Chickenlegs Photos?

How can you not be down with getting wheels like this? I have never understood or related to someone who didnt want big, strong legs and to squat huge weights. Not all of us get there, but to not train for it is completely foreign to me.[/quote]

Good post.
Someone like myself with naturally skinny legs, with a tendency toward injury (2 knee surgeries as a teen) and chronic bouts of tendinitis, looks at those guys with some derision. Here I am busting my ass, and these guys aren’t even trying! The funny thing is the egos on these guys as they strut around the gym so everyone can marvel at their delts and arms.

lol

Only in America and possibly other countries where feminism has a stronghold.

So, I don’t usually post in the Bodybuilding forum, because I don’t think I have a right to do so, but maybe you gents can give me some advice on the subject.

As a stupid sonuvabitch high school kid with no parental guidance, I did not train legs. In fact, I ran cross country. Try to imagine the disadvantage at which this put me.

I do mostly powerlifting stuff now, but devote half my sessions to lower body movements. My legs still look like shit.

Fix me.

THIS!

There is no doubt that legions of upperbody whores exist, however there are guys out there who pound their legs (bodybuilding style) and the results don’t reflect their efforts.

I know two guys who are very meticulous with their training/diet and really enjoy intense, heavy leg work. While they do have noticeable development (to the trained eye), on the street in shorts you wouldn’t know it and you’d probably call them upperbody whores. One of the guys put on like 25lbs over the course of several months. Yet all that happened was he became a bigger version of his previous self and his legs, while bigger, are overshadowed by his upper body just as they were 25lbs ago.

Making matters worse for many is the style of men’s shorts and swim trunks. Within the last few decades (in U.S.A) men’s shorts and swim trunks have gotten longer and longer and baggier and baggier to the extent of covering the knees. Back in the 80s, it appeared as if it was common to see men wearing shorts that went no lower than mid-thigh level. In today’s era if shorts are just a mere inch above knee level, it is considered gay. In otherwords, you better have massive calves or you are screwed.

In addition to “no parental guidance” you may have been delt a raw deal in the parental genetics department as well.

“Mostly powerlifting stuff” (squats and deadlifts I assume) will stimulate development. But a bodybuilding protocol would be more appropriate. While you can discipline yourself to be strict with dietary measures and effective leg routines, chicken leg genetics will always be a bitch.

BROSCIENCE ALERT

you are not squatting with high enough reps. I’m talking 10-30- rep horrible nightmare sets.

How often have you heard guys say that squats just give them a big ass? Well most of the time (this is what I’ve noticed anyway) these guys tend to be doing 5x5 or similar.

My theory is glutes respond best to low reps, but quads need high as fuck reps. So by squatting with low reps you are providing your glutes with the perfect training stimulus for growth, but not providing anywhere near enough for your quads.

This leads to people complaining their ass only gets bigger when they squat, although I’ve never really understood why people are so scared of a bit of glute hypertrophy. I wear my oversized ass with pride and have been told on more than one occasion it’s my best feature, but I digress.

So yeah, if squats aren’t doing anything for your legs, you need to do much higher reps.

END BROSCIENCE

To add onto this, I noticed pretty good gains in my quads just by doing a single 20 rep squat set (back then I used high bar, that’s probably relevant)twice a week after heavier lifts. Didn’t think they stalled strength gains at all, and Wendler approves of their use as a first assistance lift for 531. Just food for thought

Tell your buddy that not trainging legs will slow his upper body gains. Squatting increases testosterone production. Plus real men have wheels.

hahahaha…BAHAHAHAHA thank you sir

my problems is calves, i rarely do them. And so wheN i were shorts its just ughh…

Second the above. Calves are what makes or breaks how your legs look day to day! My calves are pretty naff despite doing everything to make them grow. So when i wear shorts my legs look skinny. My thighs are in proportion so my only option is to wear either hot pants or speedos when at the beach/causal lunches or BBQs.

i’m sure the people around you are eternally grateful for that

Let’s pose this…

A lot of guys wear sleeveless tops to show off their guns.

Solution for guys is to wear shorts that show the quads… I mean that’s pretty obvious solution to me.

If I was built half as good a Lee Priest, damn right I’d wear a Speedo at the beach.

This is true. However, American society(currently) is too homophobic for this to be adhered to by most men.
