Classic NES

I bought one of these over Christmas and was just looking for input on some classic games to buy. I forgot how annoying it was that most NES games don’t have a save function…ughhh. Anyway, here are the games I have that I like:

-Zelda
-Link
-Mario Bros. 1,2,3
-Metroid
-Top Gun
-Bubble Bobble
-Adventures of Lolo
-R.B.I. baseball
-Blades of Steel

Here are some I’m thinking about getting:

-Battletoads
-Double Dragon
-Mike Tyson’s Punch Out (can’t find cheaper than 20 bucks)
-Contra
-TMNT 1,2

Any great ones that I’m missing?

Super Mario Bros 3 of course!

I forgot the website, but you can download an emulator, and some ROMs and get a ton of Nintendo games that take up a tiny bit of space on your computer.

It also allows you to save by using the f5 key, and you can go right back to where you last saved it if you get killed in the game. The only problem with it is that I couldn’t find a classic controller that could hook up to my computer. :frowning:

Tyson’s PunchOut was my favorite. It took me a while to beat Tyson even WITH the cheating f5 save feature.

You can sort the list by their rating to give you an idea of what others liked best.

Afterburner, Captain Skyhawk, 8 eyes, Castlevania, Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy, Mega Man/MM2, Excitebike, Ninja Gaiden, Tetris, R.C. Pro Am, 1942/1943, TMNT 3: Manhattan Project, Ghosts and Goblins, Gradius, Rampage, Paperboy, Bomberman, Willow, Galaga, Airwolf, Romance of the Three Kingdoms (2?), F-117A Stealth Fighter–boy did I lose a lot of my life to this game (and loved it), P.O.W., Skate or Die, Spy vs. Spy, DigDug/DigDug II, SILKWORM–all time fav., Altered Beast. That should last you for a loooong time.

The old systems have the best replay value as a whole. I remember when beating a game was a huge accomplishment. It seems to me that most games made recently are significantly less challenging (but maybe that’s because I was like 10 when I got my first NES).

Just throwing in some unwanted opinion but Genesis is sooooo much cooler than Nes. Sonic kicks marios ass anyday.

TMNT!

I never knew there was a Metal Gear NES game. I’m definitely looking into that and the Final Fantasy games

What about Tecmo Super Bowl? I have Tecmo Bowl and ruthlessly beating the opponent by 50 every time gets lame. Is Tecmo Super Bowl more challenging?

You did not just say Genesis was cooler than Nes.

I just realized you can play any of those games through that link I posted.

I just beat Chicago’s ass as the Redskins!

Go away, you Sega sucka, before you get a Powerglove upside the head.

NES rules the world. End of story.

Must-have’s I’d add to the list are Duck Hunt (how am I the first to say it?), Pro Wrestling, and Ultima:Exodus. If there was no Ultima, there would never have been a World of Warcraft.

Last one, sorry but NES hits near and dear for me. I only just got rid of my Super Nintendo last year.

Oh, I forgot to mention that Chip and Dale for NES was great.

has anyone brought up Tecmo Bowl?

Baseball Stars, Super Spike V’Ball, Contra, Castlevania (I think they were all good)… Hmm, there was some game where you were a ninja flying through trees, Legend of something.

You can get a ROM of just about any NES game here:

The NES version of Ultima: Exodus is the definitive version of that game. Better graphics than the PC version, nice music, and the combat time limits were removed. It’s one of the most important RPGs ever made, even if it’s outdated by modern standards.

After III, stick with the PC versions of the Ultima games. It’s a shame that the later ones would get butchered on consoles.

As for underrated classics, play Clash At Demonhead. Just do it.

River City Ransom
RC Pro Am
