It’s a Dan Hillier drawing. I found it when I was researching what steampunk was for an electro concert I went to last fall and I just thought it was really cool.
Oo I was about to start hating on you for the 5 at 135 squats til you clarified it was 0.5 squats! Still good at 95 with correct form.
Love those overhead squats with a press. ![]()
I’ll zap u anytime, hott stuff.

back at’chya…tootz!
another successful day of training. my shoulder is still acting a lil funny, so i’m being careful. had no idea what i was going to do, but i came up with this:
hanging clean and press (yippee, in the rack with oly+plates!!!)
4 x 6 @65 (did 10 OH press just bar before and after)
flat DB press
4 x 6 35s
decline DB press (did a little fly/twist action at the top of the press)
10, 3x 8 30s
flat DB flys
10, 3x 8 25s
skull crushers superset w/ close grip chest press
2 x 15 (both exercises) w 30 BB
y-bar pushdowns
3 x10, 8 @ 60
threw in bench dips here and there. did a few sets of sit-ups between decline presses.
2 sets of front then lateral raises 12.5 dbs, 10 for each
did 2 sets of hanging leg raises to remind me i have abs somewhere.
started out with 4 rounds of HIIT on stairmaster, was taxing my legs a tad from yesterday, so i finished the last 6 min on level 13.
just ate .5 sweet potato w/ pro powder & a lil pure maple syrup. will see how long i can hold out before i eat the chicken cacciatore i made last night.
You can fly 25s but only press 35s…hmm…
i never said i could only press 35s, ms. bobbi. i won’t take that as you calling me a fibber…![]()
i’ve haven’t hit chest in weeks + my shoulder issue so i didn’t try for anything too hard. i can fly 30s, and have done 35s. i can press 40s. i believe i tried to press 45’s and failed ( i should take a gander back many pages)
I wasn’t calling you out. Those are some insane flys. I can’t fly anymore than 25s with any kind of decent form and I press 55s.
press 55s…that’s just dreamy. but i already told you that, Bobbi!
and yes, form gets a lil iffy over 30s on the flys. i don’t want to risk injury so i will stick with 25 and 30.
today: saw Starhbrite/(Brenna) and that was cool, been a long time. (you may or may not remember her stopping in my journal)
just enough to get the heart rate up a tad. rest day from weights.
did 40 hypers. push 45 plate back and forth across gym floor. did 10 back and 10 front squats atg w bar. just because. 10 min HIIT.
headed to grandma’s for the night. happy new year’s everyone. be safe out there and have fun. ![]()
Happy new year to you, T!
T, nice workouts to end the year. Onwards to the new one! Who knows what achievements await you, but I’ll bet they’ll be impressive.
thank you arachne and kimba!
yes-achievement this year WILL be reaching the level of leanness that has eluded me thus far. i may not get to the perfection i have planned in my mind, but it will be better than i’ve ever looked. at 36, that’s nothing to sneeze at.
(and even if i don’t get as lean as i want, i know i will be WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY stronger thanks to all you girls here!)
p.s. too bad i’m 2 cocktails in, or i might have come up with some worthwhile musings as miss bear did…
alcohol and keyboard for me are NOT a good mix…
still no musings, but i had a grand time with my grandma last night and did overhear some typical resolution type talk from 2 women sitting nearby us at the bar (of a nice restaurant…didn’t go out bar hopping with gram)
both ladies look as though if they ever did any kind of ‘working out,’ it was likely 15+ years and 40+ lbs ago. not being a jerk, just stating the obvious. (heavy smoking/drinking appears to have aged lady1 more than lady2)
lady1: yeah…i’m so going to start working out. i’ve got to lose this weight. if i get to like 145, 150, that would be perfect.
lady2: me too! i’m going to start eating better. and i’ll work out too.
L1: i went to curves last year! for like 6 months!!! i’m really gonna try it this year.
L2: yeah…starting tomorrow. i’m going to start cooking better…blah blah…
it again was a reminder of how unrealistic the majority of people are in how they will achieve their ‘weight’ loss and their failure to realize it’s a lifestyle, fucktards, not a quick fix. makes me sad for them.
the same people at my work will do the ‘biggest loser’ weight loss bet (but, oh, gee, it will be a % of their bw, so that makes it legit “weight” loss, right?) and the girl that won last year was a scrawny buck10 to begin with and actually lost 10 lbs…uugggh! one lady will start starving again, do some working out then slowly put it back on.
so once we got home and saw the new year in, i read most of 5/3/1 in bed. then finished reading it this am. i better get to some calculating…tomorrow will be a halfish sorta day at work, then i will get to hit legs again.
what i learned since starting journal in october:
lifting heavier than i ever have and doing the big lifts is awesome. i feel tighter all over, even if there is some fluff over certain muscles (damn arms/back!)…my muskels really are hardening up and that makes me very happy. i can only imagine what a clean diet, less vino and a teeny tiny bit of metabolic (cardio) work thrown in with 5/3/1 will do for me in the next 2 months or so.
stretching more and working on the hip issues will be a MUST. i can’t keep being lazy about that. and the encouragement from you guys here is truly motivating, even if you are taxing my ass at times…thanks for being a part of this with me.
Think we have prety much the same goals there - more strength, less fat, better mobility (particularly hips).
Started on my 5/3/1 today. Think I’ll be able to manage the modest first month weights without blowing a joint.
Oh, thought this would tickle you. Back when I was working on a computer games mag in 1999, I was given a bottle of Millennium wine by a client. It was designed to be mature enough to drink for the Millennium, but as I’m not a regular drinker it just sat in the cupboard for ten years. I finally got it out for New Years. It was either going to be awesome, or vinegar. And happily, it was awesome - beautifully smooth. Everyone raved about it. I must admit I wish I’d stuck to that rather than also imbibing various cocktails and glasses of champagne that were pressed into my hands by various hairy gay men over the course of the evening. The hangover wasn’t pretty. The wine was great, though.
Go over and help Freckle Face with her wine issue. I read her lament about being unable to lay off the grape and thought of you. Is it possible to be a lean, hard, six-pack-sporting oenophile?
I’m with you T on the New Years goals - 2010 baby! (is it wrong that I keep saying this on January 3rd?)

