Clean & Press w/ Non-Revolving Bar

I train at home with 1" standard plates and bars.

I have a sturdy 7’ exercise bar I want to use for repitition Clean and Press.

Am I just asking for trouble if I do cleans with a non-revolving bar?

I don’t plan on doing power cleans, just C&P’s.

For some time I had the same problem. I was working out at home, with a non revolving barbell, in a room (sort of like a living room)… so a missed C&J wasn’t an option.
It’s not that bad, as some problem don’t even have a barbell, but it’s a bitch from the beginning, cause it’s just so different than a normal oly bar.

But you’ll get used to it, at least I did.

it will hurt your wrists a bit, but its bearable. the spin normally takes some of that static pressure off and helps you roll the bar better but ive trained with some crappy bars over the years and im no worse for the wear

Just give the plates a little space so they can rotate, and also the locking collars and you’ll be fine.I worked up to 130 kgs with a normal exercise bar. Also, if the bar is too close to the floor, just put some wood underneath the plates.

what? you normally are supposed to use an olympic bar that rotates? I’ve been doing power cleans for a while and have never used a revolving bar…interesting…oh but to your question, i’ve never had an injury or anything.

In the early days of Olympic lifting, rotating sleeves on bars were unknown. They were only introduced much later on, when wrist injuries started to become more common because the weights used were increasing. So unless you are planning on doing C&Ps with more weight than early Olympians, you should be OK.

Yah, I have been doing the clean and press for a little while now with no problems to my joints, and I have bad wrists.
