Really great fucking idea. Why don’t you just throw some vodka into your post-workout Surge? Alcohol is a vasodilator, so I’m sure it would open up those blood vessels and get the whey and carbs to your muscles ASAP! I wish this silly goddamned post would magically fade away into the archives…
First off, alcohol calories do not count nearly the same as normal cals. The easiest way to see this is to pay attention to the normal results of my month long fat loss programs i put clients on-the clients who drink an extra 1000 cal 2-4 times a week get way better fat loss results than those who eat an extra 1000 2-4 times a week.(just so you all know, drinking is not recommended in my groups, but i work in a college town so its a common cheat) Another disclaimer-pre and post measurements are taken many days away from drinking so dehydration is not a factor.
My experience is this-a drinking night will cost you a day of dieting, while a food cheat meal will cost you 2 days. So if you drink 4 nights you will only get an equivilant of 3 days of usefull diet per week. If you add a late night trip to taco bell onto two of those nights of binge drinking youve wasted the entire week.
Drinking can be incorporated-but please eat solid foods, please get extra sleep-you need alcohol recovery sleep plus your normal amount, and please continue training.
What it comes down to is it takes more discipline to succeed on a diet incorporating drinking. This gets frustrating because you are still denying yourself all the pleasures of food, getting less results, and feeling worse than if you just didnt drink.
You probably need a minimum of 1600 cal before drinking and this is an absolute minimum that could probably only be maintained for a week or two before shutdown occured-so give up on the 1000 cal idea.
Good luck,
Josh
And let’s not forget that too much alcohol really kills your ability to recover when sleeping. So, lower Test, poor recovery, empty calories, crappy workouts… yeah, you’re gonna look soooooo hot!
This might sound kind of amusing to some people, but if you simply switched to hard liquor you’d avoid a LOT of unnecessary calories.
Honestly, being of college age myself the past few years, when friends were around a lot I would drink a fair amount…it was never for long enough stretches to really hinder my fitness goals. That was always how I qualified it…if it fucked up my lifting, I’d cut back. Otherwise, I think there is something to be said for enjoying your youth ![]()
Careful on the excess drinking, though…try not to make it a life habit.
Its been about 20 minutes and I’m still cracking up about the vodka and surge comment. Good times.
I can’t believe that you were dumb enough to actually ask that question! You have two choices: Train and be healthy, and look good or Drink beer four nights a week, make no progress and look like a complete jackass! grow some balls, and make the right decision!
Vodka is the least poisonous of the alcohol drinks, lses side chain alcohols, so I’d switch to that
You said 'a cold beer, a good workout and a great woman ’ thats A cold beer not ‘a cold beer once per hour for 6 hours’
On a related note I cant seem to gain any mass, does any one know how a crack addict might gain mass?
a crack rock, a good workout and a Ho .
I thought college was for learning.
Jack and Diet Coke
Which college did you go to? Sounds pretty boring.
This is the most hilarious post/thread I’ve read in quite a while. I’ve had people coming into my office the last 10 minutes asking me what was so effing funny. Rock On!
Went to culinary school, and no one parties harder than a bunch of culinary students, but 4 times a week? A little excessive and you can forget about decent gains in the gym or classroom.
Okay - beer as carb loading/intake. And that means you’ll need some cocain as your pre-workout “sniff”. Y’know we all might be on to something here. “The Idiot’s Guide to The Drinking and Snorting Workout”. But seriously, dude - women like me (and we’re the women you are trying to impress) - will only laugh at idiots like you. I mean, you’re not really serious about this, right?
Fair enough! 4 times a week truly is excessive. I prefer to limit myself to once a month tops of heavy partying, even though I am still in school. I didn’t mean anything negative by my comments, it was just a little sarcastic jab at you. Those culinary parties must have been fun, you guys must know how to mix some pretty stiff drinks!
I really think you might consider the fact that you may have a drinking problem, if beer is so important to you that you’ll re-arrange your life so that you can contenue drinking. Let me say this also, not only does alcohol turn down the T, but also inhibits protein synthesis, ie no muscle growth. But if you must do it, go the lower calorie route. Drink grain alcohols (gin/vodka/etc)…you still get drunk, and typically less calories than beer (b/c of less carbs). And this doesn’t mean Red Bull’s and vodka…those red bull’s alone have 150-170 cals each (plus vodka). Try a 12 step plan, dude.
nahhh. we like shots. But show up to class but showing up for class with a burly hangover when you got to break down 60 whole chickens will cure most partiers in hurry. Makes for a real rough day. Its good to throw down every once in a while but every week is stupid, 4 times a week a problem.
how did this quwstion make it past the moderator? unless he wanted this poor chap to get lambasted and was offering him up to us as an appetizer? kevo
Drinking rules to succeed in getting lean,
1)Drink no more than 2 times per week
2)only light beer or clear liquor and diet mixers
3)no eating after drinking begins
4)get an extra 3-4 hours sleep beyond your normal amounts on drinking days
5)get up and eat breakfast and drink assloads of water at normal breakfast time even if you have to go back to sleep
6)cut your calories by 1/2 the amount of calories you plan to drink on the day prior to the drinking night
7)vitamins, minerals, etc-search here, theres alot about this on this forum-do a search
Follow these rules and you can succeed, youre gonna feel like shit though-enjoy not being able to feed away the hangovers.
You can cut down on your alcohol consumption for one thing, you’re kidding yourself…quit trying to analyze and make the decision to get in shape healthfully…it’s like smoking cigarettes then going for a jog, defeats the purpose… On the other hand, a few beers here and there isn’t bad… Grab a few extra buckos out of your pocket and opt for a decent WHEAT beer, the Belgians brew a few good ones. Most domestics are made with cheap ingredients, like corn filler instead of wheat. You won’t need to drink 7-10 wheats to get your desired effect either. Beyond that, try making a decision, to get in shape or party all the time.
Just curious, how are your grades Michael?
