Conversion From DB to BB

I got a wierd question, its is wierd because I am not looking for an exact answer. I was just wondering what SHOULD be my max for barbell bench press when I think it is lower than normal. I won’t say my max because that would be useless and MAY change some of your minds.

I am a strength oriented person, I usually do better with low\medium reps rather than high reps (but I’m working on changing everything and get a better workout). Now I know this is a wierd question, just I would like to know what others would expect. If I can do 100lbs dumbbell bench press three times (each arm), what would you assume my max SHOULD be.

I would of gave you a 1RM, but my gym doesn’t have bigger bells. The reason I am asking is because I am just wondering if barbell bench press is a muscular problem or psychological problem.
Thank you.

Probably 40% of each DB (so your 3RM in BB Bench would probably be 220 lbs or something). But what is the point? If your BB Press is too low, work on your BB Press. All that “I want a strong deadlift, but i don’t want to deadlift” and such is really lame.

I’ve heard that a max dumbbell press is going to be around 90% of a barbell press. So, using your 3 reps, your 3RM will be around 225, give or take.

Both muscular and psychological, plus central nerval.

If you want to maximize your barbell press you should train for it. Your max will go up if you train for muscle size but it will go up slower than if you just trained to maximize your bench.

You really shouldn’t be afraid to list your MAX, long as your lifting it will go up. It’s the internet so of course some people will laugh, try not to be so sensative. But, the more knowledge you give people the more they can help you, and regardless of all the flaming on here, tons of people are open to giving advice solid advice on T-Nation.

Well, I just didn’t want them to give ranges from my current max that I would of listen, but they got it in the right range. My max for bench is 245lbs. It is a 20 lb increase in 3-4 months. It is great!

I was following the Chad Waterbury SOB program, but I only did about 3 weeks consistently, then I got busy and had to restart it numerous times. For now, I am gonna stick with it for the month of August and see how everything goes.

Ah dude, I was going to post my guess and you let the cat outa the bag. Seriously, I was going to guess 240. Great job man now get it up to 250!

I have pretty long arms so I feel like the distance between DB Bench and BB Bench is pretty close for me but I use the same weight for close grip that I do for dumbbells. A few days ago I got in 12 reps with the same DB weight I got in 10 reps with. I did DB Bench first.
