Closing in on 100kg...220lbs

strange I’ve been at 208lbs for quite some time, not exactly lean mind you at 5’9"

so I started this new training cycle, much shorter workouts, some slower eccentrics, iso holds, bands etc, plus I’ve been doing tempo sprints to help me lean up and for speed work conditioning. I’m eating slightly less, and I am getting leaner slowly which was my goal to get leaner and lighter, while getting stronger and more powerful.

But the strange thing is my bodyweight jumped up to 96kg after the 4week deload period, and is now sliding up to 97kg or 213lbs at the 8 week mark.
Hmm at this rate 100kg maybe just around the corner… of which I’m not sure is a good or bad thing

one main thing I added to my diet was milk and breakfast cereal which I have not eaten in the previous 2 years, mostly with lactose free milk.
Maybe this is it…

damn this is the heaviest I’ve ever been
in my whole life!

Eat up.

you need to bear one thing mind about the mass gaining, once your bodyfat starts exceeding 15% mark it effects the ratio of muscle/fat when gaining mass,

15%, pity it actually depends where you started from and your current setpoint.

Guys the thing is, I’m actually leaner…

It just seems strange for me to be gaining weight so “rapidly” after sitting on one wieght for so long, and then when I eat slightly less (not consciosuly though)and do more stuff to help me get leaner, my bodywieght shoots up. Perhaps I’m undergoing a delayed training effect although I know this happens with strength/power, I never thought it applies to hypertrophy as well

perhaps all that hard training I did months before built up a stimuls my body could not respond to, and then now that I’m training relatively less, there are more resources around to udnergo structural changes… maybe? who knows

That is spectacular! Keep it up, man!

Must be that Aussie weather. If your getting better than we are, it iwll be hot

Happens to me all of the time.

I go through a month of hard work without a single result, do one week of reduced work, and my lifts sky rocket by at least 10 lbs (more for the leg lifts, obviously).

its still probably just a factor of calories in/calories out, man.

you may be eating less and doing more “training to get you lean” but the drop in TOTAL VOLUME is enough that your daily calories (even though you are eating less than before) are still in surplus.

ive gained weight without putting on any fat too. it is possible. just difficult.

cool though. good for you!

train hard,
ryan b.

Yeah I understand the delayed training effect for power/strnegth - all my training is desigened to do that, but for hypertrophy?

Well the sprinting should account for the extra calories if any don’t you think?

Cool,

I appreciate the explanation regarding your body weight. However, if you could show us a video I think that would really get us a clear picture of what you are talking about.

Yes, I think a video would be helpful here. Do you know how to place a video on the board?

(
My tongue is firmly planted in my cheek)

When that happens in the case of hypertrophy its more of an endocrine thing. There is quite a bit of research on this with detraining and very significant increases in testosterone…i’ve seen around 50% increases in T after 10 days of unloading. If you couple this with the enhanced glycogen storage that is likely to occur during a deloading week, the weight increase can be significant.

Col,

Xmas is coming so i think the extra 1kg might just appear!!!

Well that extra 1kg did appear!

98kg now…
