It’s funny. I learned about vasoconstrictors and vasodilators in high school from a John Meadows video
This checks out. Now thinking about it, the headaches usually come after a day of no electrolytes and lots of dehydrating but will subside once I get a packet in.
Thanks for the info! I really didn’t put 2 and 2 together with the vasoconstrictors like that.
Absolutely dude! That used to be a trick of mine during Deep Water: I’d always get a terrible exertion headache after the 10x10 squats in the later weeks of the program, and I learned to drink a Rockstar and pop 2 excederin at set 7 to chase it away.
…which is probably a sign that I was doing something SUPER bad to myself, haha.
Not even going to lie, this program popped up in my head and got put on my list of hypertrophy stuff to run
The list to run after 70’s powerlifter has become:
Building the monolith (massing)
Josh Bryant’s 8x8 (small cut)
Deep water (massing again) (this is one there as a maybe)
Alex Bromley’s PowerBuilder (in base strength)
I got away from reps when I was at that gym but now that I left, I see all the gains on the table from reps and realized those guys didn’t do them because they lacked the conditioning lol
The withdrawal headaches should stop after about a week or so at the new lower caffeine dosage, but in the meantime, as @T3hPwnisher mentioned, try upping your salt a bit and there’s always Tylenol or ibuprofen if it gets awful. I know taking something isn’t desirable, but if you’re miserable, it might be worth it just until you get through the worst of it. Hang in there and keep fighting the good fight! lol
@QuadQueen Thanks! I’ll try the advil next time! You should make a 5 step program for caffeine
70’s Powerlifter W1D4
Time: 41 mins
Deadlift (deadstop I’m proud of that lol): 245x3x10
RDL: 175x2x10
SSB GM: 85x2x10
BOR: 155x3x15
GHD: 20x3x15
Straight HLR: 3x15
Notes:
Keeping everything light and fast. More importantly moving correctly
@T3hPwnisher Apparently if you say deepwater in your training log Jon Andersen appears in your DM (Just joking bc it was perfect timing after talking today. I think the fact he messages his followers is really really cool)
YouTube video. Caffeine junkies are too jittery to sit down and read a book. They’ll play the YouTube video at 2x speed to absorb the information twice as fast! So make sure you speak slowly.
Another +1 for a YouTube video. Hell maybe even a paid video series called “caffeine cancellation” or something more clever lol.
Random question, I know most multivitamins are okay at best but I saw this today at Walmart and I was curious to know what you think. I’ve never seen vitamin packs like this before
My thoughts on this vitamin pack specifically are that there’s a whole lot of stuff in it that you really don’t need. Like, does anyone require 6000% of Thiamin? Hard no. The different “complexes” are kind of hokey. Do you really need a Liver Detox? Again, hard no. There’s also likely some amount of caffeine in that Energy and Focus component as there’s green tea leaf extract.
My advice would be to just get a simple multi with no more than 100-200ish% of any one nutrient. The Costco Kirkland brand multi is pretty solid. And then if you’re have issues in other areas like with your digestion, etc. - just add the supplements you need in those areas. Less is more!
Went to a movie Friday, Ren Faire Saturday, and Christmas shopping/decorating Sunday. Busy and fun weekend with the GF
Got to do the day drinking thing at the Ren Faire. Mead is alright at best
People are ignorant and I feel bad for people who are delusional and can’t read social cues at all. To this, I had a dude I use to train with get pissed off at me because I just stopped talking to him and hanging out with him when I left that gym. He got all mad said “I have no respect for a “man” who can’t say stuff to people’s faces” when I had to explicitly tell him I didn’t want to be friends with him. This is funny to me because he is one of the biggest pieces of shit I’ve met. Being a good partner to my girl, I don’t want to hang out with someone who is known for being manipulative and a serial cheater. Personally, I don’t like to be friends with people who do more drugs than not. Lessoned learned. Trust my gut on people like I had been, it’s usually not wrong
Shoulders are feeling amazing. I can comfortably bench in both grips which is a huge win
I got an actual Power bar for my birthday. It’s a lot nicer for powerlifts and presses than my oly bar that’s for sure
Barbell squat felt like shit. Was lifting at my sister’s house
Also this program is pretty meh. It’s just boring. Conjugate was more fun for sure
@TrainForPain I really like the knee sleeves! I have the cloth hookgrip blue ones and 7mm bells of steel. These are more comparable to the cloth ones but way warmer and more direct on the knee joint. Really nice for warmth and no extra fabric (I hate normal neoprene sleeves bc of that)
@TrainForPain Elbow sleeves are awesome. No problems at all
That dude who I ended the friendship with me said something that stuck with me. In his mind, because I left that weird gym, he thought I quit lifting so he said “just because you weren’t good at it doesn’t mean you should quit”. I want to be better than having those words drive me but I want to make that motherfucker eat them. Because I refuse to go on gear and throwaway my life to do a dumb sport, he thinks he’s hot shit. I want to absolutely crush him not only in the gym but in life. Why? Because he’s a fucking piece of shit. He tried to big dog me and act like he’s a man but I’ve never seen someone operating in that much “bad faith”. I hope he comes around and fixes his life but until then. Fuck him
Alright, As the one and only @T3hPwnisher says “Chaos is the Plan” so training wise, I’m going to finish out this 3 week wave of 70’s powerlifter and switch back over to conjugate. Because I have exams next week, I’ll be on break by Wednesday and able to actually start rugby and bjj stuff. So that’ll eat into recovery and 70’s powerlifter was a good break for something hard and planned so I could focus on school stuff.
The 1 day on 1 day off framework is great for the hypertrophy work because I’m actually getting sore as hell after sessions. Life has also been busy. We did the ren faire again Sunday and I’ve been having last exams this week and actual finals next week. I was spending more time with the GF because she leaves for 2 weeks soon so had to make time. So while I haven’t been in the gym, as much, I’ve been walking and stretching a lot.
Following the “Chaos is the Plan” model, I treated myself on black Friday and got a mammoth belt squat and a beginners leatherworking kit and some easy templates
