Cut and Then Bulk?

Do you guys think it makes sense to cut down to about 5-6% body fat in hopefully a month or so, than try to slowly bulk up but maintain abs and hopefully 7-8% body fat. (current i have approx 9-10) If so do i go aboutt his by slowly increasing my calories but also maintaining a good amount of cardio?

thanks

Slowly bulk up to 7-8% bf. Are you serious?

ya… by eating healthy and trying to obtain muscle mass without gaining too much fat… if u have something to say say it dont criticize.

Yeah if you want your 5 lbs of new mass to come over the next 3 years or more.

The cut, should never be before the bulk…it’s counterproductive.

I lost a good percentage of BF AFTER my 2 year bulk in a matter of a couple of month of restricted calories.

my problem is i have a fast matabilism and i have a small frame. I have been weight lifting for 2.5 yrs or so, and prob for a good yr i been eating 4-6 fairly healthy meals. Usually about 2900+ calories. However i hardly gained any size but i gained some fat over my belly, so idk what i could have been doing wrong.

I am 5’10
155 , 18 y/o

I think the reason you havent added that much is possibly that your still a boy so your body is still developing. If i was you i would do WS4SB and eat and eat and then eat some more .

And you want to CUT!!! INSANE.

If you do that, then you’ll look like a heroine freak.

Please get to 200 at least BEFORE THINKING of cutting…but do this only if you wish for MASS.

Read up on bulking around here. A few points of fat won’t hurt.

Your idea to cut to 5% right now is terrible.

Asking this question then giving stats of 5’10" and 155lbs with a fat belly makes me wonder if this post is even serious.

If this is a serious post and you really are aware that this is a bodybuilding site I would say gain at least 30 or 40 lbs before thinking of cutting if you want to look somewhat muscular.

OMG this should be great…runs too get popcorn

By the way bulk first and if you haven’t gained its not because of a fast metabolism.

The number of people like this is why at 17, at 5’10 and 165lbs I was comparatively musclely.

I was in the same boat 7 months ago. Only I weighted 180lb at 5 10. Im also 18. I was thinking of cutting then start gaining muscle. Tossed that idea out the window. Gained 25 pounds in a few months and my bf% dropped in the process.

At 205lb I started cutting, Now at 190lb the difference in definition is already huge. My lifts went up too. Don’t make this mistake man, its a huge waste of time…especially if you’re at 155lb.

ok thanks a lot guys, so i will try to bulk up as best i can before deciding to cut. THe thing is my stats r misleading, thought iam 155, i look around 170 , my legs r really skinny. My quads r much thinner than normal so my upper body doesnt look like a twig and has some definition.

DO you guy recommend taking creatine monohydrate while i try to bulk up?

Yeah it sure is posible.

Here is a kid that was only 5 pounds heavier than you and went on a 2 year bulk.

Those are the kind of results we all respect.

Follow that example and blow us away in 2 years.

Without exceptional genetics, I think your plan is actually IMPOSSIBLE.

You’re talking about getting ripped before you’ve built any muscle mass, which is similar to expecting an NCAA scholarship without even playing high school ball.

This is untrue, he could cut down to nazi camp size and then over the next four years he could gain 1lb of muscle 1lb of fat a year, for a grand total of 4lbs muscle 4 lbs fat and 7 percent bodyfat.

What a ass backwards waist of time.

I wouldn’t say NEVER…if you’re a long time fat boy, and at 20% bf you may not want to start bulking…maybe you want to cut to 12 or so.

But come on, you’re starting at 9%?? Bulk, baby, bulk. End when you gain 20-25 lb.

Look… there’s nothing wrong with wanting to stay lean, but trying to stay too lean will almost certainly hurt your progress.

The goal is not to try to get fat, but understand that some fat gain will accompany optimal muscle gain. I am not nearly as experienced as some others, but I have found my best gains to come at the point where my abs are blurry. I guess this would be in the 13-15% body fat range.

I feel like many others have found this to be a good point as well, although obviously others have found different points that work better for them. Going up to this range ensures that you are eating enough to support muscle growth, but is such that a few weeks of dieting will have you “beach ready” with ease.

All you teenagers obsess too much over your abs. 7-8% BF will show your abs very well. There is no need to get to 5% unless you plan on competing (please don’t for God’s sake @ 155).

If you are 5"10 and 155 right now I can’t imagine you being more than 12% BF. I would go on a long bulk phase and when you feel you have appreciable muscle mass, then you can start your cutting phase.

You can probably see at least your top 4 abs, if you do a clean bulk, and you are very smart about it you can sustain a reasonably low BF%. You will gain some fat but it’ll be worth it in the long run…

What about doing some squats and deadlifts, when your legs is so small? Not only will the legs grow huuuge, the upperbody will grow huuuge too. 2 heavy squats, 1 heavy deadlift, each week, together with a bucketload of food every other hour, will be damn fine and will make you be a strong motherfucker.
