Doing Dumb Stuff as a College Kid

@DJoftheJungle1 Thanks! It’s not much but it’s something!

Conditioning/mess around day:

Stair climber: 5 min
Box jump: 24x2, 27x2, 30x2, 33x1, 36x1

ABC 40s: 1 per EMOM 10 min

2 rounds: 40lb bell

  • 7 high pull R/L
  • 5 snatch R/L

Notes:

  • Wound up in the gym with GF but legs were too tired to do a main day. Planning on running and lifting tomorrow
  • That’s a box jump PR
  • My knees are really feeling shitty. Like the quad tendon so I think I’m going to just do OG 531 over 3 weeks instead of the 2 weeks like the challenge is

Didn’t time. Was waiting for GF to finish her workout

3s week

Squat: 185x5, 205x5, 245x10 (this was really light)
Bench: 125x5, 145x5, 165x10 (this also felt light)
Hack squat: 90x10, 110x10, 140x10
Slight incline DB press (pause at bottom): 45x16, 50x15, 60x10
Chest supported row: 90x7,8 115x7
Lat pulldown: 110x10, 130x10, 150+5,3,2

20 min on stairmaster. It was pouring out so couldn’t make it to track. This was honestly hard

Notes:

  • Yeah I wound up doing the 3s week today. It felt good. My knees felt alright so thats a win
  • Even after crushing 6 modelos and a shot, the 5/3/1 sets were easy. Only drank bc we were at a social event, the beer was free, and I was not a huge fan of the people we were with

@T3hPwnisher I decided to minor in philosophy because I only need two more classes to minor in it. I plan on taking “Intro to Epistemology” and “Contemporary French Philosophy” but I saw “Paranormal Philosophy of Religion”. Have you ever taken something like that? Would that be worth taking over “Intro to Epistemology”?

Haven’t ever taken anything like that but it sounds fascinating.

Right! There’s no course description but I might wind up swapping the epistemology class for that if my schedule allows it!

Conditioning:

8 rounds on assault bike:

  • 20 seconds max effort sprint
  • 40 sec medium low ride

Notes:

  • Went to run this morning and my knees were not having it. I think it’s because I’ve been running in my metcons. Going to get a pair of running shoes or a thicker soled barefoot shoes to run in

What surface are you running on?

Its very mixed. Some concrete, some parts of the woods, grass, and gravel

If I had to split, I’d say 30% concrete, 40% gravel, 15% grass, and 15% woods like area

If you can get off that concrete, it would certainly go a long way. Especially so if you can get on a running track.

Sadly there’s no tracks around. I usually go to the rugby pitch for sprints and stuff like Oxygen Debt but I’m starting to do my walk/runs when I walk my dogs at the park/camp ground/equestrian center place

Time: 57 min

KB Swing: 44x2x10
OHP: 105x5, 115x5, 135x9
DL: 265x5, 300x5, 340x7
SSB Lunge: 13,11 (each leg)
DB OHP: 35x18,17,15
Pullups: Bwx2x7, 10x8, 25x8, 44x5
RH: 180x16,14

Notes:

  • The 2 extra rest days seem to help. I scrapped my knees out last night and they felt great today
  • I pressed with an axle today. It felt so much better
  • I want to do more single leg work so this was an easy way to get it in. Starting slow bc it’s mid cycle with 2 more workouts
  • RH helped my hips so much. All the sitting is taking a toll
  • Pullups are decent especially because this is the heaviest I’ve ever been (Like 195 or so)
  • It’s taking everything in my soul not to order a sandwich from my favorite spot near my house
  • @T3hPwnisher I saw your conversation in @simo74 s log. Is this too aggressive of a touch and go?

Other vides from today:

Edit: last night, i did some the couch stretch but against the wall and focused on contracting my glute. Along with some seated figure 4 stretches, my legs feel brand new

Are you doing ROM progression too?

Nah. I just saw what you said about touch and go so I figured that applied to all touch and go heights

Ah, no no, that was specific to the context of how I train ROM progression. I don’t do categorical imperatives. Kant was silly, haha.

Some awesome pull ups dude! Inspiring stuff and perfect timing for these videos! The ROM you do is my goal!

@T3hPwnisher I can’t call Kant too silly considering I walk the same route for the same amount of time almost everyday haha

@DJoftheJungle1 Thanks for the kind words! I’m lucky in the fact that ROM has always been there for the some part

Conditioning:

1st- .62 miles

  • Didn’t time. I was doing this with the dogs but because I have my moms dog too, it was a clusterfuck so I just walked the rest of the time
  • Walk was like 40 minutes or so

2nd- .54 miles (5:04)

  • Yeah I suck at running lmao

Notes:

  • I’m thinking about just banging out a mile everyday before my walks. Got do something to get better
  • I did get a cheap pair of barefoot shoes. They are a little more padded (with the sole) and still thin/flat so they are actually really good for running. I can step on rocks and not get stabbed
  • I think I’m going to go to a running store and see what they have in the way of running shoes. I’m on the fence about getting a pair of thicker running shoes but much like squat shoes, being in them for 1 or so hours when I’m in barefoot shoes the rest of the day shouldn’t matter too much

Check out Altra’s if you can find them. I had a couple of pairs and really like the wide toebox area.
They have different options for sole thickness and cushioning but all zero drop.

Xero shoes are also amazing just pricey for me from Canada but they have some options if you don’t want any cushion and still the wide toe box.

Yes. This. Shoes are important. I always buy 2-3 pairs of past season of the ones I like to keep them affordable, but be prepared for $150+ for decent ones. Topo, Hoka and Altra are my favorites, in that order.

In a rush today so I’m posting the raw training log. My handwriting is not as beautiful as @davemccright

This year I’m shaggy

Notes:

  • I do feel like the whole 531 thing is working. I thought 250 was going to be 6 reps but then I cranked out 9 solid reps. Overall I’ve been feeling really good on it and actually using a low TM on the lower body lift is feeling great
