Doing Dumb Stuff as a College Kid

haha It’s like shorter suffering or more recovery

I’ll run intermediate for sure if you do beginner in a few weeks!

Thanks! I know I asked you a while ago but I couldn’t find the post!

Any chance you have a video? I only found the one with the barbell and I don’t have my copy of super squats with me

It’s something I just started doing as an alternative to the barbell version because it was easier set up and balance. You basically hook it up the same way you would with the barbell. I’ve done it with 2 100 pound dumbbells stacked on top of each other before. I do recommend having a bar or handles to grab for balance similar to a Hatfield squat.

Awesome I’ll save these 2 posts and play with them after deepwater!

I really thought I got away without soreness from the squats. Felt good this morning and I just got back home and suddenly my legs were jelly

Oh dude…

oh dude oh dude oh dude

You ever read Marvel Comics? Specifically, the Silver Surfer? You know how he’s Galactus herald, and he comes and warns planets that, soon, Galactus is going to come and devour their world?

Day 1 after squats is getting visited by the Silver Surfer.

Time: 43 min

Pull-ups: 14,10,9,7 (2 min rest where I rode on assault bike)
Bent over rows: 185x2x10,9,8 (2 min rest)
Clean pulls: 155x3x10
3 rounds of 1 min plank and 20 sit ups

Notes:

  • Spent a good amount of time warming up today
  • Clean pulls can be heavier next time. I was feeling them out today. Maybe 20lbs more
  • Switching to Deepwater diet. It was really easy to have 9 eggs this morning but that’s the only thing I’ve ate today
  • My roommate and I invited a friend we went to middle school with over last night. I haven’t seen him since high school but I could tell he needed people to hangout with when he got over here (I realize that sounds condescending but he was just getting out of rough patch). It was great seeing him

No it doesn’t. Sounds like you are aware of other people and their need/ feelings.

@BethB I see what you are saying! Idk the way I phrased it sounded weird to me haha

Time: 48min

Push press: 115x10x10 (25:38 total. 2 min rest)
Cable lateral raise: 15x3x10
BB curl: 65x2x10,9,8,7 (2 min rest)
BE/Sit up: 3x20

Notes:

  • @T3hPwnisher obviously the push press was too light but that was the percentage it worked out to be. What do you think I should do? Increase weight?
  • couldn’t get arms overhead after push press. Triceps are shot too
  • Finally figured out how to set up back extension on GHD. Ngl it feels like shit so reverse hyper might be the replacement
  • I put on some John prime after push press. It was relaxing
  • I started playing mtg last week on the mobile app. It’s pretty fun and I really enjoy it. I got the beginner box to get my nephew into it
  • I’ve mostly been having just coffee as my caffeine source (moca pot and French press because I have the few extra minutes to do it and it makes a huge difference) but I had a monster today and yesterday. Anxiety and spiraling was higher

Bench: 155x3x10
CGBP: 135x3x10
Incline: 135x6

Notes:

  • called it there. My fucking triceps hurt and my elbow started to hurt. Will make up volume or some shit at some point
  • Kinda frustrated. It seems really fucking stupid to have a chest day post tricep and shoulder
  • Seriously underfed with this keto shit. Cooking steaks tonight. My issue is is that rice is cheap.

Sorry, I totally responded to this in my head and didn’t do it in person.

If the percentages don’t work, Jon’s other guidance was to use a weight that would be a good 3x10 weight, and push that for 10x10.

But, with the fatigue you experienced as a result of this, maybe it doesn’t need to be dialed TOO differently.

Haha yeah definitely. It’s weird my serratus anterior, ribcage muscles, and lateral head of triceps are shot but my shoulder are fine.

I’ll probably add on like 10lbs and see! Reactive push pressing helps a lot

I do feel accomplished overshooting week one of Deepwater haha

It happens too often. People want that feeling in the first 2 weeks. Believe me: you WANT those weeks easy. It allows you to survive the end, haha.

Haha yeah. Lots of stress for an exam friday

Just to pair some positivity with my stress, I asked my epistemology prof “can we cancel class Friday because I have an exam before this class and I do not want to come to class” She said “let’s take a vote” and now we don’t have class Friday

That was my dating strategy in college.

FWIW I don’t plan on following the exact schedule laid out in the book, for these exact reasons. I plan on going “Legs/Chest/Active Recovery/Back/Shoulders/off/off”. There’s trying to follow the spirit of the program, and then there’s being a rules lawyer, and I feel pretty confident I’m within bounds with this change. Just my 2 cents…

I was doing this at the start of my second run through- trust the program and take the rest, especially coming from not doing deepwater previously. I had adjusted the weight throughout the 10x10 to where I thought it was appropriate considering the longer rest times.

The first 2 weeks will sometimes feel easy, but the following 4 will be exponentially more difficult after fatigue accumulates and rest times get cut.
