Does anyone have any advice on zero calorie condiments? All ive been using is dijon mustard and that stuff gets old pretty damn quick! With regards to the cheat meals, I read a thibs article where he states the leaner you are the more often you can cheat (i.e- near 10% you can cheat every week) so thats probably got something to do with the weekly treats
MAF14, at one point were you very overweight or have I got the wrong idea? Sorry if I have, just from the way you have written about difficulties getting lean etc…
i need to find some 0-cal condiments myself… but yeah i used to be 270 llbs. you can tell by the stretch marks. gained 70 llbs in a year and a half during my mid-teens - read that putting on a lot of fat during puberty makes it MUCH harder to get rid of. idk how true it is but seems pretty to make sense to me.
Walden Farms condiments. They have sweet and savory. Think Shelby even included them in one of his automated emails that were going out for a while warning of email account problems.
I like their salad dressings, pancake syrups, caramel dip, and bbq sauce.
Hot sauce is another 0 calorie product that is pretty versatile. Not sure what you guys in the UK have as far as brands but at leat over here Frank’s regular hot sauce is 0 calorie, it’s the wing sauces and the odd flavors that you have to check the label on.
My days vary largely dependent on what’s been on sale, if top round hit a good price I’m going to eat a lot more of it… when I make a good dish like the fritata I might eat that several days in a row etc. High days are typically either chicken+rice or chicken+potatoes(regular or sweet), sometimes ground turkey or egg whites in there but 4-5 chicken meals. Low days are usually 50/50 between chicken and top round, a LOT of veggies and almond butter… oats or potato for the carbs.
Today I was on vacation for a wedding so my day was a bit different… I didn’t travel with my fish oil
Chicken+ezekial bread+peanuts, asparagus
Cottage cheese and some peanuts on the side
Steak+broccoli+green beans+peanuts
(at wedding reception) grilled mahi mahi, mixed veggies+more green beans. I didn’t add fat here since I am sure they cooked the fish in oil
Steak+broccoli+green beans+ peanuts
last will probably be chicken+asparagus and some… peanuts.
Not an ideal day as a few of those are supposed to be oil instead of nuts but it’s the best I could really do, I didn’t eat any dang cupcakes or appetizers.

Yeah, I have heard that fat cells reach their “set” number around puberty and dont change much from there, just gotta keep at it though and youll get there. I had a similar thing with gaining weight, probably gained 30lbs in a couple of months when I was around 23 (Shitty eating habits, beer, no excercise at all). Heaviest Ive ever been was 240 (6’0 tall). Down at 225 now and going for 190’s or 180’s depending how I look when I get down there.
Loose skin is a worry, I dont know how likely it is after fat loss but guess there isnt much you can do. Any of you guys have an issue with loose skin (apart from sidewalkdances)? Is it possible to lose 50lbs without getting it?
Drico - some stuff we can get in the UK that works are the Nando’s dressings - they are sugar free. A few cals but its from pulsed down veggies. Worcester sauce, balsamic vinegar. All work pretty well. What caused the gyno dude? AAS or just natural gyno. I cant see why you cant have fish oil etc, its not like they’d stop you eating oily fish! But as you said, always best to follow Dr’s orders.
MAF - I put on a similar amount after my old man died, in under a year. Thats what caused my loose skin, as I was heavy to begin with (I started that ‘bulk’ around 260, got up to 336 at my heaviest!) - its a running joke with a friend of mine now i’m lean, that I did a 20 year dirty bulk with a two year cut.
I might have a look at how much it costs to ship Walden Farms stuff, perhaps order them and next time I order my protein powder get the lady who ships it for me USPS to throw it in the box.
Definately hoping for another cheat meal this week, although i’m still holding a couple lbs of extra from last week. Big session in the gym tonight and I should see it drop down like last week.
Thanks for the input bud, Ill check out some nandos sauces on my way home tonight…a few cals from ingredients like that isnt a huge deal to me right now and itll definitely help with my diet boredom.
Im gonna double check with my doc about the fish oil again (Ive recieved written instructions and its in that) and see what he says. As jolopez mentioned its a blood thinner and anti inflamatory so I guess there is the possibility it could mess with the healing process a little. The gyno I have is from puberty and is pretty much puffy/sticky out nipples from the gland with some fat there as well.
The fat will go but the gland wont so I decided to get that shit cut out. In the grand scheme of things I guess its not that big a deal but I felt self consious in some tshirts and the hard work I did on my chest didnt show. Ive been pretty lean before and the shape of my lower chest doesnt change becasue of it so I decided it was time to do something about it. Going to see cosmetic surgeon here in London whos pretty highly rated so ill be happy to see the back of it.
I actually emailed walden farms a while ago about shipping costs etc but they never got back to me…Might give them a call and see what the story is. Anything will be better than Dijon at this point!

