Chasing Big Strick

You’ve been operating at 90% in your lifts for a while now in just about every session and maxing often. I’m not saying that you don’t have low T, but that you’ve been pounding yourself pretty hard the last while and you might have overreached a bit.

I agree. Finish up the week and go through the motion next week. Think of it as a step back to get a flying start forward. [/quote]

I am planning to scale back the weight/intensity on everything for the next 1 1/2 - 2 weeks…after today. I haven’t decided how my DLs (today) will go. Really depends on how I feel at 5:00.

I am also altering my workout schedule. I normally do workout - off-day - workout - off-day - workout - 2 off-days. I am switching to workout - off-day - workout - 2 off-days, repeat. It just throws an extra day of rest in while maintaining the same number of workouts per week, but in groups of 2, instead of 3.

Thanks 63G. And REALLY good to hear from you! Looking forward to you starting back up…
How’s the shoulder?

Sounds like a solid Plan LS. I’m betting you come back strong as hell!

Thanks j-willy. I will definitely get through it, by hook or crook. I’m just weary of feeling run down and being pissy about everything. OH HELL! I have PMS! At least it will go away in a few days.

Man I know that feeling!

Deadlift/Delt Day -

Couple of things… I felt a bit better today. I still felt drained, low energy, achy, etc…, but mentally I was not as fried. I decided to make this my last heavy day for the next 1 1/2 - 2 weeks. My plan was to go heavy and try a max, if I felt it. Otherwise, just to get a heavy DL workout.

As it turns out I hit a new PR. BE WARNED! IT IS REALLY UGLY! There are multiple form issues. The main, and most concerning, being how rounded my back was. That was a lack of concentration and, honestly, not paying attention because I was so fearful of actually trying the rep (I HATE failure). Also, I pulled it back part of the way, rather than pushing the hips all the way forward. Those are just from a cursory glance. I will study it further.
In the end, I am not injured and the damned thing went up! Now I am not nearing that weight again for a while!

Deadlift
135x10
225x5
315x3
385x1
455x1
500x1 - PR +25#

Deficit Deadlift - 45# plates as my platform - 1st time doing these
315x5x3
2nd set - - YouTube

Delt Death - Quadsets - Laterals/Reverse Flyes/Forward Raises/DB OH Press
20sx10x2
20sx8

DB Shrugs
65sx20x2

I am fried. I think every joint in my body aches…oddly enough, except for my back. As I said, I am going to take a week plus deload. When I push it back up, I am going to take everyone’s edvice and spend less time in the 90-97% range. Getting the 500# up today, even if ugly, took a lot of my fanatacism away…in a good way.

500 is huge! Now go rest (wags finger).

Thanks jjack. Believe me, it is HUGE to me. That is something that, back in April, I didn’t envision getting this year. Forget about just 4 months later.

Yes sir. Rest and deloading is on the way. I hope not to exceed 205# on bench for at least the next week, maybe longer, to hopefully get my right shoulder/arm back in the game. The legs are doing okay, but I definitely need to rest up and come back with less of a shotgun approach to my workouts.

Looks like someone is going to be needing another set of 45# plates before the year is out.

Congrats on the 500. The rate your lifts are going up is simply amazing!

Major congrats on the big PR LS! I think most PRs at that level are ugly at some level and yours didn’t even come close to stalling out.

Ugly, shmugly. You won, the weight lost.

Outstanding!

Exactly! Everyone gets some rounding at max lifts. I didn’t think it looked all that bad.

Great job LS. Way to end on a high note.

Thanks FF. The bench and squats have already slowed significantly. DLs were just the one exercise I knew I had a bit left in.
500#! Halfway to goal! Lol…just joking, of course. Even I am not that delusional. Although, if I live to see 700#, I will be utterly thrilled. Just to rub my genetically enhanced family’s nose in it  In the most loving way possible, of course.

I don’t plan on trying more than the 500# for a while. I have a total of 580# of weight. So I am good. Just in case I turn green and start to swell, though, dear ole Dad is bringing out 6 - 45# plates (from back home) when he comes out this Christmas.

soldog, DCA, danjo thanks. It definitely wasn’t pretty. But, in the end, it did go up. And for once, I didn’t give the weights a cheap victory by adding 5# and trying again. Of course, looking at that rep, there wasn’t 5# to spare.
Now for the deload…

Oh, forgot to mention, yesterday I ordered a pair of Inzer knee sleeves. I am hoping that it will help with the left knee.
My purchase was met with a loving, inquisitive, not angry (no, seriously), “That’s it, right?” from the wife…

Good job on the record lift LS. I’m like DCA, the weight lost. I’ll be intrested to see how the knee sleeve helps you out, as well as following along your training regime after the deload.

Thanks j-willy. Funny thing about “the plan.” I am great at coming up with them but suck, royally, at sticking with them. I get a new max stuck in my head and turn into The Tick…ooh, shiny! One of the disadvantages of not having a workout partner. I have to keep myself in line.

Well, I assure you that we are all ( at least most…don’t want to speak for everyone) looking forward to your return.
Glad to hear that Gray is still hanging tough. I hope the prognosis is good.

63G and DCA - I have considered changing my name. Big Strick seems rather pretentious, though. Maybe I will just go with Strick. I did a search for it and it doesn’t come up as a name already used.
The deal is, though. I won’t do it until my bench hits 350 and squat 400. The 500 DL was one of those goals. I just happened to hit it early.

For future reference, how do you change your name?

Well, as I found out through changing from skidmark to my current awesome apellation - you can’t. You have to create a new account and notify the mods of your intent so they can lock the old one. They don’t like people signing on with multiple accounts and will lock the new one if you don’t tell them.
