I have read a lot of articles and talked to a lot of smart people about working out but today the new trainer at my gym told me that 100 pounds is all you need to get as big and strong as you want. just do more reps it works the same as heavy weights they are just an ego booster.
UM BS
Not sure what even to say bro. Go to the beginner forum the two thread pinned at the top and read a LOT!!!
I mean ya thing if it were that easy Arnold would have bothers repping anything heavier hell NO it takes hard work and load progression.
Come on back with a base of knowledge bro happy reading its good for ya.

Bullshit! Its more like 75 lbs. I mean, any more than that, and you might hurt yourself.
If you trainer is talking about 100LBS for seated shoulder press, then yes you will get big…better yet if you can do 100 LB seated shoulder press you are probablly already big.
The trainer probably said 100 pounds because that’s the most he could do in any movement, and who would want to be stronger than a trainer?

I’m not a beginner I have been lifting heavy and doing my homework for about 10 years. I just thought some of you would get a kick out of what a personal trainer is telling her clients.
By the way I can shoulder press more than 100 pounds.
Not defending the moron, but before any judgment can be passed we would have to know the context of the conversation.
I have had people overhear me, or see an exercise I’m doing with a particular client, and they have come up to me after and asked what I was doing or that I was wrong, to find out this person has physical limitations, specials goals, or I was training for function or prehab rather than hypertrophy.
However, my gut just tells me this guy is an idiot.

This was supposed to be a joke, right?

The trainer was a she but that doesn’t change the fact that she’s wrong.
I’m pretty sure he meant repping 100 lb dumbbells in shoulder press not a barbell.

Hopefully.
I was telling her about a moron that I work with. He was commenting on his home gym and how great it was and it went up to 100 pounds. he said that was more than enough weight for anyone to get as big and strong as they want to be. I ask her about this as a joke and she totaly agreed that 100 pounds is enough weight and that lifting heavy weights is only an ego booster it doesn’t make you stronger than lighter weights and more reps.

Obviously if this isn’t taken out of context, this is absolute stupidity.
However, I don’t think you are going to find anyone on this site that is going to take her side, so this post can lay to rest.