Also, I would love to know how you guys eat day in day out. I pretty much eat the same old bland shit becasue I know the macros but I cant really see that being suitable in the long run…
My day pretty much looks like this (excluding oils etc);
1-Breakfast shake- Protein and Oats
2-Tuna and Sweet potato
3-Chicken and salad
4-Protein shake
5-Top round and vegetables
6-Shake before bed
What do you guys do to make things more interesting? Are your days much more varied than mine?
Looks pretty much the same. Only so many ways you can shake things up.
1-Oats/protein
2-Top round/rice
3-chicken/green beans
4-ground turkey/rice or chicken green beans
5-fish/green beans/1 pickle spear
6-protein
Sprinkle the fats in, EVOO and PB. I do want to get some macadamia nut oil next time I order from BB.com.
This is week 22 for me. I have not ate one thing off my diet yet(other than him telling me to cheat). I just bring the food with me wherever I go. Holidays/Wedding/bach party/countless bbq’s and b-day parties. Throw the shit in a cooler and go. I did skip a couple meals in the beginning, but have never ate any extra or strayed from his list of food. I even ate cold potato and chicken out of a zip lock bag in my truck before going into a restaurant to join my family for my dads b-day. I told them to go in without me, I gotta eat real quick.
The only thing I crave daily is carbs. Its really getting rough on that aspect. This isn’t boring food for me, I have been eating this way for years now. Obviously not this strict all the time, but I like the food I am eating and can eat it day in and day out.
Small update - Down to 192.4 for me. Got my carbs cut in half again this week. Down to 35 grams on med days and 15 grams on low days. Yeah yesterday for breakfast I had 11 grams of oats for a whopping 7.5 grams of carbs. hahaha. Its like just pull them out completely already, its not even worth the effort to measure this shit out. My next meal is steak and rice and I had to measure out 22 grams of rice to get my 5 grams of carbs.
Good luck on your surgeries guys. Hopefully its a speedy recovery!
I used to be jealous of you carb eaters. But instead of 20gms of carbs here and 30 gms of carbs there, I prefer the no carbs until weekly one hour cheat meal. That has worked wonders for me. I was doing calcs last night. In 110 days, I have lost over 28lbs. Averages to about .25lb per day.
With carb rotation, I was losing average 1lb per week. No carb has me at average 2 lbs per weeks. 3lb loss this week.
My reward for the extra loss was orders to “pig out” for 1.5 hours. Couldn’t make it past 1 hour. Messed up when I had dairy. That caused bloating and pain.
As for you guys talking about being overweight - try topping out at over 360lbs. That led to some serious skin issues. Still dealing with it.
I would definitely rather do no carb and have a scheduled cheat meal every week. Its a little tougher mentally to “wonder” when the next one will come, all while eating less and less carbs. For me the sweet spot was about 150 grams on med days and 60 grams on low days. No cravings, plenty of energy, couldn’t care less about cheat meals.
And yeah, when I get told 1 hour, I usually make it about 30 minutes and then lay in pain for the last 30 staring at the food on my plate with anger that I cannot enjoy it. Its not even that much food, I really do think my stomach has shrank.
Im in the 150g carbs on medium days and 60g on low days zone at the moment. 50 mins cardio per day, every day.
Having real hunger issues at the moment, nothing is filling, even with a decent amount of food. Coupled with the fact that today is my last chance for a cheat meal for a LONG time with the surgery coming up as it’d be stupid to have a cheat meal when I cant train for an indefinate period.
Scale officially hasn’t budged this week. 182.4 up to 189 and then back to 182.4 over the course of the week. Update has been sent. 1 week out.
Beaul - that sounds barely worth the effort of eating the carbs!

Mmm carbs. I’m up to 90g a day now. Trying a lean gain period see how it works!
Beaul you’re splitting your carbs like that? Why not just have one larger carb meal a day. Pre or post workout.
A lean gain period sounds like a nice break and should help with a little mental relief. Hopefully that will get the fire burning again and you can back them off and lose the rest of the fat.
Yeah that is what I wanted to do so I asked the boss. He said no, just keep the carb meals timed the same and cut them in half.
I am thinking its to keep insulin lower. Because 35 at one time would spike it higher than keeping them spread out. By how much? I have no idea. That is the only reason I can think of.
If he wants me to have 5 grains of rice and 2 grains of oats at every meal i will do it. What ever it takes, i have 100% confidence in the system. I will be ripped to shreds, whether it takes the whole 12 months or not. At this point I am angry at myself for keeping my bodyfat so high in the first place.

Yeah, it’s probably a good thing to go in without a huge cheat meal.
I went back and tried to find if you mentioned this, but couldn’t. How long do you think you will be out of training for? How long will you be bed ridden? Hopefully you will be able to at least start a little cardio soon after. At least low days wont be too hard since you wont be trying to train hard.
Also are you going to be adjusting calories up a little for surgery recovery? Or just keep them where they are at and still send in weekly updates?
i just went from 30 grams carbs/day to zero carbs/day and im already seeing improvements (mainly in my arms). im getting that weekly cheat meal now but i have to wait two weeks before i get my first one… FML.
hmm maybe if i make ‘too much’ progress this week ill get one…

Now that you are at 0, did you add any green veggies to the previous meals that had carbs? or just drop the carbs so now all you are eating is protein at those meals?
Yeah, just work hard and it will pay off with a cheat or new levels of leanness.
Ive been working with shelby for around 10 weeks (doing the 12 week progressive plan), its been great reading this thread as I know where alot of you guys are comming from!
So far ive gone from 250 to 224 and from a high bodyfat level to around 14-15%. My goal is about 10% so I will have to continue dieting after the 12 weeks.
here is my basic diet:
m1: protein powder + oats
m2: same as m1
m3: chicken + almonds
m4: chicken + almonds
m5: chicken/tuna + oats
m6: chicken/tuna
very basic but it hits the macros and works for me, less carbs on low days… How do you guys make all those fancy meals, some of those foods are not on the approved list?
I must be making decent progress because im still getting near 200g of carbs on medium days and 100g on low days.
