Coach Davies

Coach, the time and effort you put into this forum is unreal! You seem to answer everyone’s questions with unbelieveable patience. I know everyone appreciates it. I have a couple of questions for you. Have you talked about what supplements you encourage your athletes to take? For instance - creatine, do you support it and at what age and what brand? What else for a former college athlete, now 32, whose been back lifing about 2 years?

I also have two YOUNG daughters (ages 3 and 6). They love to workout with me and I bought them those cute, pink 1 lb dumbells. Any advice on how to keep and develop their interest? I take them with me to do sprints as well as let them “pump” with their big weights. Don’t want to start them too early, but I come from a family of athletes and they are showing signs of “Renegadattitude”. Thanks!

I’m not the coach, DUH!! but i will help you! basically he likes to use a whole specrum of supplements with his athletes mainly bcaa’s and glutamine before during and especially after a workout, he has become fond of surge after workouts as well! In regards to creatine, a brand which is 100% pure is best as like anything you don’t want contaminants german creatine is generally regarded as high standard. You should be awarded a medall as in regards to you daughters ! I would vary there program from day to day making sure that they get some form of daily exercise! teach them proper form with there little weights as this will lead to good adult habits! Basically make there fitness programm fun and varied plently of running jumping and skipping (GPP) get them to try basic calisnetics (b/w exercise) and above all praise them when they are doing well but correct them when they are wrong.Happy training and good luck!

Coach Davies uses a large amount of glutamine (20-25gm a day) and a good supply of BCAAs. If you haven’t already do a search on this site for “Davies”, he has written a number of articles for t-mag. Next, you might want want to visit his other site renegadetraining.com. If you have any other questions ask. Best of luck.

If you only knew what a pleasure it is for me to help as well and appreciate the opportunity. With regards to supplementation, as noted I focus a great deal on recovery based items such as Glutamine & BCAA’s. Naturally, there is always personal modifications but thats a good general start. On the the more important topic of your daughters, which as many now - childhood athletic development is one of my greatest interests. Your enthusiasm to get them involved is tremendous. Of course their first steps in athletics need to reinforce the positive aspect that this is fun. Prior to starting any immediate weight work - start on the basics of flexibility and movements to enhance motor skill development and overall “body harmony” (Maybe Dad can even learn “Double-Dutch”). I look forward to hearing from you again. In faith, Coach Davies

You guys are unbelievable! I hope you get the rewards that you should - in all forms - for your time, respect, love, and dedication you teach and preach. You have hit the nail on the head about my girls. I will follow your advice with them! I must plead ignorance on glutamine and BCAAs. I will research it myself but if you happen to know of any brands that are cost effective shout them out. I think I will go with Prolab creapure to add to my MRPs.

With all my respect!
