basically a lot of problems/issues atm to do with training are as a result of working out at home with limited equipment. so im hoping people who have had similar experiences could help.
If you lack the amount of weight to do certain exercises very challengingly, what is the best approach to build strength? Obviously this is not an ideal situation - you need to go heavy; but in the short-term, how would you attempt to gain strength whilst not being able to lift the massive amounts you desire to?
I’m thinking the ‘best’ would be some kind of volume training. any suggestions?
The first thing that comes to mind is “join a gym”.
Okay, now for the sake of argument let’s say you “can’t” join a gym…
Get back on here, and give me the specifics of your equipment…
What kind of bench do you have; if any
How many barbells do you have and what kind are they ( cap/olympic); if any
How many plates of each exact weight do you have and what kind are they ( standard/olympic) ; if any
How many dumbbells do you have and what are the exact weights of each and what kind are they ( standard/olympic adjustable, hex/pro ); if any
Do you have a place to chin? A door way bar, a pull up station, monkey bars, tree branch what?
I need to know exactly what you have, every detail and then I can help…not until I get that info…it’s out of my hands.
Oh yeah, and no matter how great a work out I can help you with, no matter how limited your equipment is, you should make it a priority to correct that. Join a gym, work out at a friends house, get a job, a second job, a third job to help you buy the equipment or join a gym. Do something about your lack of weights + bars, etc…Now…Actually maybe you should focus on getting the money to buy some stuff or join a facility rather than trying to squeeze blood from a turnip?
Think about it…
If you have stalled out and need something new, try doing pushups, or one arm pushups, also try doing pullups.
Maybe you have an old sled laying around, go buy a few 50lb bags of sand and put that on the sled and you’ve got yourself a perfectly working drag sled.
There’s alot of strongman training you could do, be creative.
Do lifts with one arm and a barbell - that should keep you going until you find some weights. People give away weights all the time - check craigslist, newspaper etc.
Save up for the $99 olympic set they sell at every major sporting goods store. You can get an Olympic bar and 300lbs of weight for under $100. That’s $.33/lb plus a free bar. Tough to go wrong at that price.
Also keep an eye out on craigslist. Many people just got new equipment for XMas and they will be trying to dump their old equipment. Better yet, be proactive and place an advertisement offering to haul their old equipment off free of charge.

Bulgarian split squats are very good for your lower body and require far less weight than back squats for an effective workout.
