I Know Nothing About Supplements

Hey,

I’ve only read about 5 articles over all on this site about nutrition. I just wanna lift and get huge, dammit! Anyway, my diet as of now, has NO supplements or “protein shakes” of any kind. I just read the Post-workout articles by John Berardi.

So far, I’ve just come home and eat some healthy food. Hell, when it comes to carbs and amino acids and whatnot, you could be talking brain surgery because this simple/drunk mind just doesn’t care about it. All my life I’ve always heard “man, you need to fuckin eat candy bars and lift”, and now I’m finally starting to eat more. Now, I’m hearing about all of this “science” shit.

Can I get a simple breakdown of what the hell I’m supposed to do for Post-workout?

Just for an update if anyone may care, here’s what my daily diet consists of on a work-out day:

After getting to sleep at 4am, I wake up at 10 am:

Fix up 4 extra large eggs, 3 round slices of sausage, 2 slices of toast spread with natural peanut butter, 2 servings of oatmeal with either apple or orange slices, and two glasses of milk.

I then head to the gym about an hour later, and do my Strong Lifts 5 x 5 strength training program.

When I get back home about 30 minutes later, I eat either just a banana or 2 slices of bread with peanut butter, and 2 glasses of milk.

Then, I go to work. On my first break at 6:45pm I eat something along the lines of a serving or two of spaghetti w/ meat, or some roast beef or some sort of sandwich. This is out of the work vending machines, so it’s iffy. Sometimes there’e jack-shit in the thing, on such a case I eat a bbq chicken sandwich, which isnt that big. I need to start taking my own meals to work, I know.

At lunchtime at 9:25 PM, I go home and have 2 breasts of chicken, a serving of veggies and a serving of cottage cheese with two glasses of milk. back to work.

At my final 12:15 AM break, I have just an apple and a small serving of milk.

I get off work at 3:00AM, and head home to eat a meal of another 2 chicken breasts, mashed potaoes/white gravy, Cottage cheese, and 2 glasses of milk.

After this I go to sleep. I know, I’m missing another snack in my routine, but I’m not seeing where to fit it in.

I Didn’t intend on turning this from a supplement advice thread to a heres-my-diet-help-me thread, but it happened.

Simple breakdown for post-workout: Surge Recovery as directed on label. (Look to the right for a link to the product.)

Look, you can eat whatever diet you want, supplement or not, ignore science or pay attention to it—it’s up to you. The question is, are you happy with the results you are getting?

Monitor your progress. Make a change (like adding Surge post workout) and see if it makes a difference. For me, it definitely does.

Those should get you on the right path. I highly suggest reading the nutrition articles first, as you’ll learn how to compose a proper diet. Then, after that, read the supplementation article. Once you grasp the concept of supplementation (which is, get this, to supplement your diet), you should find out what supplements to buy/take/love.

Those articles should be stickied to the top as required reading before posting in this forum. Would probably reduce the amount of repeat questions/threads on this particular board.

Agreed. Do you know how many times I’ve posted these in a forum? They need to be stickied here and in the Beginners forum, if it hasn’t been already.

Only hitch is that most newbies don’t seem to notice the stickies.

And then…:

I noticed that in his original post, too. If he’s not going to help himself, all the diets and supplements in the world won’t help him. He doesn’t seem to care; it appears that he’s just looking for the shortest of shortcuts.
