Clicking in Elbow?

When I do heavy presses (either overhead or bench), and even some triceps exercises, my left elbow makes a clicking noise. What is that? I found that if I use much lighter weights, or if i lower it to the side (away from me), I don’t get that sound (o yes, i forgot to say, it only happens on the negative portion towards the bottom) It doesn’t hurt, but it definetly doesn’t sound right. Maybe loose ligaments? What can I do about this? Again, it doesn’t hurt, just feels weird, kinda like something is moving out of place. I am going to see a doctor about this, but its not for a few weeks. I just want to have some extra input. Also, I am 19…which is why I don’t understand why this is happening.

Thank you for your time,
brian

Google is your friend.

Look up clicking joints and you will see it is a common thing. As long as there is no pain, swelling, or redness associated with the clicking than you are fine.

Whenever I do military presses, my elbow clicks, it’s never been a problem.

Do you do bicep stretches? An athletic trainer told me that stretching is a remedy for clicking joints. They won’t hurt you, but they’re annoying.

Wait until you get to be my age. My knees sound like celery stalks being broken in half when I do lunges. They are loud enough that someone within three feet of me can hear it. No pain or swelling so I just put up with the noise.

right shoulder clicks when i do push presses, or military presses for that matter. doesn’t hurt or nothing so i guess it is alright…

Its most probable that you’re muscle growth is faster that you’re connective tissue advancement. I dealt with it about a year ago and my triceps exploded after a lot of recovery.

Left knee clicks with squats. So freakin’ annoying.

ok sounds cool, just one thing though…its more than just the clicking sound I am worried about, because my legs sometimes clicks to…its more like I feel my joint move in the wrong way a little…its hard to describe. It feels like there is too much pressure on my elbow and it pops a little to compensate, and I’ll try the bicep streches, thanks

I’ve had a similar issue. I fenced for a long time in college, and as a result developed some tendonitis in my right elbow. Nothing terribly serious, but there was a clicking/giving problem that I had to deal with for awhile. There wasn’t really pain associated with it, so much as general discomfort. Foam rolling and Active Release Treatment of my forearm and lower triceps helped loads though. Hope that helps

so use the foam roller on my elbow area? How long and often?

thanks!

My left elbow clicks all the time, including when I just extend it fully. It almost feels like its popping, makes an odd, very noticeable sound. Never hurts or swells. Mentioned it to a chiropractor friend, he said that the tendon there is snapping against the joint. When I extend the elbow, the tendon is pulling tightly from one side to the other, and making a clicking sound in the process. Sounds like what you have. Apparently very common, and nothing to worry about.

My left elbow clicks as well, same as you described it and I’m only 18. That is why tricep isolation is out of the question for me. I get a little bit of pain when doing that kind of isolation. After a really heavy day of bench press or shoulder presses, I wake up the next morning with my elbows feeling like they’re going to explode.

I should probably see my doctor too lol

yah definetly! Especially if it hurts haha…so foam roller is the solution? I guess i’ll have to try that out
