Well, if they were getting methadone in liquid form I could see where this would be a problem. Crushing pills and dissolving them and filtering it through a medium like a coffee filter or something wouldn’t typically cause that unless the particulate can pass through a filter which is possible, depending on the quality and purity of the drug.
It’s because methadone and it’s counter parts do not deliver the ‘high’ part, or much of the pain relieving part for that matter, so taking it is basically arbitrary except to stave off dope-sickness. The idea is to move to a non-enjoyable version of the drug and then ween. It does take a bit of will power of course, but I have seen it work. If done correctly and people have the proper incentive to get off, methadone can work very well. They just keep tapering you slowly until the dose you take is so small you start forgetting to even take it and then you basically off.
Here it’s called Suboxone, it’s a mix of buprenorphine and naloxone. What it is actually designed to do is block any creative ways of taking the medicine. So if you try to snort it, inject it or do any other kind of craziness, the naloxone blocks the action of the drug and it doesn’t work. There is an unfortunate side effect of naloxone is that it doesn’t exactly work as well as intended and when taking it, the naloxone can block the buprenorphine from working, thus allowing withdrawal to creep through or shortening the half-life of it, leading the person to need more. It’s not there to block the buprenorphine technically, but it seems to happen. Naloxone also blocks the actions of some other meds too. Clearly not perfect.
That shocks me not at all. To give them these options and then yank the rug out from underneath them is just wrong. When you have people trying to get their life somewhat together and you remove their support system, they inevitably get desperate and go from law abiding citizens with a problem to criminals overnight. Not a fan of that approach. It seems like they took a bastardized version of the Swiss model and fucked it up royally.
When I was there around 2000 you could buy paracetamol with 30 mg of codeine over the counter. It was brilliant for fixing a hangover with a quickness.

Actually methadone can apparently give a good high,Al you have to do in order to theoretically quantify this is to look at the pharmacokinetics of the druv. Bupreorphine has less abuse potential
When mixed with naloxone, one can’t shoot up either methadone or buprenorphine. This within itself lowers abuse potential.

I’ve read books on the opiate epidemic in America… scenarios outlining this above. People go from normal to so desperate that within 24 hours they’ve gone from doctors patient to buying pills or heroin on the street.
There’s also the problem that opiates in particular were mass marketer as tools to treat benign every day aches and pains. So while recreational use wasn’t tolerated, there was a time wherein taking one of mom or grandma’s oxyocodne/APAP 10/325mg tablets was an acceptable way to deal with a sprained wrist or headache.
It’s incredibly easy to get hooked on something like oxycodone. Create a culture wherein it’s acceptable to repeatedly crush any semblance of discomfort with a powerful narcotic like oxycodone and you’ve got issues
With that being said, I’d like to point out these drugs have many… many legitimate therapeutic indications.
The opiate epidemic has brought about an unwarranted stigma of which is at times barring patients access to these meds who otherwise really need them.

So many of the Rx drugs are addicting. I am on lexapro and last time I was in the hospital they took me off it to control the pancreatitis. By day 3 I was sweating and shaking and spiked a new fever. I got the lexapro that night and it calmed down. Scary crap.
Back on topic:
My wife’s cousin-in-law (who is about 3 months pregnant) and not vaccinated came home for Christmas and manage to spread COVID to my 91 year old grandfather in-law and to her father in law. She played her cough off as “allergies” (in the winter in the Midwest in a house with no pets lol). I bet if she had gotten vaccinated before getting pregnant she might not have spread it.
Edit: thankfully they visited the family after I left and went to my parents house so I wasn’t exposed.

Alright, guys, my apologies. I googled old news reports and found out it was actually buprenorphine but only in pill form. The news only referred to it’s brand name, which is Subutex so I got confused there since I remembered methadon is used in HK. So people here were crushing BOTH this and midozalam up and injecting them to get a similar high to heroin. That’s why they started losing limbs.
That sucks. Hope they’ll be ok. Don’t you guys have ART test kits there? They’re sold as cheap as 10 bucks over here at every pharmacy. Why can’t these people just do a simple test prior to meeting up with vulnerable relatives? The fucking government even recently handed out 10 free kits to every household over here. It was just a simple reminder that you should do your civic duty by isolating yourself if you have symptoms AND test positive. There is no requirement to report this to any department nor go get a PCR test from a clinic. Who the fuck is going to know your test results if you do it privately and discard the kit?
It’s simple as fuck and takes about 5mins to swab yourself and 5 mins to see the results despite the instructions stating you need to wait for 15mins. The sensitivity even for the cheapest kit here is at least around 80%.
And to be clear so others here don’t misunderstand. I don’t have any real beef with unvaccinated people. Your body, your choice. I don’t buy the arguments about equating this to seatbelts and shit and I don’t want to discuss them. I have a problem with unvaccinated AND vaccinated people whom are SYMPTOMATIC doing shit like this. You guys can go argue all you want about whether being vaccinated prevents spreading the virus but even if it doesn’t, the odds are much higher if you’re symptomatic for fucking obvious reasons. It’s why people wore a fucking mask even BEFORE covid if they had flu symptoms (how the fuck would you know you have the flu without symptoms?) as an act of courtesy so there was a lower chance of transmitting it to others.

