Lol…you get an A+ for persistence.
When is/are the meet(s)? For that matter, where are they? Is there a web page…for the meet or the federation?
How is the shoulder doing?
LS and 63–let me know if you guys are going to a meet in TX or OK. I would be interested. I’m just outside Dallas, but I don’t have a clue how PL meets work.

I have no idea how they work either. I would be relying on 63G to educate me. I think, though, that I would be expected to wear ridiculous garbs and try to move heavy things. I can easily see how doing either of those in public could lead to much embarassment.

I should amend my previous statement: I have some idea how they work, just not the logistics. I figured picking up heavy shit was part of the deal.

Sorry. I should have inserted the [sarcasm] and [/sarcasm].
I do have an idea of how they work. I would just rather not get dressed up and look like my sons do when they try to lift with me
None of the low murmurings like…Dude, you should have registered for the pre-k class…
It looks like there is one in OKC coming up in Oct. Look up North American Strength Assoc. Go to table of contents.
JJ East or West side of Big D?
Ive never competed, but its pretty straight forward - Squat Bench Dead. You can just bench. You can do a Push Pull, Or Power Sports. Thats a Bench Dead and Curl. Equipped or not.
63, I am in Sachse, which is just above Garland and below Wylie off of 78, Northeast of Big D.
Uh OH looks like somone is buying a Mantard!!!
Mantard!!!
Mantard!!!
Mantard!!!Mantard!!!Mantard!!!Mantard!!!Mantard!!! Mantard!!!Mantard!!!Mantard!!!Mantard!!!Mantard!!!Mantard!!!
LS- Way to stay right in the action in spite of the aches, pains, pops, cracks, and inflammation. I’ve convinced myself these are just facts of life of “The Over 35 Lifter”, much like death and taxes.
It’s too easy to say “I don’t lift anymore because it hurts”. This separates you from the masses.
Good work over here. You’ll be back at 100% in no time on the benches.
btw, I love your kid’s yells in your last rack pull video. He’s like a little coach ![]()

Never competed? You sound like an old hand.
October is likely a no go for me…1) because we are stuck working 10 hour days and weekends on the new facility. That will continue into October. 2) because I am a pansy and playing with to many meds to know how I am going to feel and 3) it would be nice if my shoulder was working since I would likely do the push/pull.
That being said, I don’t see any reason that the meds, shoulder and work issues won’t be sorted out by the end of the year. While the thought of it terrifies me, I would be amenable to making a go of it next year…even early next year.

If jjack goes too, that would make multiple mantards. I am sitting here shaking my head at the thought of it.

Yeah…that was Joshua. He is my partner in crime. The first 2 sounds sounded like he was counting. The rest sounded, as you said, like a coach. 'cept I think he was issuing commands/encouragement in Chinese.
Sometimes I keep lifting simply because I hate being beaten by anything/anyone. I am not unrealistic, but if I think I should be able to, I get pissed (at myself) when I don’t/can’t. Same reason that I mow the grass in the heat of the day. I did it when I was a kid and, dammit, I’m gonna do it now…heat be damned.
Besides, as we all know, lifting is so much more than just moving iron. It is therapy, a purpose unto itself, improves our overall quality of life and is something that separates us from the herd and gives us a fellowship to like minded people.
Speaking of pain, aches, pops, cracks, etc…, how are you doing? Recovery going well?

Ok first off, I really did LOL! Thats just uncalled for! See how you are?
I put on my bench shirt the other day. Since Ive gained the weight, lets just say it didnt quite fit. Man I looked liked Baby Huey!
Second, Like most everyone here Ive lifted on and off since I was 10. It just so happened I was around some real good power lifters. Thats why I maybe coming across like a know it all. Dont mean to. Honest. My apologies.
But, the way I see it is There is strength in numbers. I think it would be easier you know not so nerve racking if a bunch of us went. That way we have a support group.
It will take me every bit of 2mo to get back in shape. So no hurry for me eather.

Nothing to apologize for. I just assumed that you had competed before. Or , maybe, hoped, as it would be nice if one of us knew exactly what was going on. Since you are the most familiar with it, we will just lean on you ![]()
Looks like there is one on Jan. 23rd and the OK Open on May 8th. Is it safe to assume that all of the ones on their site are NASA? Jan. might be a bit early, but May is definitely good.
I see several meets for East and West Texas as well. Do you have to be from the state that the meet is titled…like from Texas to compete in the East Texas Open?
Since this looks like it is going to happen, I really need to sort out my training for bench and deads. Since I know my bench is going to suck, comparatively, it would be nice if I could be somewhere around 600 on deads. Hopefully that isn’t a pipe dream.
Hell’s bells! I hope I can travel to see this

I can vouch for this. It sucks to not have a crew with you in your first meet. You make bad decisions. You need some steady heads to talk sense to you or take over if that’s impossible. They need to submit your next lifts, too, whether you did well in the previous lift or not, because either way you are out of your head.
Absent some unforeseen emergency, I’m in. :).

I’m sure that it will be entertaining. I just hope in a good way. Not that I am overly concerned about 63G and jjack doing well. With me, though, you never know. I might be the comic relief ![]()
Hey! Maybe we can get enough folks competing to start our own officially, unofficial, geriatric powerlifting team.

I can only imagine. I definitely would not even consider doing it without some sort of support crew. My nerves will be bad enough. I would end up declaring my bench weight for deads and vice versa. If I remembered to put them in at all.
