Chasing Big Strick

LS nice squats, training is looking good!

Your brother is a HOSS must run in the family.

I use thank you, and please every day. They are a staple- but so are many choice 4 letter words
Native New Yorkers meaning people born here in the 5 boroughs of the city arent mean,
we are pretty nice, but life moves at such a faster pace here then other places- sometimes we can be very direct or abrasive…

Nice work .

Thanks. As hel mentioned in his log, the folks on this site help immensely. The encouragement and just trying to keep moving with the herd goes a long way.

I hope that I didn’t imply that they were hostile. They weren’t. There just wasn’t any warmth to to the interaction. Unlike here, and back home, where I can wave to a stranger and they usually return the favor…not look at me like I can’t be trusted…lol.

The most abrasive folks I have run across/are were from Missouri and Wisconsin. They will slide a FU in the conversation and never mean anything ill by it at all. That took some adjustment on my part. The first time it happened I was expecting a throw down…until I realized that he wasn’t even looking at me when he said it and I’m not sure he even realized he had said it. Just how he was used to interacting.

Edit to add: Little Bro is a hoss. He is the strongest person i have ever meet in the real world. Unfortunately, he hasn’t done much more than play with weights since leaving the Navy. He is so busy with work and 3 kids (works a lot of overtime and outages) that when not working, he is with the kids. I’ve tried to convince him to take the oldest with him.

He is definitely a natural. As he and I have different biological fathers, I missed out on the power genes. That is not to imply that I am small. Only that I have had to put many, many more hours in, in the gym, to get what little bit I have. Maybe I should ask him for a loaner…lol.

Nice squattin LS! Lil’ Bro looks like a TANK!

Thanks SteelyD.

I may have conveyed this in an earlier post, but…
He and I stopped fighting when I was 17 and he was 13 (I’m 4 1/2 years older). We got in a disagreement on the basketball court and I grabbed him by the shoulders. He dropped a bit, wrapped his arms around me and snatched me off the ground like a stuffed animal. It was then that I decided we were mature enough to settle our differences without violence…lol.

My favorite story about him was from when he was in 8th grade. The kid behind him kept screwing with him (throwing things into the back of his head, flipping his hair, etc…). So, Little Bro stands up, desk hanging off of him, turns around and flips the guy over…in his desk…as in head on the floor.

He was also a decent “fighter”. I guy that graduated a year behind me was taking boxing and needed a sparring partner. Little Bro (I also refer to him as “red”, short for “redneck”) was taking karate at the same place. Since they knew one another, he said he would spar with him. Little Bro’s uppercuts were a bit stronger than we knew. He was actually hitting the poor guy (220# of him) hard enough to lift him off the floor. The sparring didn’t make it past the 1st round.

He once told me that he had always been envious of my ability to comprehend and learn things. Which is funny since he works with nuclear reactors. From my side, I have always been envious of his God given physical abilities.

GPP for the day-

Unloading 9 200# and 36 15# boxes from a van, loading them on carts, pulling the carts about 300’, then unloading the carts/stacking the boxes in storage. Pulling the cart was harder than I expected. Of course, at 800# a load, the tires were pretty much pressed flat.
This isn’t the type of work I was envisioning when I became a Network Admin. It did work the soreness out of my legs and hips from yesterday’s workout, though.

Yep, you ain’t plugging in wires and pecking on a keyboard. It’s kind of like my fall back career. But concrete finishing isn’t so bad. I wasn’t much for being forward thinking in my career paths.

FU, LS! I’m from Missouri!

Great job on the skwats, man!

Lol…present company excluded, of course.

Fortunately. or unfortunately, the plugging and pecking will start in a couple of weeks. I much prefer the physical work to sitting on my @ss all day. I feel better after breaking a sweat…just not in khakis and a button up shirt.

You know, I never did really figure out what I wanted to do. I kind of fell into this work because a) I could do it and b) it paid a heck of a lot more than policing and changing oil.

As I have said before, if I can make the same money raking/mowing yards, I am outta here!

