Circus Dumbbell Into My Training

I’m really thinking about putting the Circus Dumbbell into my training but I’m not sure where it could go. I started 5/3/1 and I do push press on Friday’s and bench on Wednesday. Since 5/3/1 isn’t exactly high volume, keep you sore for 2 days training I was thinking Monday.

Mon- circus dbell 5/3/1
wed- bench, incline dumbbell 5/3/1
fri- push press 5/3/1

lol just press the damn thing

You really like over thinking this shit dont you?

He really does. I don’t think there is a single aspect of his training that has not kept him awake at night at least once.

Mike your killing your self with all this over analyzing everything and trying to find that magical program. Its a begginners mistake and alot of made it. Stick to your current goals and routine for atleast a few months. Then look back at yojr joufnal and fogure out what can be fixed.

The circus dumbbell is pretty advanced lift for Strongman and at a ametuer level you don’t see it much. Stop worrying about every single event. You need to pick a show that is 4-6 months away and you need to base your training around that show. If and only if it has a circus DB then do it. Your main goal at this point should be to bring your base strength strength up ( Push Press, Front Squat, and Deadlift). No ofeense but at your current level the Circus DB is going to do very little for you your much better off sticking to regular DB and Push Presses for now.

the circus DB is not all that taxing on the body. In no way does it need its own day. Just do the damn thing after one of your main exercises. Also if you are planning for a contest and the DB is not in it, train specifically for the overhead event of that contest.

no training question has ever kept me awake at night or even bothered me to a large extent. I just wanted an opinion because I didn’t want too much pushing or too much on the triceps, god damn. And I have no interest in competing in a powerlifting meet in 2013. I want to do 1 entire year of straight powerlifting with no sports involved and this is the year. So 2014 is when I intend on competing because clearly I’m not strong enough to win. I’m not tryin to go to a meet and not win

Then why the hell are you worried about adding the circus dumbbell… that movement is strictly sport specific to strongman and has absolutely nothing to do with powerliftinng. I have been to quite a few powerlifting meets and have never seen a circus dumbbell there.

Your problem is that one week you want to be a strongman and the next you want to be a powerlifter and the next you wanna be the best Push Presser ever… Pick a goal, pick a routine and stop changing your mind every 30 minutes about what you want to do and maybe just maybe you’lll actually go some where. Make up your damn mind.

You just stated clearly that you " want to do 1 full year of straight powerlifting " then why the hell are you worried about the circus DB ( oh yeah because you have no clue what you want ). The fact that your not strong enough to win and you clearly know that is all the more reason for you to stop worrying about all the event training of strongman and focus on upping your gym lifts and getting stronger and becoming a generally better lifter.

As every single person who responded has said STOP OVERTHINKING SHIT. Figure out what your goals are and go after that fucking goal.

In your words “God Damn”

P.S. Stop getting so damn butt hurt you act like I insulted you or something it was a joke for the most part.

The only time I heard someone say “butt hurt” in a sentence is workaholics lol. And I know circus dumbbell is not in powerlifting but nothing’s wrong with getting strong in a specific area like that. I personally think that the lift is bad ass and is a real way to determine strength and that’s why I like to add it. No offense to your sport but I don’t think I want to be a “strongman” because some events I think are stupid. I prefer benching and squatting instead of loading sandbags. But anyway I plan on doing powerlifting meets in the future but I also love press training like the circus dumbbell and push press and implementing them into my routine can’t have any negative affects on my overall strength. I was just curious on where I should put it in my workout so I don’t have too much work on my arms on a certain day. I like strongman and powerlifting, shit I wish I could do both to tell ya the truth

Dude, every single on of your posts reminds me of how I was when I started (and still kinda am, to be honest)

Wild goals, go full out 100% for them, change them after like 2 weeks, no consistency at all, wanting to add in every cool lift possible and at random.

Stop. If you listen to everyone here you can avoid wasting a year or more like I did doing exactly what you’re doing. Once you waste a year, you can NEVER get it back. Your maximum strength potential is now that much less. You DON’T have all the time in the world to fuck around.

CONSISTENCY in everything. Hammer the SAME big lifts for a year (the big 3 + OHP are probably a good pick, I don’t have enough experience to tell you if you should do front squat instead or something. Who gives a fuck honestly.)

Eat huge. Train hard. Sleep well. For a year. You’ll have a real base by then. I guarantee you’ll be way way stronger and have way more experience after that. Then you can think about circus dumbbells.

STOP FUCKING AROUND. If I sound harsh, it’s cause I’m partly writing this post to myself…

lol you’re good dude I know you’re not tryin to sound too harsh or anything. I get what you’re saying I’m focusing on the big 3 plus the push press. I plan on doing those for a year straight, I guess you could say I was tempted of the idea of adding strongman in there cause I’m a huge fan of Zydrunas Savickas and he did powerlifting and strongman and I thought about the idea of doing both. Plus it’s easy for some 17 year old kid to say he wants to be the strongest athlete ever but I’ll put it this way, I don’t intend to enter meets or competitions to come in 3rd or 4th to boost my morale or some shit I plan on winning all the time. As of right now I am doing powerlifting because I have no idea of a gym around here where I could remotely train strongman if I wanted to
