesday.

i think i will like this program.

Nice work thus far mama!

MPs seem super hard to me, so your numbers look pretty freakin good. Good work.

Im doing Dave Tate’s too! But 4x8-10 seems like enough…

Nice MPs. I wish I could start out that well on those. But no.

15’s x 20 on the mp for assistance is awesome! nice work T.

i’m sorry for trying to throw sticks and rocks in ur pie hole over in the shoe. please forgive me. it was just so open and gaping. dreamy.

Hi T, about your pressing movements, Im facing the same challenge due to my structural misnomers. I got some pretty good advice on my log if you want to check it out. Im going to bw concentrating on volume on those moves and keeping it 5 3 1 for LB. Im hoping after 3months, i can push more weight.

thanks sye! i’ll head over now. the weird thing with my shoulder (the current issue) is that pressing doesn’t hurt. little weird things, like pulling the shower knob on does. i need a cool book with peektures of muscles. and extra cash to go see my massage therapist.

no worries, deja. although you edited or it was removed.

thanks all!
Masch: i think you would like this program and could make some awesome gains. i’m going to LOVE the structure and knowing exactly what i’m doing. no more OFP.

MIM: since my #s are so low for bench and MP, i will get great satisfaction from cranking out those 10-20 reps.

kimba: silly girl, you got 20 on your last set for squats. i got one lousy extra.

Tell me about it. I got a twinge from mine turning a page in my newspaper while travelling home on the tube. Stoopid thing.

'xactly Cal! putting my purse over my shoulder…the littlest things. and if we were well versed in anatomy and all that good stuff, i’m sure there is an easy explanation. i love the tube.
“mind the gap…”

get your mind out of the gutters, people. it’s transportation, really.

i recall cbear saying don’t lift more than 2 days in a row, so i won’t lift today…i’m busy cooking to send a pan of enchiladas (delicious green sauce variety) to my friend with the missing appendix. so i will do chest tomorrow.

are u always gonna do what i say?

I love that you guys call them ‘Dave Tates’…lol

yes, claire, unless i don’t feel like it. bobbi-i was just referencing Wendler’s reference to Tate. are you picking on me like the bear does? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

so-must confess i hit the vodka last night and inadvertently drank too much. completely unplanned. much guilt followed today…boo hoo. felt decent enough by 8 pm to go see what i could pull from the floor, since i’ve only been pulling rack deads, i didn’t know what my max is.

i did 190. 1, 1, 2. i think i can say that’s my max. must have killed brain cells b/c i didn’t figure out % spot on, but fairly close.

week 1, day 2 5/3/1 DL:
115 x 5
125 x 5
135 x 5+7
actual # should be 110/128/145. i’ll use that next week.

seated leg press 5x20 115 lbs

leg curl 15 x 100 lbs/20, 15, 15 x 85lbs/ 20 x70lbs

oh. i pulled into my driveway to see a CHP ticketing my neighbor’s baby daddy truck cause it was parked on the curb…wow. what a prick.

Good deadlifting - wasn’t it chest day though?
Wondering if I should lower my DL numbers after last time. Hrmm mmm.

Unplanned vodka swilling, huh? Nice.

Good deadlifting indeed!

um, yeah, except max is 185. tolled you i killed brain cells, i didn’t add that up right. #s should be 108/125/140. i like those even better. yeah, i was thinking i needed to skip DL cause i did some sat. but i felt rested enough and wanted to stick to the schedule as written.

Nice pulling. I’ll bet you could do even better without the vodka appetizer.

we might know someone who could get him outta the ticket…

so un-eventful and borderline embarrassing benching for day 3 of 5/3/1
estimated max is 95 (cause i actually did it once, i’ve only benched like 3 times)

55x5
65x5
70x5+8

at least there is a LOT of room for improvement, no?

DB decline bench 25s x 20. stopped at that cause of shoulder pain<<<pissing me off.

narrow grip pull-downs 75lbs x20, x20,
tricep reverse grip push downs 50 lbs x20, x20 then went to supersetting pull-downs with tris b/c of time:

same weights, pull-downs then tris 20/20 15/20 15/20

short on time cause i went really late to avoid resolutioners.

Aww. The bp will get up there in no time I’m sure.

Oddly, my gym isn’t full of resolutioners this year. What gives? I don’t mind, but its weird.
