Div. 1 Football Player

My friend recently asked me to come up with a nutritional program and supplement program for him. He is the starting quarterback of a Divison I school and is playing in a bowl game at the end of December. Basically he said “take my debit card and order everything you think is good”. I’ve got the nutrition thing down. Any suggestions on supplements. I’m thinking Grow! (3-4 packets daily), Methoxy-7 (4 servings daily), and possibly RiboseC (2 servings daily). Also, I think he could and should do an Androsol and Nandrosol stack. He’s looking to gain about 15 lbs. or so in four weeks. This would only be about 10 lbs. heavier than his weight at the beginning of the season. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

That’s a pretty fast weight gain, so much of this is going to come down to diet. Grow! would help there a lot. Have him drink a couple of shakes between regular meals and after practice/training.

As for the other stuff, if he’s allowed, I’d put him on a stack of Androsol, Methoxy-7, and Ribose-C. If he can afford it, Power Drive before workouts and games would be great too. (He won’t gain weight directly with Power Drive, but he will perform better and have more productive workouts.) After the Androsol, he may want to take Tribex-500.

Remember, if he is playing in a bowl game–he is getting drug tested. Iftaken close enought o the game the Androsol will show up as testosterone and if taken at all Nandrosol has the chance to show up as Nandralone for up to 12 months. The detection times are simply not known at this point yet. Be safe and have him do tribex, methoxy, creatine and Androsol as long as he is off for a long enough time before the game. Glutamine isnt a bad idea either as im sure he is going throuigh tough practices and can use the extra recovery–it always helped me. He will also faila drug test for an ECA stack or MD6 just in case he is taking them as pre-workout boosters or pre-game energizers.

I’m not sure about the NCAA, but 4-androstenediol is on the IOC banned list. Since the clearance rate of the topically applied prohormones has not been determined he should stay away from androsol. Nandrosol is out of the question, the threshold level for detection of all of the nor derivatives is miniscule and he would almost certainly test positive.

I would not recommend shakes a week before game day. I have found that with my athletes perform better on solid foods, Performance wise that is. I think there is a higher oxygen transfer to the muslces the less insulin is in the blood, and liquid meals still have a greater surface area. Stick with all low glycemic carbs, fruits , vegies, Steel cut oatmeal, and healthy fats, . MY ALL time favorite pre game meal is 8oz Salmon, and 1 cup steel cut oatmeal cooked, and 2cups vegies. 10 lbs of muscle in 4 weeks will not help your friend. Speed and Explosion or more important in football, Having big guns wont do anything and the 10 lbs he would gain would most likely be water and increased glycogen. Which would intern slow him down water=weight, thats why sprinters don’t eat carbs before races

well i think you want to have him taking some sort of ZMA supplement, because from the studies i’ve read almost all athletes are deficient in magnesium, zinc, iron and copper and a few other trace minerals. branched chain ammino acids are an other supplement you want to have him on. have him take them before workouts, during workouts and after workouts. i would recommend the pill form since they are a bit easier to use. poliquin recommends a few good places to buy them from in his columns. along the lines of ammino acids you also want to give him some glutamine, which helps protein synthesis (as the branch chain ammino acids do). he’ll want to take 30-70 grams of glutamine a day. fish oil capsuls would also be helpful, and they will reduce his bodyfat a bit and dramatically reduce his LDL cholesterol (the bad kind) and increase his HDL cholesterol (the good kind). Acetyl-l-carnitine, 3-7 grams per day would also be good. the main thing that is going to help him out is getting a liquid meal in his body after every workout containing about 2 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight and 1-2 gram of carbs per pound of bodyweight depending on the volume of work done in the workout (more work depletes the internal glycogen stores of the muscle, meaning you need to ingest more carbs to replenish this). Watch out for taking all the supplements all at one time, space them out over the day. the intenstines can only absorb so much at once. try to space out the glutamine and branch chain ammino acids, they will compete for absorbtion since they are both ammino acids.

I would have him use, ZMA, Grow!, Powerdrive, Tribex, Methoxyl, Ribose, md-6 and Androsol.

Nothingx–are u suggesting a post workout shake at 420 grams of protein and the same amout of carbs? I hope not–thats what you wrote but it may be a typo–sounds a little too excessive to me but we are all intitled to our opinions.

no, sorry i had a lapse of temporary insanity. i ment to type .5 - .8 grams of protein per kilogram of bodyweight and 1-2 grams of carbs per kilogram of bodyweight.