Hahah! Wine does have anti-oxidants…
And resveratrol.
and deliciousness…
will post wrktout later. gotta run to see my friend in the hospital, appendix removed and doing fine.
hey Cal- i’m so glad to hear your wine was great! 10 years…mmmmm! yes, mixed cocktails & wine by the hands of hairy gays is certainly a recipe for a hangover. i can (and did) ok with a few vodkas and a few glasses of red the other night.

oh dear, the 6 million dollar question. of course and oenophile can…but can they DRINK and have it? i have never had 6 pack abs and likely never will. lean and hard? i will get there. i don’t care about sporting abs enough to quit. i personally like the curvy lean. maybe cause that’s what i’ve got and i’ll never be the lean lean kinda girl. it’s the arms that drive me mad, damnit!
possible the last of my OFP workout so that i can start 5/3/1 this week. wanted to hit legs again.
extra warm up, rack was occupado. 4 x 10 @100 seated leg extensions. 4 x 12 70 BB RDL. 20 db bulgarian split and single DL
lotsa squats. usual #'s so i won’t bore you. lots @95, several sets at 115. 10 atg front squats w/ bar and OH press
rack DL
8 x 135
2 x 7 155
3 x 4 175 <<<<weight PR, never tried 175. how the holy fuck do you girls pull those insane weights over 300? (it’s rhetorical, you don’t have to answer)
10 atg squats bar x OH press
cable tri-fecta 30 lbs (ab/ad/rear) 12 for each exercise
leg push downs 2 x 12 @ 85
super set bulgarian splits, single DL, sumo squat with 15 db
now, off to figure some RMs. this could be tricky. maybe tomorrow i go see what my real maxes are? i’ve only benched like 3 times. i’ve got solid idea about squat and DL. haven’t done much MP either.
I’ll look forward to seeing what you do with 5/3/1. If I were you, I’d go for your 3 rep max, then use Wendler’s max calculator. Less risky, I think. Especially if you really haven’t benched or MPd much.
