Diet for Dummies?

Gents, I know enough to get by in weight training. Whatever I don’t know, I go to the body biulding forum… I am a dummy when it comes to diet. What diet is best for gaining lean muscle mass, and staying lean? I guese i need a high protein, low carb… What should I stay away from?

I would honestly say (Without seeing your stats) that you need not go too low carb.
Low-carb can really make you feel weak and dizzy when training hard and heavy.

I would go for about 4400+ calories per day
Keep Carbs in moderation around 200-300g per day, and always take your Fish Oil Supps. Get 1.5g of protein for every pound of body weight.

Try to get most of your carbs before Noon, and most of your fats after workout.
This has yielded the best results for me.

Always include cardio! Atleast 2x week.
Use this in conjunction with a good program like 5X5’s an dyou’ll be gaining in no time.

As far as what to eat, just use common sens and keep it clean. No fast food, junk food, etc…
DO’s
Chicken (Not fried)
Turkey
Beef
Pork
Cheese, Cottage Cheese, Yogurts.
Protein Supps (Good to use a Meal Replacement Type IMO)It yields extra calories
Veggies, the frozen bags work great just put them in a 1/2 in of water in a pot and boil them taste gret and great for you.

Any specific questions just PM me or post here and I’ll do my best to answer.

Also see my post “First Cycle Diet” in the steroids forum to see an idea of a good clean diet.

Best of Luck!

Have you read the numerous articles on this site outlining diets and their specifics? If you have, then you probably wouldn’t be asking this question or calling yourself a “diet dummy”.

Different articles do advocate different approaches, and a lot of them are geared towards more advanced lifters. I would say that the best place for any beginner to start would be with a 40/30/30 carbs/protein/fat approach, and work from there. Other than that, learn to read food labels, and use your common sense. Any idiot knows cheese fries are bad for them, and that you don’t need dessert after every meal.

Thanks guys

I agree with your thoughts. He stated that he was knowledgeable about weight training and used the “Bodybuilding” forum for the information he doesn’t have. I found it odd that in the case of dieting, he didn’t use the same approach.

I know that there are many advanced diets on this site, but plenty that could help a “diet newb”. I do, however, feel that to many posters ask questions on these forums that are easily answered by articles and/or posts but they seem to not take the time to research.

You will have a much larger bed of knowledge by reading 3,4,5 articles than you will asking “what should I do”.
