I made that thread last week about wanting to get huge, being a skinny guy. I did my first workout at the gym yesterday, but it was on machines. Leg Squat, Lat Press, Back Row was all I got into. Was actually confused about HOW to use some of the machines, and didnt want to look like a jackass.(although with these frog legs, I’m sure I already do) I didnt find out until I was wore out that there was another room downstairs full of all the free-weights I needed.
Today, my thighs are still SORE AS ALL HELL! I figured they would be better after I slept, but no. Is this going to be a continuing trend, or will it eventually go away as I get bigger? Is there anything I can take to help with it?
You will find that it’s worse 1 to 2 days after your workout. Start light and build volume and intensity gradually. (Too late, eh?) Work out frequently. Throw in a light workout between the heavy ones if you have too. Work through the pain if you can. It will get better.

Just wait until you squat hard for the first time.

I still remember the day after that first squat session . could hardly walk ; gettin’ up off the can REALLY sucked .
and the next day was WORSE YET !
dont sweat it though , you will adjust to it…in time .

I remember my first squat, and my first snatch session. I leaned against the wall going down the stairs at school, and had to take breaks haha. My shoulders and hips were so sore the first time I did snatches.

Another killer is car pushing. Once you sit down don’t even plan on getting up for a long time.

I remember the first time I squated. I figured it was roughly equivilent to leg press, so I went heavy! Loaded up a plate and a quarter… Probably did about 1/2 squats, for a few reps. etc. Didn’t warm up (stupid, yes).
I remember the first time I did tricep kickbacks, it was really hard to pop the collar on my polo and give brad a high five after his sweet beer pong shot.

hahahaha
To the OP: Yes. You will be sore, if you eat right, sleep smart, and have good genetics, it won’t be too bad. In my opinion if you aren’t sore, and you want to be making gains, you didn’t do enough.
There are still days where after I do legs stairs are the enemy. And the when I first started the OL, all I wanted to do was hunch over , but I couldn’t my back was so stiff.
Perfectly normal/routine – after a while you’ll get used to it and it won’t bother you as much
Try to move to free weights ASAP, machines are OK for general conditioning if you’re just starting out, but transition to real weights after a couple weeks.

hahaha! First time I squatted real heavy I spent two days laying in bed and sitting in a chair – literally couldn’t walk.
I did minor stretching beforehand on my arms, but nothing for my legs. Won’t make that mistake again! I didnt know where to start, and there were two other dudes in there. Therefore, I decided it was a good idea to start the leg squat with three plates instead of just one as to not look like THAT much of a wuss.
When I go in tomorrow (well, today in 7 hours), I’ll just walk past that machine room and try out the power rack. I’m doing the Strong Lifts 5X5 Beginner Strength Training Program.
Am I supposed to do 5 straight Sets of each exercise and move on to the next, or Do I do 1 set of each exercise and keep switching until all 5 are done for all exercises? I kept seeing this guy going from a few exercises on 2 machines and moving onto the free weight room and going back and forth between the two, so I’m wondering if I’m doing the program wrong.
Typically it is five straight sets, then switch exercises. You would go back and forth if you were super setting, and I don’t think you have a reason to do that.
Always don’t give a fuck about what other people do. First off- most people lift terribly, secondly- it isn’t a contest. Even when you lift competitively, it really yourself you are trying to beat.
Know how I know who to ask to spot me? Not the biggest person, but the person who has the best form. That is far cooler than lifting lots of weight. So make sure your form is good.

I thought you were serious for the first nine words of your post which made it even funnier.

Like Lucid said – fuck everyone else in the gym (I’m usually waaay to busy/focused to pay attention to other people, even women). Bodybuilding is like Formula 1: what good is a racecar that does 200mph if the driver has zero control? Proper form is everything, you will EASILY gain a ton of mass when you have it mastered.

Either way works, he was doing supersets (great way to add variety/fatigue to your routine).
Have fun man, and remember it’s about challenging yourself and NOT competing against others
