Chasing Big Strick

SD- I am trying to forget those. I keep griping to my wife that the kids are unable to get near me without finding a vulnerable spot…knees to the groin, knees and elbows on various pressure points, elbow to the sternum, every time they climb out of my lap. I think I am going to sign them all up for MA. They will be deadly.

DCA- Somehow it doesn’t surprise me that you sleep well. No joke…it just fits your personality.

j-willy- If I can take some Ambien in the morning and not remember part of my workday, I will be a MUCH happier person! Seriously, though, I am assuming that Ambien requires a prescription. I may have to talk to the GP about it.

It takes a script LS. I buy the generic. It gets me about 5 good hours of sleep. I feel rested and I panic if I run out. Back when I frist started taking it was good for 8 hours of sleep. After 6 years my body is pretty dependant on it. The Doc doesnt seem worried after getting the results of the sleep test.

On top of this…and, no, I am not making this up…my daughter brought in yet another dead baby bird, yesterday afternoon. Then, this morning, our newest kitten was not doing well. Wife took him to the vet and ended up having to have him put down. This one REALLY pissed me off! We took him to the vet a day after we got him, weekend before last, because he was having issues urinating. I told her to tell the vet that he couldn’t go, except for drops at a time, and needed to be cath’d. Vet ignored that, said he could pee fine but had parasites and low protein. Soooooo, they did blood work and guess what, negative on the parasites and protein was fine. He still had us give him meds for worms/parasites and put him on antibiotics.

Jump to today…I told my wife to have them cath him even if they didn’t see a problem, as I was still sure he couldn’t pee. Too late! His urethra had ruptured from the pressure. And, not being able to expel the urine, his kidneys ended up failing. Please forgive the colorful language, but if the sonofabitch had listened to me last week, little one would still be fine. I have had my fill of doctors and vets. I work in a hospital and can tell you, as if you weren’t already aware, that they are some of the most pretentious, know-it-all, don’t wanna listen ass-clowns that I have ever met. I wouldn’t piss on most of them if their guts were on fire.

And, yes, the rant did help…a little.

In any case, no more kittens, pups or any other mammal. Fish only, as no one seems to care if they don’t make it.

Thanks. I have an appointment with him next month. I will bring it up. My GP is one of the few docs I like and who actually listens.

Today’s protein intake…300g. Just made it, with the evening shake.
Squats tomorrow and for once, I am actually looking forward to them, even though the back is still a bit tight and tweaky.

Know what you mean about the Docs. I went to the Doc once with my wife. She was having some problems and I told him I thought it was whatever (I can’t remember). Anyway, He says to me “Where did you get your medical degree?”. I said it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see whats going on. Turns out I was right.

Fast forward a few weeks. Well before I get there let me say, NO ONE snored as loud as my wife. She would quit breathing. Sometimes I didn’t think she would start again.
Anyway I knew he wouldn’t listen to me. So I took a tape recorder and walked around the house and would say things like: I’m in the living room or where ever I was. We get to the Doc, I tell him I think she has Sleep Apnea. He starts in. We wind up yelling at each other. And I say “well what would you call this?” I play the recorder. He says “well I don’t think its Sleep Apnea, it sounds like piping”.

Turns out it was Sleep Apnea. Some of them just won’t listen to the patient.

63G- That is exactly what I am talking about. I realize that a lot of folks go to the Dr. and have no idea what the issue is. That was evidenced by my wife’s Dr.'s surprise when my wife started her program for gastric bypass. My wife had read enough about it that there was nothing new for the Dr. to tell her. The Dr. was in shock. Apparently, most folks just don’t educate themselves about what is, or could be going on. Unfortunately, even good docs assume that is the norm.

Honestly, though, of the dozens of docs I have worked with, at my job, most have a holier than thou attitude and get aggravated by an educated patient. I would think that it would be the opposite. Of course, since hospitals treat docs like gods, it is no wonder they feel that way.

Leg Day-

Yep - that is a 20# DB packing taped to a 65# DB…65# is the highest I have…lol

Protein for the day…330g.

Sticking with my no DL plan, to ease off on the back, the workout was…

Dislocatesx10x2 - shoulder was tight from Tuesday’s bench
Stretching and hip mobility work

Squats
barx10x2
135x10
225x5
275x3
300x3 - Still too far forward and my hips want to rise early…but getting there

300x2 - Went way deep on the first rep and blew the set
300x3
225x8

BB Bent Over Rows - trying to use weights that require little to no leg push, except the last rep or so
225x8
230x8
235x8

Rack Pulls - ended up on the floor on my back after these
300x20
350x12

1-arm DB Rows (Kroc Rows?) - utilized my redneck 85# DB…see pic
85x12/12
85x10/10x2

supersets
Shrugs
225x12x2

Wide Grip Pulldowns
160x10
160x8

I crawled out of the weight room. The rack pulls blasted me and the rest put me to rest.

j-willy- I took 6mg of melatonin last night. It sent me too la-la-land pretty quickly. Only woke up once. of course, my littlest didn’t make it to our room until I was almost ready to get up. Best night of sleep I have had in weeks!

