@BrandonCrawford that’s what I’m thinking for this week. I actually really need to deadlift today because I’ll be away this weekend but it’s looking like I might just have some non gym days
@boilerman yeah that bit me in that ass haha

@T3hPwnisher I’ll be gone Friday-Sunday but I’ll have access to a commercial gym. I’m not exactly comfortable taking up a deadlift platform for 40 minutes so do you think I should deadlift today or take days off (from weights) until Sunday? I could deadlift today but I could also use the rest days so I’m torn
First 2 weeks, I don’t think there are too many sins to commit. It’s a feeling out process. Pick whichever works out for your schedule the best and just prepare to lock in on the final 4 weeks.
Sounds good! I’ll take it easy until Monday and hit a few hills/runs. Maybe if the gyms dead Saturday, I’ll deadlift

Out of curiosity, how old are you?
22 lmao
I only asked because there are times you remind me of my son. Lol. Now I know why. ![]()
My son is also a MTG nerd.
It’s been a recent interest! We’ve been getting into board games and I decided to try it. The deck building and competitive aspect is what I’ve been looking for
I’m glad he is into it. It forces him to talk to people in person rather than on a headset. It’s also kind of fun to watch them play. I actually told him that I want to play Baldurs Gate this summer with him. I don’t think he totally likes playing those kinds of games with me because I want to look at everything and then I either hold him up or he loses me and gets into a fight where he needs my help and I’m off reading a scroll or something. ![]()
Anywho…
Oh man I’m the exact opposite but there are so many games that benefit this. I had on the lore of “faith the unholy trinity” which is a cheap game with an insane story if you like horror
Yeah. So is he. It’s why he hates playing with me. ![]()

I really miss what MtG was back in ‘94. Apparently there are rulesets out there that still cater to that. But I have to appreciate the staying power it’s had.
I could see that. It definitely seems like it’s become “generic fighting card game with a cool character”. I was diving into some of the rules because my nephew wants to get into it and man it can get to be something ridiculous. I was actually looking at some of the older rule sets because they seem more teachable than the new 100 card commander stuff

Yeah, I legit have no idea what that even is, haha. I’m part of a group on facebook and I just tune out when it comes up.
I talk about this Christmas of ‘96 memory, because it’s so magical (pun not at all intended but now I love it) and captures what the spirit of the game was SUPPOSED to be, IMO. (Apologies for some old man bloviating here).
It’s Christmas morning. We would travel to my mom’s family’s in Tucson, and it was a big “to do” there, which meant we had to wait for the WHOLE family to show up before we could open up our gifts under the tree. BUT, my brother and I were allowed to open up our stocking presents in the interim.
Santa brought me a starter deck of 4th edition, and my brother got a starter deck of Mirage. 60 cards, 20 lands (5 of each color), 40 cards, ranging from summons to enchantments to sorceries to instants and interrupts.
We opened the decks fresh, shuffled them, and played against each other, having NO idea what was even in the decks for those first few games. We were figuring out the decks AS we played them. We had to devise strategies AS we drew the cards, and play with the hand we were dealt: metaphorically and physically.
We played all morning, until the family showed up, and still played after the gifts were opened. We organized some trades between the decks, after we spied cards on each others sides that we wanted.
Around ‘97 an edition came out called “Portal”, which was like rallycar MtG. Stripped down to the basics. Perfect for teaching newcomers, like you’re mentioning.
I just looked this up! I’ll keep it in my back pocket Incase this new beginners box with a prescripted tutorial deck doesn’t click
Training update: once again I thought I escaped soreness but suddenly my deep spinal erectors and deep core muscles are sore. Not a huge deal but no hamstring or hip soreness
