Keep posting so you can show off your results. You’re putting up and that is manly to start with.[/quote]
I like you dude!
Alcohol is the devil. I have a one too many to relax on occasion myself. The important thing is getting back on the horse. It is better to be clear half the time than so disappointed in yourself you are off all the time.
I havent worked out since the 21st. I must not be recovered yet from my last one, hehhehehehehe. Actually, taking a week off from training wasnt part of my plan, but, I’ll bet, even money, that I wont weigh any more, within a kilo, nor will my measurements be smaller. This is all part of my training philosophy. Not only that, but, I might have even built some muscle. And, it wont just vanish suddenly if I dont train within the next week.
I used to worry about muscle atrophy, now, however; not really. Think about this, if we get smaller everytime we miss a workout, eventually we must just sort of disappear, too small too see. Um,that’s not how it works kids. So, why is the dumbass American abroad on his soapbox? The issues I have just described used to cause me enormous stress and worry. Whether(not weather), I had a good day was determined by my success or lack there of in the gym.
If I missed a workout it was torture. I fell into the herd mentality, and I am going to tell you right now,That can happen even on TNation! Neitsche would have been disgusted. However, I’m on a different track now. Pics coming as soon as the girls are home again. Confusion

So now we’re working out once every TWO weeks? ![]()
… Hope everything in your world is getting better - jump back on that wagon brother, and keep moving forward
As to the above about atrophy, even the dead at Aushwitz could be “seen” - so I’m not getting the “disappearing” due to atrophy theory… As we’ve discussed, there is a fine line between doing too much (overtraining), doing to little (not enough stimulus to cause growth) and doing just enough for maintenance - with different levels between even each of those. You’ve chosen the far end of the spectrum to see how little you can do to still realize gains.
It’s definitely intriguing … But I’m thinking 2 weeks without any stimulus and you are going to (or have) regressed … Probably not severely - but I’m guessing the “one step forward, two steps back” might apply
Still following - and hoping you’ll prove me wrong ![]()
As always, your Devil’s Advocate - Elvis
VelvetElvis, I love your logic and gentle touch. Just to clarify,I’m not trying to see how little I can do. I truly believe that, say in a years time, i will have gotten as good results,as far as building solid muscle,as any on here. With little to none of the stress and injury and frustration. Time and pics will tell.
Thanks for the kind words brother. I’m putting myself out there, flaws and all…By the way. Your death camp analogy is actually what i was trying to say, the inverted law of increasing returns is not logical. I’m not gonna shrink into a micro-Confusion by missing a workout, or, God forbid, 2 workouts.

Thanks for the encouragement. drink is a serious demon for some and hard for folks to understand who dont struggle with it
One of the reasons for frequency is that most of the guys here train for powerlfiting. It is like any other sport, you have to practice, and you have to re-practice each time you are moving up some more weight as the lift changes. The frequency is as much about perfecting motor patterns than conditioning the muscle.
I know I can’t go an do a roundhouse kick worth a damn now as I haven’t been doing them regularly for months, but when I was practicing them 4 times a week they looked pretty sweet. I don’t think the squat and bench are a lot different than a roundhouse kick, you get it right and even if you only add 10# by perfecting your groove, that can win a contest.
Anyway, I’m watching with keen interest. I threw my pictures up too, as I’m not bodybuilding but I do want to improve my body comp, so we can be in this together.
Sounds good man. Let’s do it!
It’s on like donkey kong! Let’s see you make awesome progress and be in a bodybuilding contest. I’d like to see that in a year if your game.
my goals aren,t quite that ambitious GV. Gonna try to put on some serious muscle tho!

i,m not sure if this is sarcasm or not. either way,do you think thats enough time? i dont plan on ever competing, and certainly dont think I would ever even place in a bodybuilding contest. I dont have the common idea of what is astheatically pleasing. i.e. as long as legs arent chicken, they dont matter, big arms are cooler than a big deadlift, flat abs are good enough. Not worrying about being a greek god.
just wanna build my body the way i woukd like it to look. hmm maybe I,m too confident. that,s a possibilty. i just know that i have drank my ass off and trained every week or 2 and am still one of the bigger guys in my gym. i,m putting it all out there and trying to be the most real person I can. i put my pics up and will ad more in a day or 2. i aporeciate all the responses to my log! thank you, you are helping motivate me to do my best. Confusion
No, I think he was serious. Competitive bunch on the board…the goals for meets help keep a lot of people focused. It would be rough in a year to get into competition shape at 6’6" though even for masters natural. Do you have a set of measurements you want to hit? I’m such a numbers whore I have a spreadsheet for everything…
i will check and post my measurements within the next day or 2 along with some pics. then maybe we can help me set some realistic goals. i have never tried that,so it will be stepping into new territory for me. cool?
Confusion,
I’ve been reading your log and I agree with the general theme of your plan, which is, if I am not mistaken “It works for me as well as these other plans but with 1/5th of the time investment” it’s pretty hard to argue with that logic. I go to the gym to relieve pain, some go for stress relief, others because they are competing, I figure as long as what you are doing helps you meet your goals then it is the right plan for you. That being said I wish I could go 1x per week and hit my goals, you are a lucky man.

Thanks BrianHanson! I really appreciate that. Have you tried once a week? lol. Playing bud. I’m gonna post some more pics, which I have to admit don’t look as good as I’d hoped, but hey, gonna get there. I’m following you log too. When I have something intelligent to add,I will drop in.
