just spending a Friday night up late, drinking milk (trying to get the two beers and two glasses of wine out of my head!
) and watching Patton. One of my favorite movies, particularly since I served in his division (2nd Armored).
Rommel, you magnificent Bastard, I read your book!

Lol…well, you outlasted me. Probably because I only needed to get one beer and one Jack and Coke out of my head.
That is a great movie. I haven’t seen it in a long time, though.
Instead, I kept the wife up watching “Heavy Metal.” Yet another thing from my youth that I can’t let go.

You know, I’ve always had a fascination with Rommel. Read a few books on him. One of which had some of his memoirs, notes, etc… I believe it was called The Rommel Papers.
Interesting read…
Sad way to end a life. That’s what happens when you serve a demon, though…even if you detest him.
One last chime in on the never ending discussion of bench grip. I am tri heavy and pec light so naturally I am stronger with a narrower grip. I always wanted to “reverse” this fact by gradually working it wider to bring in more pec and less tri. It seemed to work a bit (this is going back) but then I ran into rotator problems. I have heard from some docs I partly respect that the wider bench grip puts more strain on the rotators IF you have a naturally prominent (long) acromion, the end of your shoulder blade going into the rotator cuff area. Orthos grade acromions on a 1-4 scale, 4 being the most prominent and therefore most likely to develop rotator injury. I had bilateral 4’s, and ended up having both shoulders operated on.
In theory, if you have size 3-4 acromions (an x-ray can tell), you might be better advised to keep the grip narrower.
However, theory doesnt always match life. I do try to listen to my body, at least sometimes! Evan with my acromions both shaved down to nubs, it still flares my left shoulder up if I bench wide, which I STILL want to do for some unknown reason (maybe Arnold said it was a good idea back in the seventies…) Doc

Interesting. I had never heard that before…only that wide grip was hard on the shoulders. I learn something new everyday!
Within the past year I have had an MRI and x-ray of my left shoulder. I will see about checking back with the doc and see where I am as far as the scale.
Thanks for the info!
Bench Day-
Dislocatesx10x2
Note…one of the things I do as dislocates I call windmills. You use the same broomstick/pole but instead of going back to front with both arms simultaneously, you do one over and then the other. I think this was the second part of the dislocates video. I have noticed, since “hurting” my right shoulder, that there is a “catch” in the shoulder when doing these. It feels like it is in the socket. There is zero pain, but a definite “catch.”
CGB (Closer Grip Bench)…thumbs cross over to the smooth part
barx20x2
95x10
135x10
185x3
225x2
245x5
275x1
285x1 - PR +10#
295x1 - PR +20#
Right shoulder didn’t hurt at all. Left shoulder wasn’t happy.
Flat Bench - testing varied hand placement
225x3 - my normal grip - index finger on ring
225x3 - ring finger on ring
225x3 - pinky on ring
225x3 - middle finger on ring - This one felt the best…or was the least painful. I should try this when fresh.
Seated Rows
160x10
205x10
230x10x2 - PR Weight
230x8
Close Grip Pulls
195x10x2
195x8
Tricep Pushdowns - elbows in
110x10 - felt like my tricep was detaching from my elbow
60x25x2
Standing DB Curls
20sx25x2
It felt really good to finally get heavy on the seated rows. My close grip pulls still suck. I may try wide grip next time and hope the elbow plays nice.
Chest did not hurt at all. Last workout’s pain must have been a very mild strain or pull.
DLs on Wednesday! Yay!
Nice work LS…
YOu are a strong presser.
rows aint too shabby either.

Thanks kmc. I am really surprised at the weight on the CerBG. I think I could come with 25# of my flat bench max.
The rows I am not sure what to think about. I like them, feel strong at them, but have no idea if that weight is actually good (proportional to my other lifts).
Not that it matters. They’re fun.

If you’re not heaving the weight - like me - then it’s very good indeed.
That looks like some strong pressing and rowing, LS. And I hope the shoulder heels quickly. We need to get you meet ready!
Nice CGB and rows, Strick! Wish I could push that much on the bench with a normal grip! You’re gonna tear up your meet.

Very little movement of the torso on the first 8 reps. The final two had more of the upper body rowing movement. Pretty much the same form I used before I figured out how to add weight to the machine. I’ll get a video next time.
Thanks jjack, mcl…
The right shoulder is doing better. Of course, I am working around it the best I can. The left shoulder…well, I have about decided it is going to do what it is going to do. Fortunately it doesn’t appear limiting.
As for the comp, I really need to get my DLs up to compensate for what will be a weak bench.
jjack, 63G - any new ideas on which meet…and when?
I think your CGBP is outstanding. And I also feel you are a a bit more tri dominant than you give your self credit for. Maybe cause your just flat big? Dont know.

Thanks 63G. I think my triceps are fairing a little better than I expected. And, yes, my girth is growing everyday ![]()
Your weights are moving up fast. Busting your ass does pay off. You’re BigStrick in my book from now on.

Thanks eco. I’d settle for just Strick. Of course, at the rate I am gaining weight, Big Strick might be more accurate ![]()
Started back on the cardio today. 30 minutes on the treadmill…4.0 incline, 3.5 mph. God I hate cardio. It is soooo borrrrring!
You’ve been doing some mighty nice lifting, Strick.
Do you listen to music when you cardio?