The vaccine is meant to protect the individual not others. Have you seen the stats? Vaccinated individuals are spreading it just as much if not more.
Where I lived when I was a kid, the belief was that heroin addicts had “lost their souls” so they weren’t “human beings” anymore. I guess that’s why lots of people in the Philippines who lived in the poorer areas didn’t have much of a problem with the extra judicial killings since their standard of living is still similar to mine in the 80-90s. Shit, I literally laughed myself into an asthma attack when I read about Duerte handing out guns to civilians while so they could defend themselves while making “citizen arrests” for suspected peddlers.
Citizen arrests are legal if the offence committed is
- is being committed at the time the arrest is made or attempted
- is a seizable offence
As I said before but didn’t go into details, I was prescribed benzos for 2 weeks once for jet lag. IIRC they were lexotan and one of those “new generation” ones from what I was told. I can’t remember what the latter was since it was only the brand name and I can’t even remember that so from what I could be bothered to google, it was something in the same class of drugs as zopiclone. Instructions were to take lexotan 2 hours before sleeping and the other one right before going to sleep.
I know lexotan does have some calming effects in low amounts and I can foresee the abuse potential if taken in high amounts but the other one had none at all for me but I met a girl some time later who was addicted to it.
After 2 weeks of taking them, I couldn’t sleep for a fucking week. As in NO SLEEP AT ALL other than nodding off sporadically for a minute or 2 a couple of times a day. Anyone who tells you that you will die if you don’t sleep for 3 days is full of shit. I went through 7 days of this shit and it didn’t even gradually get better. On the 8th day I finally just nodded off like normal as if nothing had changed. There were no other withdrawal effects like mood changes other than being fucking PISSED OFF that I couldn’t sleep nor physical ones like vomiting.
Fuck, this was before I had cable TV so I even remember at night I kept myself busy reading John Grisham’s The Pelican Brief, which was so absurd I decided not to watch the movie version and Michael Crichton’s State of Fear which was when he started his tirade on global warming being a new form of government scare tactic to keep the public reliant on them because of fear since there was a void after the Cold War had ended. Grisham is horrible writer and Crichton was a pretty good one and he even threw in real world graphs and stats and shit that I didn’t really give a fuck about but the way he told his story alone was compelling enough.
And keep in mind, this was like 2004 or later so Crichton was waaay ahead of his time when he started off on his anti-global warming stuff.

To keep in line with this thread after going off track for so many posts, I had a very mild fever and body aches around 48 hours after my booster shot which also lasted around 48 hours. Mild enough to not affect me much at all. Took some paracetamol and went about my day to keep the fever down only because there are some places which still have heat sensors before you enter the premises so I didn’t want to have to go through any shit explaining I had just gotten another shot and was suffering from the side effects. I also did an self-ART test because in one country in my region, a lot of people caught covid WHILE waiting in line for their vaccinations lol.
Parents got their boosters a week before me. Both just experienced either the same mild fever or fatigue for 3 days. All our shots were from Pfizer.
I wanted to get the Moderna one because there was some report that claimed mixing them would result in more antibodies being produced or something like that but I went to the wrong vaccination center which only had Pfizer and only remembered that when they checked my record online because I’m an idiot but they told me they could easily slot me in without any waiting time because apparently lots of people who had booked their appointments during that time period didn’t fucking show up.

What’s the problem? I mean, I wouldn’t have tested myself mid flight but she did and did a responsible thing after that. Her previous tests could have been conducted before the virus was detectable since she sounds like a hypochondriac but this time she was right. Mathematically, a false positive would be more way more probable than a false negative if she was previously in a place with lots of cases.

It is a publicity stunt and shows the headspace some are in. What is quarantining going to do 2 hours into a flight? The staff wanted to rearrange seats…ok, what would that do? What about the staff she ran up to? No quarantine? Everyone else in proximity?
I like how she shows absolutely no symptoms and is perfectly fine to give multiple interviews. It is most likely the common cold.

You might not like masks, but I can link a metric fuck ton of data suggesting they reduce how much an infected person transmits the virus provided it is a kn95 mask (filters out some aerosols) that has been properly fitted.
For those who are exposed, they won’t be infectious during the short duration post exposure.

You don’t really know what a “fitted” mask means. It’s not a mask that seems to be fit well. There are qualitative and quantitative methods of fitting a mask, and I can promise you none of those were available on that plane.