Hey that’s great news - I’ve been trying Z-12 and it has been hit or miss (of course the stress in my life has something to do with that). Where does one buy melatonin?

oh, btw - nice leg day you had there LS!

Thanks soldog. The squats are coming along slowly, but at least they are coming along.

You can get melatonin anywhere. My wife usually gets it at CVS or Wal-Mart, depending on where she is going when we need it.

Z-12? Never heard of it. I do take ZMA, but inspite of the claims that it helps you sleep, it turns my stomach and keeps me awake. So I take one in the a.m. and one at lunch.

Z-12 is sold here by Biotest. I also take ZMA at night and haven’t noticed anything from it.

Well, I did my 6mg of Melatonin last night and went out like a light. I slept very well until little man showed up…about 1:30. The reason his being there gets me is that he prefers to be next to me, rather than my wife. With him pressed against me, I tend to either not move, which makes me wake up sore and tense, or I wake up in order to turn over. Couple that when his sleeping MA, and that translates into several wake ups.

Quads are nice and sore today. Again, my pecs were sore after yesterday’s workout. It seems to follow the rack pulls. In any case, 2 days off and bench on Sunday.

Yesterday’s protein…300g.

I have noticed, of late, that I am thickening up a bit. Yes, in the chest and shoulders, but I am mainly refering to my upper gut (just below the ribs). In light of this, and since I have no desire to gain fat back, I am going to have to come up with a plan to eat cleaner. I am still going to shoot for the 300-350g of protein a day, but try to make sure that I stay away from sugars and other simple carbs, except when loading for a workout. Diet is a not so good area for me. So, it will be interesting to see if I can drop a few pounds and still get what I need to gain strength.

Getting my morning cardio back in the routine should help. I usually have no problem losing weight, as I, as with most things, hyperfocus. I have never really tried to lose weight and gain strength at the same time, though. Hope that I can find the balance.

Lots of outside work today…weeding the garden, mulching the beds, clearing some downed limbs, mowing, draining a pool that I soon hope to be rid of, setting up a tent in the yard for the kids and helping the daughter learn to bat (she wants to play softball).

Sounds like a great day LS!

It was a great day. Later in the afternoon I swam (sat and played) in the kid’s pool with them. I taught my 3 year old how to hold his breath and go underwater. That thrilled him beyond words. He must have done it a hundred times, with a laugh or yell every time he came out from under.

Evening was movie night with the wife and daughter. As the oldest, she doesn’t always get the attention that the younger two do. So we try to find more evening time for her.

Protein for the day…250g.

Bench Day -

I was supposed to do a 5x5 today, but felt inspired by Bunny’s performance. So, I stuck with the 3x3.

Dislocatesx10x2
YTWL, YWTL, whatever the acronym is…

Bench
barx25
95x15
135x10
185x5
225x3
255x1
280x3
285x3

290x3 - wife cut off half the 1st rep on the vid…

255x5 - paused reps

Military Press
barx15
135x5
185x7

205x3

185x5

Tate Presses
50x10
60x8x2

Pushdowns
110x10x2
110x8

One less exercise for the day and an additional working set on bench. While the strength was still there, again, everything felt heavy…hence, the back-off on exercises.

That’s a great day of pressin’ LS!

[quote]soldog wrote:

soldog- thanks. It felt really good to military again, even if the shoulder was slightly tweaky. Getting back over 200# for reps felt REALLY good.

I had intended to do 3x3 with 280#, on the bench. I just felt like I needed more, though. Hence, the +5# per set. I can’t wait to do 300# for a set of 3!

Hopefully I get there in this lifetime…

Slow and steady bro, give your shoulder a chance to heal and adapt to the higher weights.

I am really trying to be patient with the shoulder. This issue has been around for nearly 10 months. Doc said that it is an irritated bicep tendon with fluid collected around it. But, two cortisone shots later, and a couple of months rest (late last year) and the issue still remains. Once I get done with the Endo (later this month), I will revisit the shoulder doc. It is really annoying.

Also, I was looking back over the military videos and sonofa… if I am not doing that same thing on military that I do on heavy bench…slightly raise the bar before I start to descend with the weight. I have no idea why I do it. It must “feel” right. Whatever the reason, though, it needs to stop!
