Combining Work and Workouts

I recently started working at UPS and it’s a very physical job. As such i had to take a few weeks off of my workouts while my body adjusted to my new job. I’m ready to get back in the gym but I doubt I can do 4 workouts a week. I had started a “Westside style” workout program a few months ago and had amazing results. I’m considering doing 2 max effort days as usual, but combining the dynamic into 1 day for now and tweaking the accessory exercises to see what my body can handle. I was just wondering if anyone out there with a really physical day-job has any input. Also don’t say “well, ya gotta try it out and see man” or “if you don’t train AT westside, you don’t train westside”, I’m just looking for opinions. Lastly, other than going to an actual seminar, what do people recommend to learn more about Westside’s ideas, like their videos for example. Thanks to those with info.

You could work out on M(ME SQ/DL), W(ME Bench), F(DE SQ), M(DE bench) if you are still doing the westside split. Dave Tate talks about this in his eight keys series, it is towards the end so check out artical four.
Good luck

I agree with will42, in the elitefts q&a section, mike ruggiera answers a pretty similiar question froma guy who works landscaping. He suggests the 3 day a week split and makign sure to keep hydrated and eat enough. Nothing too radical. I have the Westside seminar video series and it’s really good. If you’ve read ALL of Tate’s articles and understand them, you probably won’t learn much, if anything new, but it’s presented very well, so if you’re thinking about it, i’d say go for it.

I’ll add that I have been using the 3 day rotating split: m-mesq, w-meb, f-de sq, m-debp, w-mesq…with good results basically you get 9 days between sessions and only 3 of each session a month instead of 4. I think it can be good if your working a job that is long hours, and your not getting normal sleep. I was working 10-12hrs a day and only 6-7hrs sleep a night.
