Chasing Big Strick

Off day-

30 minutes on the treadmill after work. Then about 15 minutes of hip mobitlity work and various stretching. Followed by 15 minutes of pushing my littlest on the swing.

Feels like I tweaked or strained my right anterior delt. I think Sunday may be speed work. It will be interesting to see how it affects my pulls tomorrow.

LS-- Nice lifting! That 315 went up nice!

Thanks SteelyD. I definitely felt the transition about 4" off my chest. I really thought that I could tighten my form enough, though, to get the extra 10#. Had my left hand not drifted, I still think I would have. I will try it again on the 30th.[/quote]

The way the 315 went up, 325 is yours. Missing it last time was an accident.

I sure hope you’re right, DCA. 325# is a magic number for me right now, as it would mean that I have progressed farther than ever before. Not to mention, it is right at the 1/4 tic towards 405#. When I hit that I will probably keel over from the pure elation.

I’m jealous as hell with that 315 rep. Can’t wait to see the 325 go up

Nice work, that sailed right up.

Benching without a lift off is tough. I bench without one. I do what Hel says to do. My head almost hangs off my bench I’m so far back. My unrack and benching line of pressing are very close. I think it saves the shoulders. You’ll hit 325 in no time.

You and I both. That will be a good day!

Thanks kmc- and I am right there with you…I bench what I squat.

eco- I tried to get my wife to spot me, but she just doesn’t have the strength. It was more of a hinderance than help. I am definitely going to try pushing the bench back (base outside the rack). Hopefully it won’t be too far.

Legs/Back-

Shoulder is still tweaky. Decided to max on DLs.

Dislocatesx10x2
Deep Knee Bendsx15

Deadlifts
135x8
225x5
315x3
385x1
435x1 – PR +35# – back rounded too much, but, again, it went up. Also, while not using enough of them, I am using more legs than when I got the 400#.

450x0 - felt good but drifted right, as you can see in the video…not sure why

Squats
135x8
225x5
315x3

335x3 - partial reps to get used to heavier weight
365x3 - partial reps to get used to heavier weight

Face Pulls - Tried low pulley but was lifting the front of the home gym. I ended up putting 45# plates on the feet to hold it down and did them from the high pulley.
90x12
100x10x2

Bent Over Rows
225x6
sharp pain on the inside of my right elbow, outside edge…stopped these right there.

Reverse Flyes
30x10x3

The missed rep at 450# was really frustrating if only because I felt really strong. It was going to be a hard rep, but I felt it was completely doable. Then, inexplicably, the bar shifted to the right and actually swung back, a little to the left and back to center. Never had that happen before…

Hey - Congrats an a big PR LS! Shows all the hard work is paying off.

Thanks soldog-

Thing is, it has been easy. Don’t take that the wrong way. Getting stronger isn’t necessarily easy. All of this is just catch up, though. I have made great jumps in strength (for me) because (at least I think because) I have been here before. Since I benched 320# and squatted to depth 390-395#, in the past, my body is not having to do anything that it hasn’t done before…even if 24 years before. I know this isn’t necessarily the same thing, but it is almost like muscle memory. I just need to get my body used to the stress again.

What will be really telling is once I hit, or break, 320# on the bench and 385# or so on the squats. I fear that it is going to slow down immensely. Until then, though, full steam ahead…

Great work, LS!!!

Thanks math.

Well, I have definitely done something to my right shoulder. I am sure that yesterday’s pulls didn’t help. Although, I didn’t feel any discomfort while doing them. It is tight, achy and has the occassional spasm. Forutnately I don’t have to workout again until Sunday, which will be speed work…and light. While I had planned on doing nothing for a couple of days, I think some dislocates and YTWL might be called for, to loosen it up and get some blood flow. And, of course, I see ibuprofen in the immediate future.

I echo all the others on the great work. Hope that shoulder heals quickly. I know that isnt fun to deal with at all.

Thanks j-willy. I was reflecting, this morning, and realized that I had never had a training injury (weight training) until I hit 39. How frustrating…

To add to it, I think Bunny jinxed me. I read about his lat issue and now my right lat hurts as well. Oh well, if I can’t lift like him, at least I can hurt like him…lol.

Can’t we all!!

Bench Day-

Dislocatesx10x2

Speed Bench
barx25x2
95x25
135x15
working sets
185x3x8

Pushdowns - elbows out
140x8x3
120x8

Pushdowns - elbows in
100x12
110x8

Rev. Flyes (rear delt raises)
30sx12
35sx10x2

Shrugs
225x12
275x8
275x10
225x12

I thought about doing some manpon or pin presses. A rep at 225, though, told me that my shoulder wasn’t ready for the weight. It is really difficult, as you all are well aware, to backoff.

Hope all the Dads out there are have a great Father’s Day!

Wow, Strick, I’m gone for a week or two, come back, and you’re…Superman!

Keep up the good work, and pass some of whatever you’re taking my way, please.

Thanks sfp…and it’s good to have you back around.

Turns out, close grip bench with 245# is kryptonite to my shoulders. Who’d a thunk??
