Neither of those are really cringeworthy! If it was something like “Batman69”, it would be. Punisher and emevas are neat in with their background stories. It’s foreign to me for liquor stores to be a thing. I know they are but I’ve always walked down the liquor section in grocery stores or gas stations (with a parent as a kid). It’s actually weird how it’s fine for a kid (with a parent) or an adult to walk down them but a teen with a parent just feels sketchy.
What’s the story with mythicalstrength? Something DND related I would think.
I picked mine because I am a big history/mythology nerd, and I thought “Atlas carried the weight of the world on his shoulders”, which seemed legit for a weightlifting forum. 13 for 13th company USNA (get lucky)
The only comments I’ve ever gotten about it are people talking about Ayn Rand…. sigh
Appreciate having so many opportunities to bloviate here, haha.
It was honestly just something that struck me in 2012 when I started the blog. I was training in my garage, I had a white board for tracking some numbers, and on it I wrote “I want to by mythically strong”. I was thinking about how so many of Paul Anderson’s records were under contention to this day (like his 1200lb raw squat), and I thought about how incredible would it be to be so strong that people come up with stories about you that are so nuts people assume they MUST be fake…but there’s also a hint of believing them. Like, if I say I knocked out a gorilla at the zoo, you’d just say “Bullshi*t”, but if I say Mike Tyson did you’d say “Bullsh-t: how big was the gorilla?”
Bill Kazmaier will always be the strongest human that ever lived to me, but Paul Anderson will always hold a special place in my heart for just how unbelievably strong he was.
Always like seeing what you have to say or read stories you have!
You’ve definitely hit that level with some of the stuff you do! Like 405x20, “There’s no goddamn way. Oh wait, it was Pwn”
He was ridiculously strong but I really like his personality. I kind of miss that in sports. Big personalities and dominance versus sportsmanship to the point of being uninteresting. Only reason I bring this up is because my English teacher was trash talking some tennis player after she won a high level match and beat on her chest. He said it was unsportsmanlike and primal (along with some other stuff) even though she shook her opponents hand. Maybe it has to do with it being tennis but that was probably one of the more exciting things to happen on a tennis court in a while lol.
There’s a certain mythical status you attain when you dig a hole in your back yard to change squat ROM and move that much weight!
Holy shit. I could not do bodyweight pullups after those DB rows. First time that has happened. definitely something there.
Audio book wise, started “Relentless” by Tim Grover. Couple hours in and it’s pretty good
BTN was supposed to be push press but I am not comfortable with BTN Push Press for 15 reps. Plus strict pressing is pretty cool and it helps my shoulders
I realized I like the old Wes Watson videos. Now he’s doing the whole influencer flexing thing which I think his old self would be against but. A lot of it reflects what I was coming to believe. Living life out of gratitude. You push hard and live life fully BECAUSE you are grateful to do it. To not would be a waste
Weird day. Had no class until ECON. Decided to skip it because I had so much anxiety about getting my exam back. Ended up getting a 76% on it which I am more than fine with
Moving leg day to tomorrow. Doing it before events will limit what I can use for events which probably isn’t a terrible idea given my adductor is still healing. Plus my legs are still sore as hell
Leg extension: 75x2x20
Squat: 155x11, 205x7, 155x7 (adductor felt really weird and bruise in knee messing with the pattern)
Single leg Press (Chest to knee): 20(sled felt heavy)x2x15
Hamstring Curl: 60x2x20
Back Extension: 40x2x15 (need to do before hamstring curl)
EZ Barcurl: 65x2x15
Alt DB curl: 15x2x15
Concentration curl: 15x2x15
Pushdown: 50x2x20
Seated Row: 40 (each side)x2x15 (big stretch and pause)
High Row: 55(each side)x2x15
Machine Dip: 70(each)x2x15
Events:
Work up to 490 yoke and 200lb SB load
Bar is set super high on this. Basically have to shoulder it or front rack load over bar)
Yoke is low enough where it’s a 1/4 squat
Hercules Hold: Work of 3 plates each side: 44sec
Got a bad grip on handle but it was really easy)
Notes:
Had to use machine dips because a guy was using the only dip stands. He was doing 135lb dips. Kinda nuts to see in person
Adductor felt weird. Still not fully loosened back up
Still feel good about the comp and using the BB program to lead up to it. Might cut volume down week of comp but probably not.
Immaculate bicep pump.
Went bowling tonight. Quickly turned into how fast could I throw the ball down the lane. It was fun that way
Was thinking competition wise I want to do Alabama’s strongest man in August, King of the Mountain 3 ( North Carolina) in September, and then Highland Games style comp in November (Mississippi). The Highland games comp would be really cool because I could compete on the Saturday as a 20 yr old and then go to the festival on Sunday as a 21 yr old on my birthday. Would be a fun experience.
I meant it is similar to his famous deadlift video where he does one rep and they throw plates on and he does another. Only difference is it will be 13in DL and 50lb jumps are used. So it’s basically a reverse drop set ladder!
Hopefully it goes well! Yoke is fun but I hate power stairs!
Ah yeah that’s something we do pretty often here. Especially with car deadlifts.
Thanks, I’ve never done power stairs but we’re getting a duck walk implement now and I will be able to pratice with it.
I absolutely love yoke! Definitely my most competitive event.
@T3hPwnisher@AngryMonk I finished “Becoming a Barbarian” yesterday. It was pretty good and I like his writing style. Next up is “The Power of Myth” by Joseph Campbell.
I started “10 years: Incarcerated” by Wes Watson while the previous comes in. I like his early self improvement Youtube stuff and figured I’d give his book a read. If you thought Jim Wendler wrote in a bro-style, Wes Watson makes him look a scholar lol. Not to say the message is bad but it’s what I imagine what people (mainly on reddit) see when they say “Wendler is problematic in his writing”
Lying Hamstring Curl: 70x15, 80x15 90x9+6
RDL: 225x12, 240x6+6 (accidently used the reach technique on this set), 250x12
Hack Sissy Squat: 45x12, 57.5x12, 80x12
DB Lunge: 25x12, 30x12, 35x12
Leg Extension: 70x12, 80x12, 100x12
Notes:
RDL’s felt strong today. I’m using rest pause on the smaller stuff because it’s smaller stuff.
Also pushing through toes on sissy hack squats makes my quads work even harder. I’m a big fan of this movement because I don’t like the way most squat machines lock you in
Got my first complement in a while today. I was being told to jump to the open lightweight and one guy said “Your fucking strong for 180lbs”. I wish man, I wish
To the before, I could jump into open and win 3 events because the other lightweight has a broken foot and the 3rd guy I don’t know. Only issue is I’ve been training for novice weights and the first lightweight jump is the max 13in DL right now
Will have to think about the above. Tempted to stick to novice lightweight because it is what I’ve been training for and I know I can do all the weights for it
Lastly WHO THE HELL likes chocolate LMNT. I’ve tried it in coffee and hot water but I am so not a fan. Then again, I never liked stuff like Yoohoo
