Contest: Are You a Grip God?

I’d like to try it out. I can close Ironmind’s #2 with both hands, and with 2 fingers on my right hand. I am about a 1/4" away from closing the #3.

I know I can close this one.

I’ll squish it, I promise.

Can we use it like a thigh-master? I might be in in that case.

Okay, reply to this thread and tell us why you deserve to be sent the HG400 gripper!

What does the prize package include?

I would love to try the 400. I’m a college discus and shotputer in California. I deadlift 515, do pretty well with static gripping 125lbs for time. Can hold 40 lbs by a hub. And I currently do my working sets with a CoC 2 gripper. I think i have pretty soild all around hand strength. Not that any of those feats are fantastic by anymeans.

I put together a solid introduction to grip strenght on another board and I’d love to give a detailed review of them for this site.

I thought the COC #4 was like 360 lbs and only 1 guy ever closed it?

Not sure about the COC, but the HG400 is actually around 320 pounds, still damn tough! Bill over at Heavy Grips says that quite a few guys have closed it.

There’s actually an HG500! Anyone who closes it gets $500 from Bill. The pic above is Gunter trying to do it. Came close but couldn’t quite close it.

Whose Bill? For $500, I would die to close this thing. Really…I would work day and night to close it but where am I supposed to get it. My shop doesn’t have it? :frowning:

hell, I do not care about any prize package, the advantage this will give in my hand/wrist strength is more than enough. Just working out with that gripper would make the baseball bat fell like a stick in my hands.

The contestants have been chosen! We tried to pick a variety of people, from grip masters to regular weight trainers. And the three contestants are:

 1. Sybersnott

 2. senseless

 3. danreeves1973

We’ll mail the GH400 out this week. Your deadline is Wednesday, February the 23rd. By that time, you need to have posted a clear picture of you closing the gripper or a link to a video of you closing it (or getting as close as you can.)

If you close it, you get a package of goodies from Biotest! Whether you close it or not, the gripper is yours to keep, courtesy of T-Nation and HeavyGrips.com!

Check your PM’s (private messages) for details. Good luck!

Let me say I am extremely grateful and thankful for being given the chance to give this gripper a ride. Let me also add I am scared shitless now. That damn thing is huge.

Like I said in my post, I can handle a #2, no problem, never laid hands on a #3COC. Sybersnott ought to just kill this thing, be sweet to watch.

Too bad you didn’t pick Sully. You don’t know what you missed out on. . .

Thank you for choosing me to participate in this unique challenge!

I know Clay and IMHO he is a ringer for this… his grip is unreal - I personally watched him kill my silver-spring Elite at the AOBS this past June, so I KNOW that the HG400 would be no problem for him.

BTW, I have sent along all the required info via email that was sent to me.

Again, thanks Chris for choosing me for this challenge!

Sybersnott

Howdy–
I’m relatively new to T-Nation and I’m in the process of performing Chad Waterbury’s Triple Total Training. I was looking to incooperate some sort of forearm training, and I was wondering if anyone could direct me to a good post or article on forearm training. Alot of the references and exercises you are addressing are quite foreign to me. Thanks a bunch.

Just got the HG 400 in today, #251, great Valentines Day present.

Quick product review.

Gripper is way bigger than a regular COC gripper, handles twice as think, also about 1/2 or more longer. Thing just looks impressive as hell sitting there. Handle thickness is the biggest issue in trying to use it. I’ve got average size hands, and it is very difficult to get it set in your hand.
Overall construction and qualiy seems great. Would like to see the knurling cut a bit deeper, I’m used to the COC’s which bite into your hand.

First attempt, right out of the box, got it down to a little under an inch of gap left. No way I’m closing it anytime soon, but now have the ultimate motivator and goal for grip training. I will close it one day, and T-Nation will be hearing about it. Will post the pics for this contest later this week.

I got the gripper yesterday, and I haffta agree with danreeves comments. This is a big friggin’ gripper!

After much fumbling, I was able to close it. The problem for me is struggling with the huge handles and getting it just right. If I can do that, I can close the gripper.

Another problem: trying to get it on video, it just didn’t happen. I’ll try again tomorrow. The video I shot was just too shaky and you really couldn’t tell whether or not I closed the gripper.

Sybersnott

Sybersnott and danreeves1973, glad you got the grippers and are already giving them a squeeze!

Senseless, did you get yours yet?

Sybersnott, if the video doesn’t work out, that’s fine, still pics will work.

Dan, do your best!

Looking forward to seeing these, guys!

I received my gripper yesterday, woohoo!

I have to agree with Sybersnott, that thing is huge! I don’t have very large hands so I have to set it to get my mitts wrapped around it. I hope this is acceptable (I have to hold the spring and squeeze it about 1/2 inch for my pinky to get wrapped).

I’m not sure I’ll be able to close it by next Wednesday as I must get accustomed to its size, but I’ll take a picture of however close I get. I’m guessing I’ll be about 1/2 inch away from closing it by then. Of course, that is the toughest part of the movement!

Regards,

Sensless

Well, well, well! What a difference a day makes!

Last night, I took my HG400 gripper to bed! It’s NOT what you think… I was trying to practice no-sets and just getting used to the gripper itself. The more I fool around with it, the better I get.

Anyhow, I get up this morning and my hands feel like they are singing!! Wow, I love that feeling! It means that I’m especially GRIP STRONG that day, although I didn’t know how strong - I would find out later.

At 8:05 a.m. this morning, I pin-shut the gripper! Then exactly an hour later, I did it again. So I called a friend that works with me and asked him to get his digital camera cuz’ I was feeling good.

At 11:40 a.m., my friend shot these pics of me and the gripper. The first one shows me holding this huge thing getting ready to close it.

And here is the moment of truth…

And here is a pic of me celebrating the sweet victory!

Impressive!!!
