Do You Have a Personal Mantra?

when I’m in a sticking point or trying to break a PR, I ask my self “how bad do you want it?” and it focuses me. And then my family motto “Audentes Fortuna iuvat” ~ fortune assists the daring.

Damn it feels good to be Irish.

“don’t be a pussy”

“F*CK IT”

My familly motto is “Tante Que Je Plus”.

It means “All That I Can”. Can’t say I ever look into the mirror and say “All that I can, all that I can.” or anything. That would just be sad.

Is that supposed to be french? If so then these four french words together dont make any sense

My peronal mantra is ‘‘The less things you own the freer you are’’

Yep - Occam’s Razor works pretty well with Dethklok titles and lyrics.

Cookies and beer all around.

Fixed that for you.[/quote]

Thanks!

Funny thing that you did that- I get this attitude from my pap. He was from Ayr, Scotland. A man of very few words, but many deeds.

Your avatar is outstanding.

Always wear nike’s and JUST DO IT.

Go Hard or go Home!!

I tend to think alot, and can talk myself out of stuff. Act now think later.

“A couple two tree”
“I’m going to fart on your pillow and give you pink eye!”

Those count?

I’ve never understood the love for Latin sayings. It’s fucking stupid. None of us speak Latin, it’s a dead fucking language. Bitches just being all dramatic and shit.

“Whoever smelt it dealt it.”

This is a great quote, It fits nicely with weight lifting. It not only takes big heavy compound lifting to get big and strong but attention needs to be paid to the small stuff to.

If not for Latin and Kanji, what are people supposed to tattoo on themselves? Commonly spoken English?

Keep fuckin that chicken.

Seriously though : You only lose when you quit trying.

whenever i’m not up doing something that i start i repeat to myself “it’s better than starting over” until the job is done. or “it is what it is”

The person i have to beat is the guy i was last week.

Inches.

I think of every little seemingly insignificant decision I make throughout the day as either an inch forward or an inch backward. I constantly remind myself about the inches.

“On this team we fight, for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves, and everyone around us to PIECES for that inch! We claw with our fingernails, for that inch! Because we know, when we add up all those inches, that’s gonna make the fuckin’ difference, between winning and losing! Between living and dying!”

I don’t know. I was told this as a teenager and I’ve always remembered it.

“No Roger, No Rerun, No Rent!”

So do y’all kinda stare at yourselves in the mirror whispering this stuff by candlelight, or what?

I mean, quite a few of them are good quotes… but, a lot of these bring to mind some over-the-top, comically dramatic imagery when thinking about people using these quotes to psych themselves up.

Maybe if this thread was more along the lines of ‘Words to Live By’ I would find it a little less amusing than the idea of mantras.

If it works for some, that’s great & all. Whatever it takes people to get through & over their PRs…

Myself, when I’m under or over the bar it’s simple. I try to be mentally “alone” as much as possible (despite the gym being packed) & repeat a few times -

“You can lift this”

Works most of the time

Along the lines of mantras or “gym sayings” one of my favs is “Right now some little girl in China is warming up with your max”
