I’m sorry but I agree with Pwnish3r. The guy is clearly trying to cash in on his fame and it’s working. Ya’ll just sound upset, but to trash his credentials is absurd like he’s just some gym rat… It’s like you don’t know anything about the man’s past (he’s a powerlifter) which should be obvious seeing as I barely know anything about the guy, just what I’ve learned from a couple of his 2 minute videos. How about you throw up a bench video, SirTroyRobert? Here is one of CT in his prime:

When I say quarter squat , I mean loading the bar with weight that the person can’t even get anywhere close to where you’re going in your reps. CT literally just bends his knees slightly. Which is fine, but he calls that a squat and all his clients and people in his videos do the same. So I assume they must watch him and do that. In my experience, I’ve gotten much stronger and mobile from learning to do squats with more ROM. But, everything is goal specific, I compete in powerlifting, so I always try to get full ROM. Wasn’t trying to offend anyone.
I wasn’t trashing his credentials. I stated many times I respect CT very much. He’s very strong, and is motivational. I was just pointing out that he is charging 2500 dollars for his new cert. If you take offense to this I’m sorry. But I’m 18 and did my first powerlifting meet and posted it in the powerlifting section. I can link it if you’d like. My lifts in that meet were 405DL/295squat/205bench at 135lbs. It’s been a month since that meet, and my lifts are now 430 deadlift, 330 squat, 220 bench at 138lbs. I have videos of those also that are not uploaded to youtube, but if you’d like I can upload them and share them.
As I’ve learned in my short experience lifting in comparison to many of the guys here on TNation, the biggest and strongest guy may not know how to get you to be as big and as strong as him. Taking advice from Jay Cutler will not make me Jay Cutler. Some people are far superior to others in terms of genetics. I’m not one to cry about genetics because I have been gifted with pretty decent strength genetics in relation to my size. All I’m saying it’s not the greatest argument to say someones more qualified than another just because someone may be bigger or stronger.
As I previously stated, I’m not saying I’m better than CT or stronger, I’m simply pointing to the facts that his certification costs 2,500 dollars. This is 4-6x more than what most certs cost. Make of it what you want. Just giving you the facts, you can interpret it.

I actually compete in powerlifting too, which is why I was curious about your thoughts on the matter. Do you feel like I should switch back to full ROM?

Went to the gym before work today and a kid there brought up Fletcher in casual conversation. Not this specifically, just some of his training ideas. The guy’s obviously fairly well known and is trying to milk his 15 minutes. In a year or two he’ll be a forgotten YouTube hero so he might as well cash in while he can. You also gotta understand his target audience is 15-24 year old morons with more (of daddy’s) dollars than sense.
You would think someone who’s trying to milk his 15 minutes of fame would be a little more subtle. The amount of money he’s asking for is ridiculous. I’d hope that people would realize this is obviously just a way for CT to get some money, but as I stated before, people are sheep.
The market sets the price.
If people are willing to pay then its basic supply and demand.

Yup. Like I said earlier, it’s just smart business on his part.

I just hope he invests it wisely or starts a good pyramid scheme, like Advocare or XFit. Wouldnt that be interesting to watch.

If you have been getting results without full ROM and it works for you then I see no reason to you. Just in my experience the full ROM has helped me more in my training. But I really believe what’s best is unique to each person. Someone once put it to me this way… In school, you learn many subjects that may not relate to your actual interest and or majors, much of which you may see as pointless.
Although these things may not translate directly to your field, they build your ability to learn and in essence build the work load tolerance of the mind. Physically, bench press, squats, and deadlifts may not be the exact movements performed by an athlete in their sport. In football you don’t ever push someone at the angle you do on a bench press. You don’t jump from the bottom position of a squat and so on. But , the training still translates and improves performance.
I know in competition I only have to squat just below parallel in order to get a good lift. But building a wider ROM than I need can’t hurt the way I see it. But as I said, just my .02. What’s best for one is certainly not best for all, and each person knows their body better than anyone else.

I am definitely inclined to agree with you. However, with this perspective, I find your original statement about losing respect for people that quarter squat out of place. Surely, as long as it means they are meeting their goals with their training, it is a viable and valid method, no?

I think it was just the packaging of the contents and not the contents themselves that turned him off. At least that’s what I gathered from his posts. It’s apparent to me that when you do partials, you provide a frame of reference. I don’t watch CT’s channel anymore, so I can’t say as a matter of fact that he doesn’t, but he probably doesn’t.

Sorry about that, let me clarify. What I meant by “quarter squats” is when someone puts on too much weight that they clearly cant handle, and do that thing where they bend their knees over their toes a little and call that a squat and then say ,“Oh I squat 405 for reps.” My original statement about losing respect for people was badly written on my part. I should have clarified. It was just an ill advised comment by me.
This is what he means(and what basically every person means) when they say quarter squat in a negative and judgmental way.
I know that geared lifters sometimes do quarter squats legitimately with some heavy ass weight much for the same reason they do board presses, but that’s clearly not what he was being detrimental about in his post. This is such a silly side discussion.
Is that really what CT fletcher does? It’s been a while since I saw one of his lower body videos, but I feel like I remember them being lower than that.

I have no idea, I just wanted to clear up some of the confusion that spawned this side topic.

It actually added to my confusion honestly, because when hearing that CT quarter squatted, and then finding out that this is what we are considering to be a quarter squat, and then finding out we don’t actually know how he squats, these just seem to be random statements.

I meant your initial confusion/speculation that you might be quarter squatting, and that OP was potentially calling you and people who train like you out on your squat form with his statement of “It’s hard for me to look up to someone who does quarter squats… I cringe everytime I see someone doing them.” Clearly you do not quarter squat. No issue need be taken.
Eagerly awaiting further confusion caused by this post as well.

I actually didn’t mean to imply that I felt he was calling me. I didn’t feel that way at all, I was curious what his advice was on the subject, and if he felt I should do it.
I feel as though you were confused about me being confused, haha.
