This may be a newbie question, but on 5/3/1 is it ok to reset between reps? Most times I cannot crank out a big bunch of reps without resetting. Any help?
What does the book say? It’s in there.

Unfortunately too broke to buy it. Hope to see the full deal some day. Can you clue me in on what it says? Appreciate any help.

You said that you can’t complete a bunch of reps without rest. Resetting is not resting. You shouldn’t be getting any rest from your reset. I just want to make sure you aren’t resting between reps because that would basically screw everything up.
reset = fine
Rest = bad
Crap, nevermind, I read your first post wrong. I thought you said that you rest between reps which is bad.
Because some people are weak off the floor and therefore need more work for that part of the DL?
I like to use “rest”/pause on the heavier sets.
1 rep
“rest” 5 seconds or just long enough to reset. But don’t reset too long.
Repeat
I always reset… Touch and go works ok for pure back work sort of, but it always ends up with me being weak off the floor… And it seems easier to lose the arch, so I don’t do it…
Dead Stop works just fine for 5/3/1.
I always reset. Mostly because i tend to get sloppy with touch and go. Both will work.
I’m a big fan of touch and go like the video above shows. I’m not working in the 600 x 5 range yet though :(. (currently in the 280 x 10/11 range).
Touch and go is a lot easier from deadstop. I cannot imagine anyone doing top 5/3/1 sets of 8+reps resetting the bar every time. Resetting also makes my lower back feel not good for 5+reps.
I always use deadstop reps. I feel my form loosens too much with touch/go. Plus touch/go makes it easier. However, I do feel that touch/go will benefit as well because you are moving more weight for more reps, which in turn will build bigger muscles. I just dont see it having a big carry over to a comp. dead. because in comp. you are pulling from a deadstop, so I always trained that way.

Opposite for me, gives me time to get my setup good again.
