Diagnosed With Pericarditis

Hi everyone,

Last Thursday I was diagnosed with pericarditis, given some diclofenac sodium (AIs) and sent home. I was told it should be gone within 2 weeks.

I’ve done a lot of research on the condition and found that it effects bodybuilders/athletes quite often, and I was wondering if anyone who has experienced this has any info for me on how they dealt with it.

When I asked how this would affect my training, different doctors have told me different things, ranging from “train as much as you feel you can, but be sensible” to “nope, none at all”.

Don’t get me wrong, I can handle taking 2 weeks off, but bear in mind that this diagnosis came straight after I had already taken 2 weeks off due to a fever and general shittiness. If I take the next 2 weeks off as well, that leaves me with no training for basically a month.

I have been told that pericarditis is largely stress related, and I know for a fact that not training for that length of time will stress me out completely.

I know people deal with much worse, and I’m not complaining, it’s just that I don’t want to lay off training completely when I may not have to.

Any info anyone?

Many Thanks
Dave

I love how the cause of most peridarditis is unknown… Can’t really help you but I would stay away from strenuous ex for the next couple of weeks. Weights should be fine but ME work and supersets etc should possibly be avoided IMO…[/quote]

Yeah that’s my thought also at the moment, to maybe go for sub 4 rep training with 2/3 minutes rest so I don’t get my heart rate up too much.

Thanks for your response, much appreciated!
