Nope, your legs aren’t toothpicks, either.
They aren’t toothpicks, but I’ll admit they do lag compared to my upper body, particularly my hamstrings.

You look like you must be over 230 if you are 6’. Those are some great beefy arms, man!

My thoughts exactly.

I’ll bite. After taking some time off due to nagging injuries, family and other parts of life, this is the result from Jan 1st to April 1st this year. Here is the before.

Cortes, ball-busting aside, you look phenomenal.

Do you stay that lean year-round?
Thanks! Pretty much, yes. I am a bit smaller now, but I hit my sweet spot a while back, which is around 215. Too much bigger than that and I start to feel like hell and my sleep apnea becomes unmanageable for both me and my wife.

I did NOT stay this lean for most of the years it took me to get to that sweet spot, and I am definitely NOT genetically gifted. It took a lot of hard work and drugs, haha.

demonthrall; good work my friend. Do you mind telling us how you went about on your transformation?

Pat, for all the problems you’ve had with your injury, you have kept a really nice frame and lean physique. Hope you can finally get all that fixed, I can only imagine what your full potential is.
X2, Pat. And lets forget 40. You’re doing great.

Cortes, I was all proud of a couple of little blue lines running down my hips until I saw yours! Just wow! Inspiring.

Coyote - Nice OHP! You have great shoulders and taper to your back. Way to represent.

Nice job, everyone! These threads are my favorite. It’s so much fun to see everyone’s progress. I’m in the last couple of weeks of my first cut since I stopped running and started resistance training about 2.5 years ago. I will try to get a couple of decent pictures up soon.

I don’t feel like taking a shirtless photo, feeling fat and deflated. But I’ve lost 10lbs since my last picture. SO SUCK IT.

^^i wanna party with you.

Thank you. I went from 240 lbs to 199lbs. In no particular order here is most of how:

-I stopped frowning

-I tracked calories and macros through livestrong.com

-I carb/calorie cycled, with high carbs on training days, low on non. Every day had carbs/protein for breakfast no matter what. I won’t kickstart my day without carbs, its not worth it.

-I aimed for under 2200 calories on nonworkout days. Workout days I tried to keep it under 3000. As long as the calories met those guidelines, I considered it a successful day. Inside of that, training days were protein/carb meals only. Non training days were protein/fat only, save breakfast. Carbs were usually under 100 on low days, and over 250 on high days.

-Once a week I allowed myself to have a 4000 calorie day, consisting of anything I wanted. All pizza if needed. I usually pigged out for one meal, then felt guilty and was good for the rest of the day.

-I trained 4 days a week, usually around 9 or 10pm. Monday=Chest/Tri, Tuesday=Back/Bi, Wednesday=Rest, Thursday=Shoulders/Arms, Friday=Rest, Saturday=Legs, Sunday=Rest.

-I kept most sets between 2-6 reps.

-I did 30 min. of elliptical, fasted, after a cup of coffee, 2-3x a week. I only did this for the first month or so.

-I cooked once or twice a week, filling several large tupperware containers with food, as well as individual meal sized containers for grab and go. 90% of my meals were microwaved.

-I chewed gum all day long. Fights hunger, burns calories. Strengthens your jaw too.

-I allowed myself to have a few light beers before bed on low carb days , as long as I had calories left to eat at night. 2 light beers at 100 calories a piece, with only a couple carbs, went a long way towards keeping the keel steady.

 • I spent 15 minutes every night after the gym before showering, posing in the mirror. I consider it NEPA.

-I always worked out in a tank top and shorts. No matter what shape I was in, It helped to look in the mirror and see small changes while working out. I could never get the same motivation while looking at myself in a sweatshirt.

-I changed my ipod mix constantly, wore it every workout.

You look great btw in your double bicep pic and I dig the beard

Thanks! Once I grew it, I couldn’t get rid of it. Everytime I tried to shave it, I was met with mass protest. Which is only a testament to how scary my bare face must be.

I agree with rack comment, nice lift too. I dig chicks who put weight racks in their bedrooms. That can only mean good things

I’d say not bad for 40…
Damn, Pat. From what you’ve said about your back, you sounded like you were half crippled.

You look damn good, sir.

I have back issues too, but not like yours. Props for keeping on.
Thank you… I am half crippled, but only half. So I train the other half…

Seriously though, the thing about a gym environment is that it is controlled. So I can limit the stress on my back while still managing to lift.
And yes I do squats, albeit gingerly and not to heavy. The doc said I am structurally sound. The problem is that he damaged the nerves in the actual lumbar muscle and hence the source of the swelling and pain. But structurally, I can lift.

Gracias… Oh, if I could shake the back pain, I would be going insane… I’d say I am training at about 60% of my potential. Of course right now, I got the flu from hell.

Yeah, I thought I was doing good and then he had to post. Of course, Mighty stu may pop in and show us all up…

And she has a rack in her bedroom! That alone brought a tear to my eye…If I weren’t married… Well then my wife would kill me, but that’s another story
