Confusion's One Workout per Week Log

AJ seemed to be a bit of an odd duck at times, but he pretty much invented the machine industry and did a lot of research in hypertrophy when no one else was.

Guy Smiley also did the news, didn’t he?[/quote]

Guy smiley is a versatle guy(pun, omg) who does everything with a game show host sort of energy. throw in a bit of used car salesman…there are actually several reasons i have him as my avatar. some rainy day i will ramble on about them.

I’ve been very busy with work and only had a short time out of the truck. Coupled with various and sundry things for my wife(i.e. Honey Do List!),there wasn’t much time for training. Most of my upper body was sore for 3-4 days from my last workout,so I decided to do only legs and abs. I’ve done no squats in like forever and need to work hard and get strong on them. Time in gym=1/2 hour. Attitude=rushed, but good.
Power rack wasn’t available so I did smith machine squats.
No weightx8, 2 45lb platesx4. 4 platesx4, 6 platesx2
Swiss ball crunches
Leg extensions 1 set to failure
Hamstring curls 1 set to failure
That’s it boys and girls. I Hope to workout again in a few days to do upper body. It may be 5-7 days til I can,but hey, that’s what I do. Confusion

Had the top down on this today. For all you poor unfortunates living in the cold,Hang in there!!! Hehehe

NIce ride.

Thanks GV.

Interesting log, confusion. I’m curious - you said you were drinking a case a day; It has been about a month, right? Have you seen any major fat loss or strength gains that you would attribute to that alone?

Today’s workout: 7 days since last workout. Time in gym=about an hour. Attitude was good.
Deadlift 3x135,3x225,3x315,1x405. Haven’t done these in a while, but I plan to add these every week or 2 and get stronger on them.
Alternated weighted dips and weighted pullups: 6xdips+10kg,4xpullups+10kg,5xdips+10kg,4xpullups+10kg, 5xdips+10kg,4xpullups+10kg
Hammer strength incline bench 6 reps to failure
Lateral raise machine 6 reps to failure
Dumbell shrug and rear delt shrug(1 normal shrug,1 rear delt shrug=1 rep) 25kg dumbells 5 reps,37.5kg 5 reps,45kg dumbells 5 reps
Ab machine
Triceps pushdown rope, 1 set to failure
Biceps dumbell curls, 1 set

As much as I disagree with this whole premise (lol) … That’s a fairly solid full body hit

Can’t go wrong with deads, pull ups, and dips

Carry on good Sir

Great question dharmabum31 I,m not entirely sure yet, i have lost at least 8 kilos in the past 2 monzhs, but was also on the protein shake diet. I didnt suddenly feel a lot stronger, but my workouts have had more intensity and i think this will make the muscles grow better. I need a couple more months of serious training, then i will know how much the alcohol interfered with progress. i,m pretty sure tho, that the weight loss had a lot to do with not drinking. i wish i could answer better. I feel alive and strong and havent hit my peak yet…I can attribute that to not drinking.

VelvetElvis, Thanks for the support and encouragement. You are the main reason I am training legs again. I will make you proud Elvis,or maybe at least a bit suprised. lol

No, he’ll WISH he had her!

Technicalities. With those jacked up legs he will.

Lmao

i am sure my wife will be glad to know that. lol

I have quit smoking. i waited til i was off the drink for a while,so i wouldnt be trying too many things at once. 2 days in,all good,no cigarettes. Well, that,s one less bad habit. I am not going to stop swearing tho!

Congrats on giving up the smoking. My guess is that a month from now that will have more an impact on your workouts (but probably not as much for life in general) as giving up the drinking.

While I’m with Velvet Elvis in not agreeing with your programming concept you seem like a really good guy and everyone should applaud your recent lifestyle changes. I also realize given the travel involved with your job getting to the gym more than once a week is probably difficult if not impossible to do so while I don’t think your training is optimal in terms of either size of strength gains it is a hell of a lot better than not getting to the gym at all. Carry on my friend.

DBasler,You have no idea how much your post means to me! thank you bro. I have to admit, now that I am training legs,a 2nd day might be best in order to have the intensity I need to train with. as in,by the time I get to the end of my workout,I may be too tired to push the way i feel i need to. We shall see. I think I can still make good progress in size and strength gains, amd that will probably satisfy me.I want to train in a way that I can maintain into old age and that i am not going to stress about. A little at a time is fine with me. I am looking forward to catching up to your deadlift. lol. your bench is out of reach and what are squats again?

Does she also have a twin sister?

I think a two-day split with one day dedicated to upper body and one to lower body would be a step forward for you. Having said that programming has never been my strong suit but I would be careful following Mentzer’s methods too closely.

While they definitely worked for Mike, given that his brother was also a decorated bodybuilder it seems likely that genetics played a role and there is no doubt the genetically gifted will grow with much less stimulus than a normal man can. I also don’t think anyone would question that steroids also played a major role in both he and Ray’s success and very likely were at least a contributing factor in both of their deaths at much too young an age.
