You’re honestly one of the biggest reasons I started doing them, thanks! Excited to see how they drive my normal squat up.

I did my very first front squat today, just to see what the hype was about. I’m ok not doing another.

My hope is that it’ll carry over to my back squat enough to finally bag 405, but we’ll see what happens. My front rack feels surpassingly fine for never really practicing it until now.

Any particular reason you’re not a fan of the movement?

I’m just messing with you. I don’t have a real opinion. It’s nothing I’ve actually trained.

Plus, I did it with an axle bar so that was a bit more uncomfortable than necessary.

Impressive PRs.

Stair-Climber: 100 Floors in 17:57 (5 seconds shy of a PR)

Started at my 150-floor pace for the first 50 floors, then decided to try and beat my 100-floor PR. Came just shy of it, but gaining back that much ground after doing the first half of the session way too slow was still hard work. Can definitely snag the PR here with better pacing.

Seated Press: 4x3@170 (PR,) 1x190 (PR), 135x11/6/3 (RP, PR)
Incline Pin Press: 145x5/5/5/4/5
Pushdowns: Full Stack + 10 x12/7/4 (RP)

Another “didn’t sleep and showed up when the gym opened” day, which makes an already very good performance even more noteworthy. 190 was a fucking fight to get up, but the rate I’m increasing at for this lift is pretty crazy. Taking all three reps of the triples off pins now for consistency’s sake, and it honestly doesn’t seem to make a huge difference.

Shrug w/ Squeeze: 5x8@315
Incline Curls: 30x10/5/4, 10 (Hammer) (RP)

Forgot the actual belt part of my dip belt at home (the chain had been poached off of it earlier today for ulterior reasons, and I wrongly assumed that I left the belt half in my bag when I did so) so I had to jerey-rig together a “belt” out of figure eight straps, a chain, and a carabiner. Still got my reps in.

Squat: 3x330, 2x340, 3x1@350, 8x320 (PR)
Leg Curls: 130x18/9/6 (RP)
Leg Extensions: 170x18/9/6 (RP)

This is my favorite day of the training week, to the point where I’ve caught myself saying that I “get to squat today” rather than “have to” or “am squatting today.” It went well, and I’m looking forward to building that backoff set up to ten reps again.

Good gosh, man—I’m running out of things to say to all these PRs!

Training had definitely been going well for me lately. Able to walk out most days with some sort of PR, which is about all I can ask for lol.

$20 to anyone who can come up with an answer to why 6AM no-sleep bench sessions keep feeling so great other than “you’re getting stronger.”

I’m getting stronger btw.

TPWiaB W22D2: Front Squat

Front Squat: 4x3@250 (PR,) 205x10 (PR)
Leg Curls: 175x7/7/6/6/4.5

Front squats are getting easier as the weight goes up for now. Realized that the week I got back to college (Aug 19th is the actual date) is a Deload, which is quite convenient.

Haven’t talked about my job in quite a while, but it’s going great. I’ll be presenting some policy research on our lobbying ethics law to the executive next week, and it’s cool to know that the elected leader of a 1,000,000-person jurisdiction has time blocked out of his schedule to see the recommendations I’ve come up with.

I’ve started putting our job applications for next school year (I have a spot waiting for me tutoring again when I return, but I’m seeing if I can find something a bit more career-development-y,) and once I get back to school I’ll start sending out applications for Congressional internships over Summer 2024. My plan is to make two complete sets of admissions materials so that I can tell both the deep-red Alabamans and deep-blue Marylanders what they want to hear, and effectively double my chances of getting someone to bite. Which says a lot about how I prioritize personal ideals Vs job opportunities lol.
