Curing the Imaginary Lats Syndrome

Man that video is great!

All too common in my gym not to be hilarious.

MID

Never seen this before,

this is fucking ridiculous. Well this is in the same “family” as Douchebags and “the bathroom guy” :

I recall watching one of those crime/homicide documentaries years ago. On it, a guy who had a real physical problem putting his arms down to his sides all his life had been mercilessly ridiculed in his childhood. Everyone taunted him by calling him “Popeye” for his unusual walk and posture. As an adult, he was a rather stocky figure, and still walked with the arms out and away from his body. One day someone called him Popeye and he just lost it and killed the name-caller.

When the police arrested him, he was unusually polite, well mannered, soft-spoken, and completely cooperative.
My guess is the immense pressure of all those years of teasing finally vented itself in his killing of that one unlucky taunter.

lol at this^^ its exactly what I was gonna say

The cure: get arms that are so large and massive that the force of gravity will keep your arms from unconsciously raising laterally, keeping you ILS free.

Note Kevin Nee has some crazy muscle imbalances, as most world class strongmen do

I walk like that too. It looks like I’m trying to flex but my arms are angled like a Trex and have a small but noticeable bend at the elbow. I can fully straighten my arm, its always slightly bent…

Yeah, I see that often in guys who ignore triceps work to focus more on biceps. It is usually a muscle imbalance that causes that. I remember mine used to do that when I first started training. It stopped when I started training RIGHT.

I saw yoou replied to me and braced myself for a drop curl joke.

You’re right though, I’ve only this year started doing actual arm work. I figure its one of those overuse things from all the pulling people towards me.

I was being completely straight up. I ONLY see that in guys who mostly only train biceps or ignore direct work for BOTH muscle groups.

What are some other things you notice and are usually the bigger imbalances?
Too much biceps to triceps
Too much pressing to pulling
Too much other shoulder work besides rear delts

Do you have any more…as well when training these are you using the same amount of sets/reps if it IS in a fairly balanced state…or would you err on more pulling instead of pushing cause most activites in everyday our arms are forward and what not.

dayum at the hooters girl at 1:46

I gotta buddy who anytime he sees someone at the gym doing that he tells em “quit carrying those fuckin buckets!”

Maybe I’m just trying to not have my armpit grind against itself???

Hahaha this reminded me of a guy at my gym who has a strange habbit/tick. Every 30 secs or so he touches his armpit region and kinda squeezes his chest lol. He does this ALL the time even when not in the gym.
I never noticed until someone told me and now I cant help but notice everytime I seen the guy its so funny.

Well maybe…

his armpits are sweating and instead of feeling that annoying little sweat droplet trickle/streak that starts at the pit and can end at the waistline, he decides to absorb it with the shirt he is wearing. I could maybe see someone doing that every 30 seconds.

I am guessing you have bad internal rotation of the shoulders, which is causing your elbows to stick out. If that is the case, there are some old articles on T-Nation on shoulder health; but a good rule of thumb is to pull more than you push, and focus on your upper back.
Thanks. Wouldn’t it be bad external rotation though? Because when your elbows stick out, you arms are in an internal rotation position, therefore the muscles that work during external rotation aren’t strong enough to pull your elbows in.

Are guys like you on the right forum?

What was hostile, out of line or aggressive about that post?

Do you know how weak you have to be to really run around taking offense to everything like that? How do people like you even make it through a day if THAT was “hostile”?

excellent vid and also a funny story from Akuma!

I see this mostly with younger men who are perhaps excited at having some muscularity at last and want to make the ‘most of it’. I saw a kid, about 18-20 i guess, some time back storming through a mall in a tank top (of course!). It wasn’t that he had no muscles, he looked modestly athletic/muscular, it was the ‘hard man’ expression and the arms out, as bad as in the video, it looked like a joke except i think it was for real. Needless to say the looks he got probably weren’t what he hoped for.

I wonder what happens to an ILSer when they walk past the real thing? (maybe akuma/prof/others seen it from the other side…)
In my experience, they suddenly react by Flaring their traps up and tilting their head back, while attempting to get my eye attention by nodding at me. Le sigh…

I thought it might be something like that at first or an itch or something, but I really doubt that there is any trigger for it because he just does it so frequently and doesnt seem aware that he even does it.
