Cycling

Now, I’ve read alot just today used the search and all but i cant seem to find anything on biking or cycling.

My question of course: Am I able to get any tips from anybody on anything?
EG: What I should drink, workout patterns for the legs, etc etc.
Just wanting tips thats all.

Mate, you would really do yourself a favour if you went out and picked up Lance Armstrong’s cycling book. Not his autobiographies but his training book. It has plenty for beginners through to advanced.

Also your question is not very specific. It’s like asking, “Can you guys tell me anything about weight training?”

Without explaining your goals and etc it is like asking “How long is a piece of string.”

There’s a thread called “Road to Kona” or something similar. Anyway, the guy writing that thread might do a little bit of cycling from time to time…

Straight the hell up. Could you be any more vague? What should I drink? Workout patterns for the legs? Just hop on your bike peddle til you’re tired and thirsty then drink some damn water!

D, your pretty much right. I cycle, but not as much as some friends of mine (they compete). All they do is ride, I am talking about 20 hours of saddle time a week. None of them are close to competing in anything big. Most professional cyclists don’t lift any weights, until off season, and they can’t ride the bike because of weather outside.

no kidding.

dude go get some experience doing things, especially doing them wrong, then a “tip” will actually mean something.

in the meantime like the guy said above go get lance’s book and do it. that should keep you busy for a season anyway.

or you could , horrors of horrors, show up @ a bike shop for one of their rides. that would mean you’d have to actually ride with live people, be slower than them, and find yourself off the back. do you think you could handle being dropped by a bunch of skinny road geeks doing bad phil liggett impersonations ?

Actually, I think I’ve seen that book before. When I get the money i shall go and buy it too see if it helps me with the biking thing.

Or you could try to find it at the library.

the whole book is pretty much a rag except for the middle part where the programs are.

I could help you out but you need to let me know what you are looking for. When you figure it out shoot me a PM and I’ll check back to the thread.

I’d be happy to help out with your questions.

What Trigwu said.

When you say cycling - do you mean road biking, cross country mountain biking, BMX etc…? You’ll get 180 degree opposite answers depending on what type of riding you’re talking about.

There was a thread on here a year or so ago called “Training an Elite Cyclist” or something similar. It had a link to an article that described the training program of the Australian track cycling team and will give you a good idea about how to do the leg training. Note that if you are into endurance riding then the training will differ as these guys were all about power and speed.

There have been some threads about endurance cycling, usually when the Tour de France is on, I think that last year’s thread had a lot of stuff about how Amstrong trained.
