Cutting With Alcohol

Lets face it, i’m a college kid and the hardest thing to give up other than women is my precious alcohol. I’m 6’3" and about 180 pounds with 10-12% bodyfat. I’m trying to get under 10% and stay there. I was wondering if anyone can help me with incorporating a diet where all my carb intake is from alcohol. When i go out (about 4 times a week) I tend to drink around 7-10 beers (770-1100 calories) I was wondering if my cutting phase could include normal eating on days where i don’t drink and then just protein and flax (5 shakes 3 shots about 1000 calories) on days that i plan on drinking. Any advice would be helpful. Can this be done?

No, you’re stupid.

More power to you if you can get away with this. I might mention that, first off, the average beer (can or bottle, not some little glass at a party) has well over 110 calories as you figure. Beers like Amstel Light and Rolling Rock might be in or below that range, but most beers are at or above 150 calories. Also, I believe having more than 3 alcohol units kills your testosterone levels.

ha, your kidding right! No? You know your t-levels will probably be about the same as the girls your trying to get with. 28-40 beers a week. if that is your only source of carbs those are some pretty shitty carbs. your workouts would definately suffer from it. i’d say rather than giving up carbs completely, why don’t you cut back on the booze some, maybe to once a week, and then eat a more healthy diet where you incorporate some good carbs.

I am a former boozecan myself. If you do insist on drinking 4 nights a week, I would forget about attempting to cut your bodyfat levels. This is because alcohol is the greatest t-suppresant on this planet. You might be able to combat this by spraying with Androsol on the days that you go out boozing. Also, trying to get all your carbs from alcohol is a terrible idea. I’m assuming you drink light beer, so in a night of drinking you’re getting ~50 g of shitty carbs, along with ~100 g of alcohol, which has 7 cals per gram. Not a good way to improve one’s physique. But hey, college is a blast. Have fun while you’re there, but you have to decide what is more important to you: having a great physique or getting blitzed 4 times per week.

I know you won’t want to hear this, but just keep your drinking to the weekends. My nutrition would always go to shit on the weekends anyhow so add beer and being hungover and it was a mess. I don’t think I would try and cut if you were going to consume an empty 1000 calories 4 times per week.

First of all, that’s no solid food on your drinking days, which will give you the runs like a mofo. Second, no you will not be able to do a cutting phase drinking like that unless you’re a genetic freak. If you’re drinking that damn much, you obviously aren’t trying that hard to cut fat. The term “beer-belly” came about for a reason. I think you’ll eventually have to choose between getting fucked up all the time and getting in shape.

are you serious?

man, i think most people will probably ignore this post rather than flame you…

…a true alchie in the making…

Like you said Michael, lets face it, at 4 nites a week and 7-10 beers each, you have no diet program and cann’t possiblely control BF% while bingeing every week like that. They only way to control BF% is to cut all unneccessary calories and all the junk and if you’re not willing or don’t have the discipline it takes, you’re fighting a losing battle. You cann’t have a LEAN and MUSCULAR body by going on a drunk 4 nites every week - it will catch up to you eventually - why do you think they call it a beer belly? By the way, you’re at your prime age right now for building a lean, muscular body but you’re throwing it all away so that you may enjoy being drunk 4 nites a week. As the years go by, it will become harder and harder to achieve your goal - especially after abusing your body over the long term with that much beer every week. Of course getting drunk is a lot easier than building a lean muscular body. Cheers!

Bad Idea!!! If you truly want to get lean and keep your muscle, put down the bottle! I just recently graduated from college and didn’t make true gains until I quit drinking. Now I understand that college is about drining and partying and collecting girls panties…SO I say live it up, but at least cut down your drinking to 2 nights a week. You figure that’s about 2000 less calories a week you’ll be getting, which is about 1lb every 2 weeks. And make sure you taking some kinda T booster on days you do drink,(ZMA,Tribex) to keep your T levels as high as possible, because alcohol makes them crash.

