I totally agree with Nate. Don’t be one of those assholes that goes out and spends hundreds of dollars on a pet when you can go down to the humane society and get one for free that is going to be euthanized if it doesn’t find a home.
Is there an age where a cat is too old to be nuetered?? Should it be done when he is a kitten at a couple of weeks old or can you do it when he is a year old? I don’t know how old my kitty is.
Here is my kitty… he falls asleep in the odest positions… He loves to sleep on his back, especially when in my lap so I’ll rub his tummy. This was taken a couple of nights ago.
And yes, that is a canister of chocolates next to me… They were YUMMMMMYYYYY!
Wow, all of these kitties are so beautiful!
And solo’s girl: I’ll be the first to say it, even though I’m a girl… “Nice rack!”
HA!

Go right ahead and get that kitty. I have one and let me tell you, it is great. It totally is crazy, yet very attached to me. Funny story. Not only does she “cut” and “bulk” with me, but she pulled a jailbreak the other night. As you know, its humid as ballz up here in central NY. Well, two nights ago I heard her running around the house. A few hours later, silence. So I went downstairs in the morning, come to find out she had clawed her way through the screen and got outside. I walked out onto the porch and looked down the quad. She is way down at the end, scampering around. She sees me and darts. So I walk back in thinking, she’ll come around. As I go back outside with the Pounce can, she is back on the porch waiting for Vain. I shake the Pounce, she bolts in, and the prodigal kitty has returned. She had an immediate post-workout of quick-digesting Sheba. Followed by a small ECA hit of Catnip. All’s well that ends well. She was back in bed with me the following night.

PS: I’ll be down in Ithaca this weekend. Any good places to train?

Jeez,
Didn’t think that many people would participate in this thread…;o) I keep going back and forth about getting a cat and I think I am just going to suck it up and get one. As much as I would prefer a dog…it just isn’t feasible at this time. Not to mention, they tend to cost a pretty penny. I think I will mosey on down to the local SPCA this weekend and see what they have. Happy Nate Dogg!!!..haha. I defintely would want to get a kitten so that I can help develope its personality. Gotta get a male one…so it will be a true bachelor pad. Thanks for all the advice everyone.
pics of cats on the T website? what is this a fuckin gay pride parade??
If you really want to freak people out, go for a snake. ;p
Go fuck yourself Dave.
Personally I love my cat the little guy is great. He was abandoned at a young age (6 weeks) and my girlfriend brought him home so we adopted him.
I like cats because they’re independant, brash, condescending and so many other things. My cat has single pawedly rid our front yard of magpies. He’s the first cat I’ve ever met that would hunt magpies on a regular basis. Man for a couple of weeks he was coming home looking like he’d gone 10 rounds with Lennox Lewis then one day he comes home all beaten up with a dead magpie in his mouth. He was so proud of his accomplishment. . .
Anyway, I like the fact that he’s not always waiting on me, he does his thing and I do mine sometimes those work out together sometimes not.
Of course he does love going for walks. In case you didn’t guess he’s an outdoor cat but whenever I leave the house and go for a walk he’ll come with me, no leash or anything just walks along with me. . .
STU: “cat servant for 3 years and counting”
I was gonna say something dave876 but im gonna keep it to myself. But my cat has something to add. weoasblbksdfybo. Thats cat typing for fuck you.
I was never a cat person because the ones I had contact with clawed me when they decided they had enough petting. My rottweiler is afraid of cats to the point where he shakes and starts drooling because he has gotten his ass kicked by cats that he tried to befriend (intense sniffing and licking) in the past. My brother moved in a few months ago and he has a himalayan kitten, and it is the coolest animal I’ve ever seen. Totally changed my view on cats. The next step is figuring out how the two pets can live in harmony. Whenever we put them together, my dog goes into fight or flight mode and the cat just sits there and looks at him in amazement. I can tell she is thinking, “wow, what a big puss.”
Dogs are great, but if aren’t around much that would be a problem. You could fence in an area in your yard and put a little doggy door for it to go outside when you’re not around. Use baby gates to barricade the kitchen and put down newspapers, and there are people whom you can hire to walk your dog when you’re at work. There are also pet day care centers in most cities, and I actually know people who do this. I know it sounds ridiculous, but there are options.
Rotteiler puppies are the ultimate chick magnet, but if you’re going the cat route you can always get one from Animal Charities. If you have the means, himalayans are great: white fluffballs with a flat face and big blue eyes, mellow as hell. As soon as I fix my camera I’ll put up a pic so you can see what I’m talking about.
Dogs have owners. Cats have staff.

What Nate said!!! Rescue is the way to go, but if you need a pure bread animal, buy from a reputable breeder and do your homework. Over 2 million cats and dogs are euthenized in North America each and every year. It’s sad, but the majority of people on this planet are’nt responsible enough to have a pet.
Get a Main Coon - in fact, get two.
They come when they’re called, play fetch, run to the door when you get home and like to hang out with you. They are also quite often over 12 pounds so they are larger than a lot of ‘dogs’ out there. Make sure you invest in a laser pen too, beacuse you can entertain yourself and them for hours with one…
Cats are great, and when you go away for a weekend you can just leave some extra food out and you’re set.
Do not EVER get a cat declawed though, declawing is actually amputation of the last joint of each toe.
There are tons of cats in shelters, already fixed and litter trained. Many shelters have ‘buy one get one free’ cat deals, you’ll want two so they can keep each other company.
As for expense - I just finished paying over $600 in vet bills for a sick cat. No pet is cheap when they are ill, dog or cat.

Goldberg, I feel your pain about losing your cat.
This is Mordred and Ruby (see my post on the dog thread). He was the coolest, most annoying, awesome cat ever. He died at the age of two and a half of liver failure… three weeks ago.
He liked to play tag with my three year old neice, he’d come running when he heard you open the drawer with the laser pen in it, and he was always first to the door when I got home. We were woken up almost every night by him climbing on us, and if you didn’t make room on the pillow he’d paw your face. He kept me warm at night, and sat behind me at the computer while I worked and look over my shoulder to watch what I was doing. He caught a live bat in my apartment and brought it to me, still screaming. He would reach up your leg and paw at your hands to remind you to pet him. He also destroyed a lot of furniture and peed on my new hardwood floors. Take the good with the bad I guess!!
People who hate cats don’t know what they are missing. Cats are no less trainable than dogs, and my friend’s cat knows ‘sit’
You can get purebred cats from rescue if you are looking for a specific breed. Just take a look around the internet.
It is NEVER too late or early to spay or neuter your cat!!!

And this is Merlin
(6 year old maine coon mix)

and my little girl Faye.
Faye is the ‘all cat’ cat. She wil let you know when it is time to pet her, and you should feel honored when she graces you with her presence.

Ate many a cat while in Korea and dogs in Vietnam. I have no damn use for cats at all but are mighty tasty ![]()
