DB Rows- 175lb x 33 Reps

I can do 120x7! I’m close!!!

That boy has a strong back.

New vid of Kroc’s deadlift- 655x5

The guy’s built like a fucking tank.

Jesus fucking christ. “His form isssss not perfect.” Why don’t one of you critics try to pull a 175 pounder off the db rack? Write us when surgery’s over.

I love the internet!

wow. matt is a fucking beast, that goes without saying.

what i am more amazed at is how strong so many of the rest of you are at this movement.

i think i can compete with most on this board with the big lifts, (300lb push press, 600+ dl, 500+ squat, 300lb cleans, ect) and i cannot even come close to the weight you guys are getting to on this exercise. maybe it is because i dont do them very often, but the 100’s are heavy for me, 10-15 reps and i am cooked.

wtf?

I would say your form must be verry verry good

LMAO. I knew someone was going to say this. From the linked video I saw this one:

with a dude doing 500 for 4 reps. Among other things, he is accused of using poor form and steriods. (Because, of course, if only the guys weighing 150 lbs. used steroids, they’d also be able to bench 500 lbs.!)

I seriously think people who post what Edders posted should be banned. They obviously have nothing to contribute.

Do these people at least buy supplements here? If so, then I understand not wanting to alienate customers. If not, then why are people like that allowed to exist here?[/quote]

I like this one even better, after this buddy does 462x8 with ease some guy responds with “He did it with poor form. Each rep was done far too fast. It’s simply showing his muscle fibers are merely fast-twitch.” Oh dear…

not sure what you mean…

I normally don’t do Db Rows but as this thread is usually on the front page in this forum I figured I’d see what I could do.

Heaviest DB where I work out is a 160lb’er. So I chalk up and grab it. It moves but not what I’d call a full range of motion. So I re-try with a little swing-age barely got it too my body.

Definitely respect 175x33. I don’t know if I could do 33 reps with 100lbs.

I mean you probably have strict form because from your pictures and your lifts you have a strong back

I can do 115’s x 15 roughly but my form isnt the best if I used better form I wouldnt use near as much weight

It is just shocking that people can knock that performance.

2 x 175lb – 350lb.

I bet some of you doing the knocking can’t even deadlift that once, almost certainly can’t deadlift it 33 times, and as for rowing it I won’t even go there.

I usually only respond in the Westside thread but I get so sick and tired of hearing people nit picking someones form. If you’ve been around the iron game long enough, you will find that that super strict form will only get you so far in terms of mass and strength. A little body english can make all the difference. you can still have control of a weight and use some english at the same time.

I use that movement about once a month and work up to the heaviest dumbells we have (140’s) for a set of 50. but you can bet by the end i’m using some “english”.

meat

Kroc mentioned in his training log that he got his bar to hold up to 200lbs and now he’s going to see what he’s made of! His two big issues are finding weights, apparently the bar is 1/16" wider and also it has a thicker grip…should be interesting…

Deadlift video link

The deadlift video is up now. Thanks to my training partner Mark Schott for his help in getting these videos up.

We had to cut the end of the video short a little since I got a little too excited at the end and let out a few expletives that I don’t want to have to explain to my kids.

I’m wondering what kind of advice the Muscle & Fitness educated, spandex wearing, pencil necks will have for me. I’m sure they will spot numerous flaws in my technique.

that is one bad ass deadlift video

You probably answered your own question. You don’t do them very often, so you’re not(relative to your other lifts) very good at them. Seems reasonable to me, right? As in: I don’t do overhead squats very often, so my overhead squat is not that great.

i hope that is the reason i suck at these(dont do them too often), i am feeling pretty damn weak right aboot now. i think i am going to start working with them every weef for a while and see what happens.

fucking sweet!

175lb peanuts for 33, great lift.

LOL, the troll patrol always has something to say no matter what. To hell with them though.

I think a lot of people understand what you’re saying. Anyone with eyes knows he is a strong dude. But your original post had no context. You said something like those were NOT rows, and his form sucked.

Well, if your coaching a beginner to do a dumbbell row, than thats probably not how you would coach it. Do you think that the way HE did those would be injurious to HIM? Do you think HE derives NO benefit from those?

I hate to sound like an E-retard by capitalizing some words, but you get my point. Elite lifters have different bodies and movement patterns than average joes. Look at an elite deadlifter pull, and you will see some rounding of the spine. But that doesn’t matter because they are using a tremendous amount of hip and upperback strength to do the lift.

So, you can criticize his technique (even if your less gifted), but until you fully understand how HIS body operates and the stressors he is under from this movement, your opinion on the issue is worthless.

I can take an introductory biomechanics class and watch Michael Johnson sprint that 200 he did in Atlanta (I believe) and criticize his running technique, but my opinion is useless because I have never approached those velocities or competed at that level. Get my point?

In short, it’s not apples to apples, his form didn’t suck for him, it was a great video, and if more people could row 175 pound dumbbells the world would be a better place. ahaha

yeah, obviously if he did them the way YOU would teach, he would be jacked, as is he is pretty average.

btw, he has a RAW 700lb squat, deadlift, and 500lb RAW bench. damn. imagine where he would be if he just listened to CW or CT and followed some of the routines posted here at T-Nation.

Oh wait a second…did I say he was strong? Yea I did.

yeah, haha, i got you. i usually do not jump onto comments like yours, i am just old enough to know about the way things were before the INTERNET(echo effects).

we(myself included, i trashed the Phil heath video of 225lb bench press 46 times) seem to like to find fault with just about everyone and everything.

as far as the dynamics of this site goes, i doubt that even a guy who looked like cave-man, or frank Zane, who could ass to ground squat 1000lbs like fifty times, AND was a proven lifetime drug free guy, would get some criticism from somebody.

no worries, true his ROM was a little short, and he did use a little “body english” like somebody else said, but he is a very strong guy.

i don’t nut hug too much, as i have been around the iron game for a while and trained and been around some world class strength athletes, and i don’t impress too easily, but form what little i know(read/heard) about this guy, i am pretty impressed.

a world class lifter who also has substantial RAW strength, does not adhere to any particular training dogma(he does not follow a traditional westside template even) and has great success in his personal life, (family man, a career as a pharmacist is think).

whatever, just my opinion, it is as worthless as the next guys…

Actually, I’ve been reading this site for a while and I have great respect for your opinion, unlike a few of the others who posted on this thread.

And I’m glad you agree with me:

true his ROM was a little short, and he did use a little “body english” like somebody else said, but he is a very strong guy.

And if some of the others would reread my original post they would see that I said essentially the same thing.

but my opinion is useless because I have never approached those velocities or competed at that level. Get my point?

You make some good points in this thread, however the above statement is misguided. To coach a top athlete you do not need to have competed at the same level as that athlete, which is what your implying. If that was the case, athletes like Johnson, Tiger Woods etc could never be coached because they’ve hit levels in their sport nobody has ever been before.

Think about Charles Poliquin. He coaches top athletes in a variety of sports, yet probably hasnt competed at the top level in any of them!

As far as the video goes. Very impressive