Concrete finishing, huh? Concrete and I don’t mix well. I’d end up a permanent fixture in someone’s slab.

I want to do that but I’d like to drive one of those zero turn mowers… And I could be happy flipping burgers if I can wear shorts and flip flops…

I don’t know the NC health codes. But if it is at a beach, there is likely a place where you can flip burgers dressed like that.

j-willy, what are the winter time temps on the coast there?

Upper Back/Shoulder Day-

Not sure what to say about today other than it was lighter weights and higher reps. I would say it was kind of a deload, except that I am really tired and the shoulders burn…

Wide Grip Pulldowns
80x12
100x12
160x12x3

Seated Rows
160x12x3

DB Laterals
30sx10x3

Shrugs
225x10
275x4 - Grip still fried from Tuesday and all the crate moving yesterday
315x7 - DL grip and it still wouldn’t hold
225x10

Front Raises - I stole this from hel and used a 45# plate. I REALLY liked the way it felt compared to DBs.
45#px12x3

Reverse Flyes/Rear Delt Raises
35sx10x3

That’s it! Shoulder is feeling better. Hopefully that holds through Sunday’s Chest/Tris.

Tomorrow is back to the new building. We still can’t deploy the equipment I moved yesterday, as we can’t secure the network closets. It will mainly be bringing the core and datacenter switches online and then spending a lot of time configuring them. I much prefer moving the equipment around…

A few videos from the workout. My wife likes to watch me workout so I decided I could use that and check form on the none major lifts.

Seated Rows - Need to get a bit more range of motion here. Maybe target the sternum instead of gut.

Laterals - Need a bit more forward lean and slightly straighter arms.

Forward Raises - Really liked these.

Lucky guy. MY wife makes a point of shutting the garage door when I lift if she’s at home. She’s deathly afraid I’m going to break myself…again. The chances ARE good, but that means that I’ll be rolling around on the garage floor and nobody likely to hear it.

Like the new face fur. Very trucker-ish. Belies your gentle employment as a network admin.

Hmmmm…so she is afraid that you are going to “break” yourself and…doesn’t want to know? Wives!

A lot of gray in this face fur. I asked my wife if I should get rid of it (the gray, not the fur). She loves the gray (mostly silver, actually)! I just think that is because it advertises my age to all of the college girls in town, and nurses I work around.

Some of the younger ladies like the silverback gorilla look…

And regarding this Little Strick stuff: Mebbe your brother IS a naturally powerful guy, but I’m pretty sure you’ve got potential you haven’t touched yet. Your lifts are coming up so quickly that I believe YOU are a natural. In a very short time you’ve put more than 100lbs on your deadlift (over 400 now, right?) and you haven’t yet used up the natural potential of your size. It took me a year to get from 300 to 400. You did it in weeks. You ain’t ‘little strick’ you are THE Strick.

Cheers.

LS, just watched your videos. You’re a big SOB. You definitely have a lot of potential. I also have a bunch of grey in my beard. Just makes us look distinguished.

Big indeed!

My chin is straight grey.

Interesting that you should say “silverback”, as my friend (the one who came by and lifted with me) said I looked like one.

Thanks DCA. I really do appreciate it. I am definitely not devoid of potential. Growing up around 2 folks (my Dad being the other) with so much natural ability, though, you sometimes start to wonder. After all, we tend to compare ourselves to those we are around.

The DLs have come up fast. The squats too, for that matter. I have felt the slowdown, though. Fortunately, having tried the zerchers just on a whim, I am now convinced that they are a magic pill to some degree. I REALLY like the way they hit me. I can feel them hitting me just like the bottom end of DLs, which is where I need the most work.

Thanks, eco/danjo. No…not a small guy. You would think that I could lift a hell of a lot more, given my size. Oh well, we are where we are. Hopefully the potential is actually there. Only time will tell…

I’ll go with the “distinguished” look. My only other option is to shave. And since I haven’t been beardless since 1996, I think I will take the silvers and grays.