Hi,
Finally, someone to follow in my footsteps. I too am a college (dropout) and drink obscene amnts of alcohol on a day to day basis. (6-7 days/week/ 24 beers/day). As a matter of fact, virtually all of my calories come from alcohol. I eat beef jerky and take multivitamins though. Most mornings when i get drunk I eventually retire to my backyard and lifted weights and do sit ups. My secret? Copenhagen and cigarettes ! I think the large amounts of nicotine act as a fat loss catalyst and appetite suppressent. Itr also helps to stope the “spinnies.” Well anyway, I’m 6’ 190 pounds and 4 percent bodyfat. Fuckin sweet. Good luck, dude!
hope this helps

also why not go wiht straight hard alcohol on drinking nites…

On a related note, I’m thinking of becoming a crackhead. Now, I still want to look buff of course. I figure I’ll lose all my teeth and have to sell my furnature to support my habit, but I’m going to try to hang on to my blender, a nice cardboard box to live in, and live off cheap ass 5 pound whey products. Is that Optimum stuff any good? My crack dealer sells it too so I figure it’s gotta be da shit!

Let me start off by saying DRINKING WILL MAKE THINGS MUCH HARDER FOR YOU! Woah dont stop reading yet man - harder doesnt mean it cant be done. I drink ( a lot ) 3 nights a week and am currently cutting down. I have dropped from around 9% to around 6% in the past couple of weeks w/ out dropping much on the scale (170 down to 165). The way I have done this is (besides the drinking) by being extremely anal about my diet. I dont get as much enjoyment out of the pizzas, cookies, and cakes that most incorporate on their cheat days as I do from going out and getting hammered. My carbs come mainly from oats and veggies my fats from flax, fish and naty peanut butter and my protein sources vary from beef, eggs, cottage cheese, tuna, chicken, and powders. My diet is roughly isocaloric not exactly (40/30/30 p/c/f). On days I drink I drop calories from carbs some and slightly increase the percentage of my cals coming from fats. I lift with a pull/push/legs routine MWF and incorporate HIIT on TThSa. This may not be the most optimal way to do things but it makes me happy. I have no interest in being a giant or making this my career. As of right now their is no contest I am preping for (though I may one day choose to do so). I have been able to get results while incorporating 2 things I like. I forget where I read it but “bodybuilding should enrich your life not inhibit it”. So do what makes you happy. If not drinking makes you happy then good for you congrats on being true to yourself I am happy you are happy and I would never say otherwise - but to the people knocking us for our concious decisions because they differ from theirs - Fuck you! Good luck man, you can do it.

Over 6 and under 200 = unacceptable…Bulk instead of cut…also it can be done if you really do wish to do it (cut with beer) as long as you are unbelievably disciplined during the week. However as you are unwilling to give up alcohol i find it quite difficult to believe that you would be. Maybe you should cut back on the booze to maybe once every two weekends…or at least drink shots instead of beers.

OK- so ripped abs and paper thin skin aren’t going to happen BUT- I’m here to enjoy the process too !! Let’s say you only end up looking like a wrestler or football player . .ooooooo how dissapointing (sarcastic tone to you all)
I drink 3-4 beer everynight but I also eat tons of lean protein, veggies, protein powder, a decent vitamin/ EFA mix and on/ off Mag 10 . .so my waist is 34 not 32 but I’m a strong, beefy 225 pounder at 6 foot . .strong, functional and enjoying ALL OF LIFE . .a cold beer, a good workout and a great woman . .
Yeah- you’re going to have to decide what you want but I’m happy right here . . CHEERS !
Mike D

Oh wait, you said you go out four times a week and not one? Well then NO, you can not do it and there is no way that you will ever be cut nor will you truly look good unless you learn moderation.

You’re 6’3 180 & you want to LOSE weight? LOSE weight by drinking beer?! Why don’t you gain a hundred lbs & then try to lose some fat? You’ve got to be joking.
